On my car when entering Satnav you have a menu including a list of recent journeys, I just select one and it appears. I use it very frequently.
  2. I normally keep new cars for 8-10 years but am contemplating changing my 2019 15 SEL Manual Karoq with 25,000 miles on the clock. What sort of higher mileage have other owners acheived and what problems have they experienced? After having the engine software updated twice apart from trivial things like the key fob batteries it has been fault free. Perhaps I should keep it?
  3. Yes, before when leaving the car locked and maybe parked up for 10-14 days the battery voltage as measured on the auxiliary socket was always down to 11.4 volts. Leaving the car unlocked the voltage now stays 11.9-12 volts.
  4. Attempting to start the car this morning and had the message message "move key closer to the start switch" ( or similar). Moved the key adjacent to the starter and the same message appeared. Car would not start.. As I keep spare fob batteries in the car I changed the battery, same message appeared and car would not start. Checked the main car battery and 11.9 volts so no problem there. Decided to try and lock the car with the key fob, car locked instantly and then unlocked OK. Then again attempted to start the car and all as normal and car started. replaced the original battery and car starts as normal. I noticed that I had not closed the tail gate completely and now always leave the car unlocked as it saves the main car battery discharging. Perhaps the partially closed tail gate had upset the software somehow and locking/unlocking had reset things?
  5. I believe you can definitely exclude this abnormal tyre wear as being a characteristic of the car. I have recently changed my Summer front tyres at 23,000 miles (using winter tyres for half of this) and although very worn the wear was quite uniform across the tread. Maybe your Suspension set up is misaligned or the car has had a hefty bang at the wheels upsetting things?
  6. I was emphasising that car radios in particular are far more complex than they need be. In days gone by there was no need to take ones eyes off the road to change a station etc. There are far too many distractions in modern cars that could lead to accidents Yes SatNav is indeed very useful but a great deal of so called improvements are IMHO completely unnecessary: E.g. keyless entry Auto handbrake All add to considerable costs and potential expensive failures.
  7. +1 Life was much simpler years ago. A car radio then had two knobs one for on/off the other for tuning and some presets if you bought the delux version. Nowadays unless you read the manual little chance of getting anything at all - Its called progress!
  8. If your car has been standing for even a few days it is usual for the brake disks to have a thin covering of rust. Applying the brakes a few times usually clears it. Perhaps your MOT tester is commenting on rust other than on the disk faces? Whatever the outcome as Roottoot says the cost or replacing the disks and pads is not too high.

Thanks, I guessed that something similar was occuring.

Due to unforseen circumstances I ran the fuel down to an indicated 5 miles remaining . When rechecking the next day it indicated 0 miles range. To ensure I reached the filling station I topped up with 5 litres of fuel but the guage still registered 0 miles. The garage is about 6 miles away and the guage continued to register 0 miles until I filled up. It then reverted to the normal 445 miles range. I wonder how the guage measues fuel capacity?
  11. Has the switch any identification marks? It is probably a standard switch. £58 seems grossly excessive. If the switch is marked I can look into a possible source.

Roottoot, Yes it did but I noticed that the mpg very gradually improved as the mileage increased from 20 miles when collected.

I should add that the caris a 2018 SEL and has now covered 22,000 miles and fuel consumption improved after 10.000 miles.

Perhaps my journeys are atypical as the norm is at least 25 miles and more normally 70 over a mix of country roads and some dual carriageway. But it averages at around 43 mpg as indicated on the dash. I have tried all the Modes but find the difference in mpg with my style of driving varies little betwen Sport and ECO so I leave it permanently on Sport as the response is far quicker. If I take it steady i.e. keep to a max of 60 mph this can rise to an indicated 50+. Winter driving i.e. cold weather definitely less mpg but still 40+ during this past winter.
  15. An update. The car is a 2018 1.5 SEL bought in Jan 2019 pre registered with 10 miles on the clock . The car was manufactured September 2018 so sat idle at the dealers for about 4 months, it has covered 22,500 miles. Today I drove 70 miles to the East Coast and monitored the voltmeter plugged into the aux socket. Before start Voltage = 11.3 volts For 2 minutes after start the drive volts = 14.4 It then increased to 14.7 After 38 minutes it dropped to 13.3 on drive reverting to 14.7 on over-run At 50 minutes auto stop actuated Battery read 12.3 volts this fell to 12.1 after 2 minutes waiting On drive volts then = 13.7 on over run= 14.7 After 1 hour 35 minutes at jouneys end engine off and battery = 12.3 volts Return journey 6 hours later, before start battery volts=12.0 volts Drive volts = 12.4 After 3 minutes Drive volts = 12.7 After 30 minutes Drive volts varied from 12.7 - 13.0 Overrun alway 14.7 Journeys end after 1 hour 35 minutes ( 70 miles) Engine off battery volts = 12.1 On the over run or braking the volts always measured 14.7 with occasional peaks at 14.8 and 14.9
  16. I did check the charging voltage and after a few seconds it was at 14.8 volts. Unfortunately only a short run this morning so could not tell if it reduced later. I shall be driving to the East coast ( about 70 miles) later in the week so will take some more measurements then.
  17. Thanks, an Interesting analysis. This morning The voltage at the auxiliary socket was down to 11.4 volts but the car started immediately. A normal lead/acid battery wouldno doubt have failed if it dropped this low.
  18. Is the Karoq battery a standard Lead acid type or something designed to handle lower charge rates? On occasions when the car has been idle for a week or so if the voltage is measured at the auxiliary socket before starting it has been as low as 11.9 volts but has never failed to start. All journeys are usually at least 50 miles. Car 2018 SEL now 22k miles.

I have tried several Dashcams over the years and agree with above that Nextbase are first class.
  20. Reading the profits of doom on other sites I fully expected the fuel consumption to drop on my 2019 1.5 TSI, and was quite surprised that nothing seems to have changed and it averages overall about 42-43 mpg on the readout. I undersatand that in some countries petrol contains far more ethonol than in the UK ( E85) and as these engines are presumably designed to operate worldwide one would expext few problems with E10.
  21. Willie, have you any other interfaces ( connections) to your audio system apart from USB. PS. I was born in 1944 and have transferred all CDs to a memory card. Far more convenient than messing about with CDs in a car and quite acceptable quality. CD players also have to be pretty good at dealing with movement as it takes very little to cause the laser head to jump tracks.
  22. Is it legal to do that? My understanding is that the whole unit has to be designed for an LED bulb and have self levelling to be approved. It is certainly an MOT fail if an LED bulb is simply plugged into an Halogen lamp unit. The colour of the light will give the game away as will the brightness not to mention beam patter.
  23. Measuring open circuit voltage with a voltmeter can be misleading it is the batteries capacity to maintain a specified voltage while delivering current to the load that is important. If open circuit voltage drops much below 3.0 then the battery is most likely duff. You really need to measure the voltage with the battery in the fob, not straightforward.

Michelin Alpins. Look on the web scores or owners have experienced peripheral cracking.
