Advice please on purchasing a karoq
Modern cars have so many in my opinion unnecesary bells and whistles that to ad another in the form of ADBlue only increases the chance of a failure at some point. Whatever you decide remember that for car sales January-Februrary is probably the worst time of the year for dealers to off load cars and meet their sales targets it is essentially a buyers market so they are much more flexible, dont be afraid to push for a really good deal i.e extras such as paint protection new mats etc.

1.5 TSI engine cover
I always thought that engine covers were to deter DIY mechanics from fiddling with things!

Air con service after two years?
That is strange! The technician that re-charged my 2018 Karoq's air con said that the charging machine would tell him which refridgerent was installed and that it was the old type. So I am puzzled if it was not approved after 2011.

Air con service after two years?
My independent said that yes two types of refridgerant but apparently not interchangeable. My 2018 car had the older type so was less expensive. Even the newer refridgerent was much less than the main stealer though.

Air con service after two years?
For my 5 year old 30 k miles 1.5 Karoq the local Skoda dealer quoted £140 for air con service. Had it done at an independent for £80. I do not use air con very often but after 5 years it definitely needed doing, an instant improvement.

Space saver to the rescue!
One of these makes changing heavy wheels much easier. It works a treat on my Karok: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394298883870?chn=ps&_ul=GB&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1M54m9AV7SwWMqjOYgtTKVQ28&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=394298883870&targetid=1816181028659&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9046741&poi=&campaignid=19090194174&mkgroupid=147009364227&rlsatarget=pla-1816181028659&abcId=9303860&merchantid=7258114&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIr-_SmdHEgwMViYeDBx2YBQAXEAQYAiABEgIJX_D_BwE

Karoq 1.5 SE L cabin noise
Yes for the same speed under inflation would be noisier as there is more rubber contacting the road surface.
-
12v socket and dashcam power feed issue
My nextbase dashcam switches itself off when the car is not occupied, the current drain must be negligable as it has been connrected to the permanently live socket for 3 years now and has no effect on the car battery.

Karoq 1.5 SE L cabin noise
Yes I experience the same with both summer and winter tyres. On some road surfaces especially motorways it is like a low level drumming. My Octavia was much quieter.

MOT Advisory for all 4 tyres
As J R said above the tyre compound these days is made from all sorts of stuff. Our regular tyre fitter who has been in the trade for donkeys years said exactly the same when my Pyrelli snow tryes showed much worse cracks after little mileage, he added that the modern compounds these days are not a patch on the componds of yesteryear.

Excessive internal windscreen condensation
As rooted states you must have water in the car somewhere. We live on the Pennines where it is said that we enjoy 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad weather, this year has been extremely wet but our Karok parked on the drive has never suffered excessive condensation inside in 4 years

Bad braking shudder, likely front or rear?
If the Karoq disks are double sided i.e. vented in the middle it is quite common for the inner supporting ribs to rust away, you will then feel a disturbing pulsing of the brake pedal when braking.

Coming up to three year service
I have just had my 5 year old 30,000 miles petrol SEL serviced at the local main Skoda Dealers. I asked the Service Manager why their prices do not tally with the service charges advertised by Skoda UK as they are more expensive. I was told that dealers have the option to opt out of the recommended prices and that the family owned business did just that as sticking to Skoda's prices would lose them money. £475 to include oil change, spark plugs, pollen filter, air filter. Inspection etc. AsI am on the yearly schedule this is the first major service I have had.

Coming up to three year service
I am on the annual service schedule and until this year all services have been just an oil change/ inspection I expected the full service to be expensive but £475 still seems excessive.

Coming up to three year service
As an aside. The main Skoda agent charges £79 for a brake fluid change and a quote a few years ago was 150+ for the air con to be re-gassed. My local independent: £30 brake fluid change, £80 for the air con service. I get the main service items done at the Skoda agent but as the main service this time ( 5 years and 30,000 miles) is £475 I am wondering if I am paying too much for their significant overheads?

Not as responsive as Octavia
Interesting. By mistake lat week I filled up with BP Supreme or whatever the call their expensive brew and the car was noticably smoother and seemed to be more economical but not proven.

Start/Stop system no longer shuts engine off when stopping
Tom, Yes a manual, but no fault codes. Other than joining fast moving carriageways the stop/start system works OK when I forget to turn it off. I think the problem is that the system thinks I have stopped when I have only just paused for a micro second. Other than that the car has been trouble free for 28,000 miles over 4.5 years.

Start/Stop system no longer shuts engine off when stopping
Not so. While exiting the junction only pausing for an instant while checking that the coast is clear, set off and it then it decides to cut the engine thinking I have already stopped. it will then start instantly by the normal means but the short delay can be dangerous when trying to join a fast dual carriagway.

Start/Stop system no longer shuts engine off when stopping
The start/Stop system can sometimes be a danger. On more than one occasion when forgetting to switch it off I have been exiting a junction for the engine to suddenly cut leaving me stranded until I can restart the engine.

Karoq cam belt change - start saving now !
I agree with Toot, surely a cam belt is a service item albeit an expensive one. If the belt fails under 50,000 miles or 5 years and the car has always been serviced then you should have a claim under warranty but if it fails outside 50,000 or 5 years even if it has been serviced to the book then if the belt has not been changed I would not think you have a leg to stand on.

Vin plate
Many thanks Surrey John and Toots. I must get my eyes tested!

Vin plate
I am thinking of adding a tow bar to my 1.5 SEL car but cannot find any information on maximum towing weights etc. Can a kind soul tell me where the VIN or ident plate is. I have searched everywhere but cannot find it. The Vin number appears in a few places but that is all.
