I put some new Michelin winter tyres on the Karok last year and within a short time small cracks appeared on the outside edge more like rubber perishing. Apparently a common thing with these tyres. No cracking or perishing within the tread though. The MOT tester drew it to my attention but as said above not a fail. Its called progress!
  2. "Thanks for the info, maybe I should consider purchasing a more up-to-date car sometime soon...." I had a perfectly decent Octavia but changed to a Karok 2 years ago. I wish I had stayed with the Octavia the so called improvements outlined above and many more are IMHO completely unnecessary and can be a pain in the arse. Warning lights flash up for no apparent reason, blades of grass are detected as a hazard, keyless entry, electric handbrake, the battery is kept on low charge so that charging can occur on braking and the overrun. good for emissions but not so good for the life of the battery and much moe. All these complications are bound to mean more problems for cars that age, OK if you keep a car for 3 years or so not so good for those of us that prefer to buy ouright and keep for 10 years at least.
  3. On my car it gives a warning when you are about to ram the car in front up the backside.
  4. Enter Menu Select Vehicle Select Selection Select Driver Assistance. Simples!
  5. There are 2 software updates to cure ( in most cars) the kangarooing and second gear hesitancy, check whether they have been carried out.
  6. The first time my battery was about to fail a warning flashed up briefly on the screen to say so. The second time a few weeks ago no warning, the key fob would just not operate the locks. As I was at home the second fob opened the door. As said above it is wise to keep spare batteries in the car should the fob fail away from home as you can gain entry with the mechanical key. Worth practising with the mechanical key as it is a bit of a fiddle, the manual describes the method. Cars these days are getting too complicated just for the sake what is wrong with a conventional key and lock!
  7. My 2018 registered Karoq was on the 2 year service plan but after its first 2 year service I asked my local dealer to change it to yearly. As CJJE has said it is simply a software update. I presume you took it to a Skoda main dealer?
  8. Our son works in Engineering production and has said that most things are in short supply. Apparently during Covid manufacturers scaled right down as demand was very limited but since we came out of full lockdown there has been unprecedented demand for everything even Steel is in short supply. I have been waiting 3 months for an electric chain saw, the delivery date keeps slipping. So not just computer chips it seems delivery of many things are problematic.
  9. It would appear to be a bug in the system triggered by something external. In 2.3 years of ownership it has flashed up about 4 times briefly in all cases for no apparent reason so I took no notice. I am afraid it is just par for the course with these over clever cars, too many bells and whistles to fail sporadically or long term. I would change the Karoq for some other make but they all seem to be over burdened with questionable so called enhancements.
  10. The SKoda system is fine, it detected a punctured tyre before I had noticed. Why would anyone want a complicated expensive unreliable system? There are enough complications to fail already on modern cars why add to the list?

Whatever it is called it certainly stopped me hitting the rock. The sensitivity of Front assist can be set in the Menus. The handbook states that ESC has to be operative for these things to work.

Yes the system also checks the rear, While backing uphill along an unfamiliar narrow lane the brakes suddenly slammed on as I had not noticed a rock sticking out low down. It prevented a smashed rear end. Not a fan of all these bells and whistles as there is so much more to fail. I usually keep moderns for 10 years but not so sure with the Karoq with all the auto bits. www.bertram-hill.com

e-Roottoot is correct and Scot5 incorrect. My 2018 (2019 build) 1.5 Manual SEL suffered both the kangaroo effect and loss of power when approaching a roundabout and has had two software updates. It does now appear to be OK but in the colder weather did lose power rather suddenly on occasions. A difficult decision for you but if you read other Forum members experiences the 1.0 litre engine does appear to have far fewer problems. Several owners have rejected 1.5 early cars and whether you have a good car or a lemon appears to be a bit of a lottery. IMHO modern cars have far too many questionable bells and whistles: Electronic handbrake, keyless entry, emissions saving by keeping the battery charge low and charging when braking, auto braking when an obstacle is detected, auto lights, auto windscreen wipers etc. etc. If keeping the car for maybe 3 years under guarantee as many seem to do on these contract hire schemes these systems will probably be OK but the more complications the more chance of expensive failure. I seriously considered in February trading in my Karoq for a base model Octavia. I prefer Classic cars, simple, individual, easy to maintain and in many cases appreciate rather than depreciate.

Insects trapped inside cars have been known to trigger alarms, I have experienced that in the past only to find a butterfly flying around.
  15. Phutters is correct, I had a quote 2 years ago for fitting a tow bar to my 1.5SEL from the local main dealer it was nearly £1000. The main dealer assumed that it was for towing a caravan and the standard package included a retractable tow bar. Speaking with PF Jones they asked if the tow bar was for a caravan or just a small trailer as the cost differential is substantial, their quote then was around £400 for the simpler tow bar. Do not be tempted to take the car to a back street tow bar fitter, they are unlikely to have the necessary gear to alter the ECU coding and the job could end up a disaster. As Phutter says some main dealers just ship the job to a sub contractor and add a rake off, The Newcastle main agent does this but the Carlisle main dealer does it in house.
  16. In daylight not so obvious!
  17. Agree with Scot5, My Karoq has been parked over this winter for weeks on end but there is no sign of bad condensation and nothing that does not clear within a few miles of driving. I would definitely book it in for checking.
  18. I thought that the 2 LEDS were simply to let you know that the headlights were on, Perhaps I am wrong?
  19. I have several jacks but the one I use most as it is light and thus easy to carry around is this: Clarke CTJ1250AB 1.25 Tonne Aluminium Trolley Jack - Machine Mart - Machine Mart Not cheap but I have just changed the wheels on My Karoq from 18 to 17" and there was plenty of clearance. As said above, buy an ice hockey puck for a few £s it ensures you do not damage the jacking points and gives you an extra 1" or so.
  20. Perhaps different software updates for other engine versions. My 2019 build 1.5 has had 2 software updates and is now fault free and a pleasure to drive but I understand that some owners of earlier cars still have problems.

Thanks Kenny, there was no indication that the boot was open but that seems a logical explanation.
  22. Setting off this morning across Northumberland the temperature was -2 Centigrade. Initially all wipers were working but the washers were frozen solid. After a short while the rear wiper failed to wipe at all and I assumed that maybe its fuse had blown as this is not an uncommon fault if the wipers travel is restricted at all. On arriving at my destination some 1.6 hours later the rear wiper remained inoperative although it was free to move. No time to check the fuse . An hour later preparing to return home and thought I must check the wiper fuse but was surprised to see the wiper was now fully operational and the washers were also now active. Can anyone explain this?
  23. Good advice from Scot. In any legal dispute there is only one real winner, the lawyers. Whatever the outcome they cannot lose!
  24. Driving in reverse up a hill for 1/4 mile would be a real pain in the neck for me. ABS? Not really bothered what its name is, the electronic gizmos it certainly worked though. A neighbour who managed to put his LR Disco in the ditch was looking on in amazement.
  25. The front tyres on my 2WD SEL 1.5 manual Karoq do not inspire confidence,( Turanza and about 2mm tread) . So I set off this morning down the lane which was about 1 in 4 in places and sheet ice. I slithered down to the bottom and was glad to join the salted main A road. Before returning this PM my wife rang me to say that neighbours had been unable to climb the hill as it was still sheet ice. I decided to give it go as did not fancy humping some heavy shopping 1/4 mile uphill and to my complete surprise it sailed up. The ABS etc. was clicking away but I stuck it in third gear and it did not skid once. Really quite impressed. I did have a similar experience with my previous car a 2WD Octavia driving 200 miles up through a snow storm all the way from the Midlands to virtually untreated roads in Weardale etc. and was thinking of trading in the Karoq for another Octavia. On todays experience I will be hanging on the Karoq and get it shod with Michelin all season.
