  1. Another plus for the Kia is that they still use a timimg chain so no worries about rubber timing belts breaking the downside is the engine is a bit noisier. Visibility is better in the Karoq due to the hatch back. Someone gave a plausible explanation for the stalling a while back suggesting that as the engine is so complex due to running on three cylinders when unloaded etc.that the manufacturing tolerances have to be spot on so if the odd car is slightly out of spec it could give rise to problems, that seems reasonable but not much consolation for maverick car owners.
  2. After 7 years and 41,000 miles I have sold my Karoq . Generally it has suited my needs quite well, being quite economical averaging around 40-45mpg. it has carried all sorts of bulky loads e.g. a very heavy log splitter and piles of logs but the one serious problem has precipitated the sale. Its intermiitent habit of stalling when entering a roundabout or dual caarriageway this has caused much irritation and has put me on several occasions in a dangerous position, what makes it worse is the VW refuse to acknowlege the problem that is rife on the internet across models using the 1.5 engine. The replacement a kia Xceed, that is not as large, the engine much simpler in its design and sold with a 7 year guarantee, Early days but I have found it rather rather more nippy than the Karoq with several nice improvements.
  3. Measuring the open circuit voltage of a battery alone can be misleading you need to measure its current capability under load. A quick test is to momentarily measure the current on the amps range (very momentarily) you should then be able to find the decent batteries.

Be aware that many owners have had a serious problem with the 1.5 engine where it stalls for no apparent reason, it can lead to a dangerous situation. It is unpredictable so most worrying. Others with the same engine have not experienced any problems. Look at posts on this Forum or other VW based Forums to see the magnitude of the problem.
  6. What is most concerning is that VW do not seem to acknowledge the problem when it has been reported right across their range for several years now. A previous post suggested that the complex nature of the engine could be the answer so that a slight maladjustment causes the stall. This could be why only some owners experience the problem. It has happened to me on several occasions but the worst aspect is that it is completely unpredictable so can give rise to frightenining scenarios. The Karoq will be my last VW group car.
  7. It could be the low temperature warning mine pops up at 4c

Yes, It sometimes requires a bit of patience when starting maybe two or three goes. But always seems to get there eventually
  9. Check that the wear sensor plug from the off side front pad is connected to the loom socket just above. It is not unknown for lazy mechanics to not bother connecting the wear indicator even to cutting it off from the pad. Usually this had no effect as the wear indicator in the pad needed to short circuit to indicate it had worn down. But with the Karok pad it is the opposite and goes open circuit when worn down so needs a short circuit to avoid an error message.
  10. THe wear indicator on my car is only on the off side front nothing on the rear.
  11. I have just changed the front disks and pads on my 2018 1.5 manual Karok. The off side caliper frame slipped and broke the plug/socket that connects to the wear indicator on the pads and indicated " check brake pads" on the infotainment screen. Contrary to my thinking the wear indicator on the pad is 0 ohms until worn and then would change to open circuit. I consider wear indicators a complete waste of time as if the pads are worn a virual check is all thats needed. As a consequence I short circuited the wear indicator wires in the socket and the error message has cleared. Perhaps the person who changed the brakes had similar misfortune!
  12. Many thanks. Thats one more job I can tackle.
  13. Can the Carista package release the rear brakes to change threm?
  14. My satnav failed some time back but I had some rain ingress at the same time due to an inadvertently open window. After several days drying things out the satnav returned and has been fine since.
  15. I simply removed the original battery in the car and replacedwith the new. Shut the doors and tried to reopen outside, never had a problem. My car is 2018 so the software could be different on yours.
  16. I have changed the batteries in the key fob probably 4 times over 6 years and like Rory have never had any problems they worked straight away without pairing
  17. My 2018 1.5 Manual Karok with 40,000 miles has been idle for 2 weeks due to a medical problem but when started yesterday the eror message " Engine is taking to much Power" appeared with a graphic of the engine. Presumably this refers to the battery being on its way out? Has anyone else experienced this?
  18. I think mine must be set for arctic areas!
  19. My Aircon is also completely silent probably becasuse it is not doing very much!
  20. Just like the heater the worst air con and heater I have experienced in 59 years of driving!
  21. Thanks for the tip but as we live some way from the main Skoda dealer it was easier and probably a lot cheaper to order one from eBay at less than £20. Coming from China so not a quick delivery but barring a catastrophe should be fine.
  22. Many thanks Mumpsim, I had no idea firms offered that service. Great Forum!!
  23. I have done a daft thing. After changeing a wheel I forgot to release the wheel unlocking socket and drove off. Is there anyway to find out the locking socket code. I looked at the original build spec online and it specifies lockable wheel nuts but does not give a code. I know they can be forcibly removed having had this done many years ago hopefully this will not be needed this time. Thanks for any advice.

Perhaps the software changed but but my 2018 1.5 SEL once selected stays in Sport mode all the time

£60! for a little more you could have a spare wheel. If your tyre is badly damaged no amount of gloop will seal it.
