    Help with SE-L spec

I must admit that I fumbled with this until it worked. Try pressing the main beam switch again. There should be a spring loaded position which activates the system. When auto high beam is working, a light symbol comes up in the centre warning area. This is white on black and stays on even though the lights may have dipped automatically. (The blue main beam light goes on and off to indicate whether main beam is on or not). The bad news is that even when you get it working, you will still be flashed because the system is slower than you would be in dipping the lights manually. I gave up and switched it off in the end. If the system is working, it turns off main beam under 60kph. It will also turn off main beam where there are street lights even if you are travelling at more than 60kph.
  2. I do have ACC. The engine starts when the car in front moves off even if ACC is switched off. Perhaps it is a function of front assist?
  3. The tendency of the DSG box to be jerky in traffic is mentioned in reviews. I think it is possible to get smooth starts and I generally do but if I am trying to get away quickly and put more throttle on with the engine (auto) stopped, it will give a kick. It is very much like letting the clutch in too quickly on a manual which is probably more less what the DSG is doing.
  4. I have an Amundsen unit and use MP3 and MP4 files and it works fine. 32GB SD card although with only about 6 albums on it so far. If the SD card and USB drive work OK in your Fabia, I would go with a faulty unit
  5. I don't remember reading that in the manual but mine does it as well. Thanks for the tip about the steering wheel. I usually just lightly blip the throttle to start the engine ready to move. However, I have managed to stall it once doing that at a set of traffic lights. I still don't know what I did wrong but it was a real pain because the engine would only start again with the gearbox in park with the brake applied. If the engine is running, it easier to get a smooth start. I think the jerky start Is a feature of the DSG box - and happens with any engine. Some writers on other forums think the delay is longer with the auto hold feature in use although I haven't experienced that.
  6. It is worth experimenting with the mode. I used Sport mode on a run recently and it seemed to keep the revs in the 2000-3000 range (1.5 engine) compared with normal mode which kept the revs in the 1500 -2000 range on light throttle. We don't have many hills around here so I don't know how it will change performance on a hill but at least you would start with higher revs. Incidentally, at 60mph, sport mode does not select gear 7 but stays in 6.. My previous SEAT with the same DSG box would downshift to apply some engine braking if you braked on a downhill. It didn't seem to react to down gradients unless you also braked. I assume the settings on the Karoq are the same. You can also change to sport mode on the gearbox. To select sport, pull the gear lever back from the normal D position. However you select Sport mode, you have to do it every time after the ignition is switched off
  7. Light assist doesn't seem to come bundled with anything else - not even the driver assistance package which does include ACC, The Auto light assist claims to include dipping rear mirror and light and rain assist but, in the UK at least, these are standard on all models. I liked the idea of auto main beam but in practice, it seems a bit slow to react and you get flashed occasionally by the oncoming traffic - not helped because the Karoq LED headlights are so good.
  8. There is certainly resistance and it surprised me when I first encountered it. I have only experienced it when moving back from the overtaking lane when I think the system is a bit more cautious than I would be. I have learnt to deal with it and stay out a bit longer than I would have in the past.

    MPG

I am still quite disappointed with the fuel consumption of my 1.5 DSG but I have only done about 1200 miles so far. At the weekend, I went on a 70-80 mile trip which was mostly quite busy motorway. On the way out, I set the ACC to 72 mph and tried to keep moving as much as possible but the ACC kept applying the brakes whereas I would have coasted to slow down. The computer indicated 39.8mpg. On the way back, I decided on a different tactic. Set the ACC to 65 ad use the slow lane. I would only overtake if speed dropped below about 55. This reduced the amount of braking from the ACC and the computed show 46.9mpg at the end - a significant change (about 15%). It was a Sunday evening so fewer lorries around in the slow lane. Over the whole journey, I lost about 8 minutes compared to the TomTom calculated time for the journey so probably worth the trade off.

    Winter tyres

Hi Stefanos, What wheels were fitted originally 18inch or 19inch? I am thinking of doing this to soften and quieten the ride a bit. I think 16 inch have other advantages such as being cheaper tyres and being able to get snow chains although I don't need those.

    1.5TSI DSG MPG

The Eco light comes up on the dashboard. It could mean that the gearbox has gone into neutral as well apparently but that is unlikely as the engine revs are pretty constant.

    1.5TSI DSG MPG

I have a SEL 1.5 DSG which has done about 1100 miles so far. The long term figure is about 40mpg on the computer. I must admit to being a bit disappointed. I thought mine was improving but the most recent runs were below 40mpg and I cannot explain why. I am surprised that it does not go into economy mode more (when the ACT is operating). It only seems to do it in 30mph limit areas on the flat with no significant acceleration. I am sure that the demonstrator that I drove would go into economy mode at constant speeds higher than 30 but I suppose it might loosen up more with more miles. I haven't changed the mode setting. Perhaps it is time to play with it and try sport and eco.
  13. I think only in a Karoq with fixed seats. If you have Varioflex, the spare must be narrower (125?) space saver.
  14. There was no SIM in my car on delivery a couple of weeks ago. I was given and SD card marked Europe 1 - CW31/2018 in a sealed DVD style plastic box. It works in the satnav but I have just tried using the update portal to check if it is the latest and the portal faiIed.
  15. I suspect the hand of the accountants in this. It would increase the number of different parts and therefore costs. If it was a feature which didn't sell well on other models, they may have decided to drop it. It would also not work well with the seats moved forward or the backs not in the fully back position but that was almost certainly true for your Yeti well. It would be interesting to know if your dealer can get the parts to make it work.
  16. Yes, they do have one touch operation. Light touch for partial open close or press (pull up) to the stop for fully opening (closing). You may find it helpful to look at the manual on line. http://archive.skoda-auto.com/en/mini-apps/owners-manuals/karoq If the link does not work, Google will find it. The manual is good although sometimes you feel you need to have the car to understand what it means.
  17. This is an interesting topic for me as I am looking at the various spare tyre/rear seating combinations to buy a fitted boot mat - and discovering that they are not what I expected. Looking at the current specification booklet (September 2018), variable boot floor is not available with Varioflex seating which rules out the SEL. Likewise, the full size spare wheel option is only available on the SE (and not the SE Nav which also has fixed seating) and then not with 1.6tdi engine. The space saver tyre is about 90mm narrower than the full size so the boot floor is approx. 90mm lower. I was told that the boot floor in an SEL is the same height irrespective of whether you specify the space saver spare wheel or not. This may be to make production easier as the boot floor is longer front to back with Varioflex seating compared with fixed.

You have to go through the process of getting a quote on the phone. They not unreasonably want you to insure with them. I was very disappointed. I went through the whole thing and then nothing arrived to indicate that the car was insured - not to us nor the dealer. They had the correct email address as they sent me the customer service questionnaire! Fortunately, my existing insurer was happy to give me a free overlap. The registration process was done while we were with the salesman to collect the car. He had told us the registration beforehand to arrange the insurance. The transfer of our old car was also done on line while we were there and we given the acknowledgement that it had been done - a postal acknowledgement from the DVLA arrived about a week later. Our car arrived in the last week of September but we could not collect it until October. There was no pressure to register the car in September - probably that month had already been given up as lost cause for bonuses etc.
  19. Sounds like a problem unless you are driving in sport mode. Although I have only driven a few miles in my Karoq, I have driven a SEAT Leon with DQ200 for the last five years. Starting off on the level, it would change from 1st to second so quickly, you would hardly notice. My new Karoq may not be quite as fast to change up but the revs never exceed 2000 and I don't think they get that high. As suggested, it is dependent on how much throttle is used to take off. I have never used sport mode except by accident when the revs seemed really high before a change took place. Does the box stay in sport mode after the ignition is switched off?

Collected my car yesterday. Only driven it a few miles but really pleased with it so far. The salesman was talking about a new Skoda (most models) ordered now would be delivered in about 9 months. Admittedly, he wasn't expecting to sell me a new car so he didn't qualify that but it does seem in line with the other posts from people who have been enquiring about new cars recently. Looks like the only option for a quicker delivery is to take a stock vehicle.

    Delivery times

After being told on Tuesday that the car was in the UK, the dealer called yesterday (Thursday) to say that it had arrived with them that morning and would be ready to collect on Monday. As I have asked for a couple of extras to be fitted, collection is now arranged for Wednesday. The salesman was really surprised that the car turned up so quickly. He reckoned 2 weeks from the factory (possibly the airfield) to the dealer in Kings Lynn. It looks like deliveries are coming through quickly - possibly because there are still some VAG models that cannot be registered so there is more capacity in the distribution system to handle those cars that can be registered. I got the impression that several cars had arrived. There was no pressure to register it in September.

    Delivery times

I have today received an email from the dealer to say that my car is in the UK and should be ready to collect by mid October. Mine is 1.5DSG SEL in Candy White with spare wheel, assistance pack, and auto light assist added. I don't think anyone is going to be envious of the delivery time - it was ordered on 24 February - 7 months ago. I was beginning to think that it was going to set a UK record for delay. It will still be almost 8 months from order to delivery assuming the dealer is right. It should ensure that I do not have to MoT my current car.

    WLTP

I think the figures are NEDC calculated from the WLTP figures. There is an EU calculation to relate the two figures. The current engines on offer 1.0, 1.5 and 1.6D are not the same as those offered in MY18 (OPF on the petrols and Adblue on the diesel). I don't think it is permitted to use any other NEDC figure now. Whilst I can't guarantee what will happen to VED, The government appears to be fairly straight on VED. I still pay £30 per year VED for my current SEAT Leon which was registered before 1 April 2017. If it had been registered after 1 April 2017, I would be paying £140 pa. For Ajay24, he will be paying £140 per year (+any increase announced in the budget) as the annual VED is currently not related to emissions. The first registration tax is related to emissions but his car has already been registered so he has paid it already. Even the UK government rarely implements retrospective legislation.

    Model year 19

Thanks to Portman for posting the latest pricelist. The SE Nav is interesting - it only comes with 1.0l engine and the only version to come with 16 inch wheels.
  25. Which now seems to have been resolved. Latest specification and price list shows high functionality rear lights for all models.
