  1. Without looking it up probably in the top 3,4 sellers? Trek I think get used a lot as hire bikes? More Q's than answers 🙄
  2. Got some decent size patches about somewhere, just need to get some more glue, feel a bit more comfortable with it as its a sidewall. Gunk is either Stans or Muc off, not sure TBH from memory. There was still enough wet gunk in there so I think I was unlucky?
  3. first ride out with my usual Saturday group, i'd forgotten what is is like not going at your own pace you may notice i didnt finish at the start... go tubeless they said ...first puncture for a while which wouldnt re-seal, could see the goo coming from centre of tread but no joy. tyre off, valve out, throw in a tube, still nothing! so the mile walk of shame it was turns out the 'new' tube had a split and the tyre sidewall also was split, presumably pinched before i realised it was too flat to ride. so tube thrown away, patch wouldn't hold, and now need to try and patch the sidewall or just go back to tubed on the rear until i replace the tyres
  4. Short one today, under Layered so I got a touch wet and muddy. 🙄 Also made a new friend at the Coffee stop
  5. browsing DoneDeal last night...plenty of Road bikes, a distinct lack of MTB's? i'd have said the other way round TBH? there was a Commencal on there that looked OK, good upgrades, possibly too small?
  6. i think its one of these...2020 Talon 1 https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/talon-1-2020 Tektro are decent enough, the only weak point on it is the SRAM SX drivetrain....common issues are constantly needing tweaking to run right, general concensus is upgrade to NX
  7. for whatever reason it looks like i stopped posting mine so i'll start again... yesterdays...and i completed the Tissot 150 as well
  8. Good luck... Keep us up to date with it 🚴🚴🚴👍
  9. Nice ones.... I'm guessing they're not MTB rides 😀
  10. Another furlough day... another ride 👍
  11. Not too bad, not used anything other than Rapid Robs on the Felt which are a Summer gravel tyre or the Forekasters that came on the Whyte which are more aggressive than I've used. The Vittorias for me are OK for what I do, I really need to play with pressures more and on the Fox's
  12. not too bad, fairly standard kit for the price range, FSA cranks, WTB rims, Maxxis tyres and Shimano drive and brakes, 29 wheels roll really well. Front shock is probably lower end spec now but it is solo air so a bonus,100mm a touch skinny but again in this price bracket fairly normal, a lot are just coils. Bottom Bracket i think is threaded?, square taper, again old but perfectly capable, got it on my Felt and no issues Gearing is super low, 28t front, 52 t 'dinner plate' rear.....mine is 28 / 46 https://www.bikecalc.com/gear_ratios i think at 28/52 the 0.54 figure relates to 1x crank revolution = 0.54 revolution of rear wheel? as you'll find out, you may need to have alist of 3-4 bikes and it could be a case of which one you can find? second hand 'can' be a good way to stretch your budget but potentially spend money to replace parts that are nearing the end of their life not sure what Eire is like for bike prices/stock but UK has definitely gone C-19 'tax' crazy...my Whyte 801 has gone up by 20% in less than 2yrs
  13. Oops... Forgot to press resume for the drop and looooong climb to the café so the figures are all skewed. I'll take a look later and see if the climb is on Strava.(not Strava but Mapometer says around about .5 mile and 7-10% ) Probably missed 20 mins on the stats, from somewhere in the tree line on pic on RH side to where it was taken, first climb for a long time I've felt Lactic building up
  14. Part trend, part practicality... 2x or 3x front and whatever rear gives 21, 24, 27 but cross chaining means not all the range can be used. ie large front usually won't reach largest rear(s) and vice versa so you essentially lose them. Then when you're killing yourself up hill and need to change gears it's a juggling act to remember which side triggers go which way 😃 1x is less to think about and all can be used Less weight is a bonus, every gram counts, just remember at the end of a ride to put gear into lowest gear to prevent cable stretch, good practice anyway
  15. XC may be a tad aggressive thinking about it... A read for starters... should keep you in the good books with OH hopefully 😏 https://www.mbr.co.uk/buyers_guide/best-mountain-bikes-under-1000-394580
  16. For your riding I'd be going Hardtail, 120/140 mm front, (air if in budget) 1x front chain ring and personally Shimano over Sram but not a deal killer and everything else as good as you can get. A more upright position if possible, a lot of bikes now are low slung and slack geometry, probably XC or trail but different manufacturers have their own take on it You'll start with a budget..... and it will creep 😀 Full Sus heavier to lug up the hill and you'll forget to lockout the suspension both ends - you want all the leg effort to go forwards not push the suspension down. If you're looking at August I'd be looking and buying ASAP - over here stock is flying out the door
  17. Well done Mac. 🚴💪 Check settings on Strava or whatever app you use, there 'may' be an autopause setting ie drop below a certain speed and it kicks in?
  18. usually the limit screws to stop it falling off the cassette, also look at the B screw - keeps the top guide wheel close to the cassette. get yourself on the Tube of U and watch a few videos, Park tools are usually good but plenty on there https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+set+rear+derailleur&rlz=1C1FGUR_enGB869GB869&oq=how+to+set+rear&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0l8.10594j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  19. Furlough day ride.... Arse over tit as I crossed from road to trail.... Ditch full of leaves, not a flat surface 🤭
  20. A ride of 2 halves.... 2nd half in hail but just beat the snow as I got home Le Col challenge completed, 105mins left of Mammut to do
  21. A ride to beat the rain....
  22. Chillier than expected... Jacket on, keep the legs moving to keep 'em warm SunGod 200 completed...
  23. Stolen Goat, 400 mins 5th - 25th April, didn't join until middle of last week I think? Signed up for: Le Col level up,- 420 mins ending 9th May SunGod Breakaway 200 - 200 mins ending 5th May Mammut #dearmountain - 10 hrs ending 20th May
  24. A shorter one today to complete a Strava challenge, tried to keep to singletrack in the woods and in Chad's Ditch /Badger Hill area. Coffee stop at the same place as yesterday plus Squashed Fly biscuits. Good view of our local 'tump' to the Wrekin and Long Mynd on the edge of my route
