  1. I got mine off ebay, pretty good https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Octavia-Car-Mats-2013-VRS-Icon-Logo/183967062685?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  2. A 95 compared to a 97 load rated tyre wont make much difference to the ride, but it might actually be cheaper. Higher sidewall tyres are generally a higher load rating than low profile anyway, as long as your tyres exceed the axle weight your vehicle can carry they will be legal and fine. I was just offering advice on something to consider when browsing tyre sites. Your tyre pressures will have far more effect on the ride than the load rating.
  3. It sounds good value until you see what the service involves. It's a pretty expensive oil and filter change really. You get the warranty cover, but it's really not good value. The problem is all the overheads the dealer has have to be paid by someone. The service manager and general manager couldn't possibly do without a flash car, holiday in the sun etc, the premises costs and taxation alone will be eye watering, then they have to pay the technician £40 and the materials £20 so it's never going to be great value. That's just life. I hate to say it but I'm probably going to have to pay them to do mine in December for the warrantee cover.
  4. If your considering doing this think about ordering extra load tyres, usually labeled XL. They will have a higher load index number which means a reinforced sidewall. They will resist damage from potholes and reduce body roll a tad - but can actually be cheaper than the std load equivalent.
  5. This sticker isn't visible when the visor is in the up position, you'd think it would be on both sides if it's so important. It's ugly and annoying, but then so is my mother in law and I have to put up with her.
  6. They can put clauses like that in if they want, but it's not going to be cut and dried getting the insurance Ombadsman to agree with them if they decline a claim. I have never activated traffic signal recognition, and only activated lane assist by mistake. Funnily enough I do manage to stay in my lane as do other drivers. I have a feeling we're heading to a stage where technology is going to make all the decisions for us and I'd rather just manage myself in a lot of instances.
  7. What did Sherlock say about when you've ruled out everything else ...
  8. I've bought a second hand set of wheels for the Octavia and also my last car a Saab 9-3 and had full winters. I fit them from start of Nov to March, I store them in the shed when not fitted. Winter tyres are cheaper than summer so doesn't cost as much as you might think, the winters are better in cold weather, not much though, but in snow they are 1000% better. Pity we don't get more snow.
  9. Superchips remap and a panel filter will take it just over 300, more than the FWD can properly handle even with a LSD. Or maybe I need better tyres and its just me. Still on the factory fit tyres and the tyre noise is the worst thing about this car, on a rough surface its loud.
  10. I did mine a year ago, posted 28 sept 2019 here
  11. I changed my oil with a 5ltr Manol and a Bosch filter for about £30 then reset it. the sump plug is plastic, the filter is super accessible, very easy DIY job.
  12. Nice job, a bit of rust on the inside of mine. Thinking of a bit of silver Hammerite inside them. Emu?
  13. Go onto the wheelbase website and put your make & model in, it'll suggest all the sizes you can use.
  14. If its just to keep the sun off kids get a stick on sunshade. Modern cars have less glass and more of a tint than years ago. Personally I like the look of tinted glass, but not to the extent it obscures the drivers view.
  15. Very nice, in fact too nice for an oil burner.
  16. A difficult one for me this, because I would be very reluctant to pay anything like main dealer charges, but equally I don't think a one-size-fits-all oil is likely to be much good. I'd go and have a chat with the guys, explain your a bit worried and if the oil they use isn't to spec ask if you can provide your own. I do believe oil and filter changes do more for engine life and reliability than just about anything else maintenance wise.
  17. Different car altogether I know, but my Saab did this a few times and it was a result of low battery voltage. I had noticed the car cranking more slowly but it still started every time. Once the battery was changed it never happened again. Son in law has the car now, it's still ok. Annoyingly it used to drop the windows and / or open the boot. I thought it was something complex.
  18. Dave, this looks fabulous. When can you do mine?
  19. Thanks. I might have a go with my old 2018 card now I have the 2020 to fall back on, I didn't fancy risking cocking up my only card so I got a spare (spec as above) and tested it works.
  20. My Nav shows the following: 5L0051236BJ 1310 ECA AS 2020 SHIELD: SHIELD 2016-44 (build 309) Anyone know if that is the latest? I'm hoping the 2020 is a clue ... But I am however pretty clueless. Thanks
  21. Very good price, where was that done please Martin?
  22. Ive had a few bits, gas struts for the bonnet, battery cover and lock covers. Spot on.
  23. Hi and welcome, sounds like a good buy. Any little improvements planned? New mats and mudflaps is my usual starting point
  24. Hi, Wonder if anyone has any knowledge or experience with this one ... I have a Dec 2018 VRS Octavia purchased used, but previous owner has paid for (or got free) Skoda connect - but never bothered registering for it. I have downloaded the phone app and set it up (on my laptop), got the code they sent, put it in with Vin no etc and its all recognised and registered. I selected a Skoda service partner and this was accepted. However to use some of the features (Such as remote access or honk and flash) it doesn't work - on the phone it just says error so I tried on laptop. A little balloon pops up saying "Unverified". I clicked on it and it says to use these features you have to be verified with your service partner please call in. So I did. And guess what? They know nothing about it. After asking person after person they were referred to a new car salesman who said " Oh yeah they said something about this on the training, I think we have to activate it" He suggested the young lad on the parts and service rings Skoda UK and finds out about it. So I guess nobody else has done it with a car from that main dealer, and to be honest my limited dealings with them so far don't fill me with any confidence. Anyone help? Failing this I'll ring Skoda UK myself, but we could do with some info on here to help anyone with the same sort of problem. Thanks.
