  3. In the Skoda online parts catalogue, I can't see any front springs with either 3 pink dots and 1 red dot, or 3 red dots. Are these two front springs what was on the car when you bought it? eg. they're not KYB springs. Do you mean Bilstein B3 or Bilstein B4 shocks? I didn't think Bilstein did B3 shocks only B3 springs.

In these cases 14" wheels will fit. However, it's easy to check whether the front discs are either 256mm diameter or 288mm diameter by taking a rough measurement. There's no need to check the diameter of the rear discs, because they are never bigger than the front discs. 6. What width are the rims? and what offset are the rims? For example, 6Jx15 ET38 would mean that the rim is 6" wide and the offset is 38mm. These details will be cast into the back of the alloy rim. Are they aftermarket rims or VW group rims? ie. VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat. If they are VW group rims, what is the OEM number? This number will also be cast into the back of the rim. What load index and speed index are the tyres? eg. 205/50R15 86H would mean that the load index is 86 and the speed index is H. Do the rims have a 5/100 PCD? and do the rims have a 57.1mm centre bore? ie. are they physically capable of being bolted onto the Fabia.
  7. Scroll down to see a photo of a Jaguar XF that found a ditch today. 255 summer tyres don't have much grip in the winter. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-55660232
  8. If previous years are anything to go by, I expect Skoda will fit bigger tyres to the MK4 Octavia Scout. Perhaps 215/55R17 on 7Jx17 ET45 rims from the Karoq, even though 215/60R16 on 6Jx16 ET43 rims would be more comfortable and protect the rims better from kerbing damage. Getting that wow factor in the showroom is more important for sales than functionality.
  9. With 4WD you don't need 225/45R18 tyres to power quickly out of corners. 205/55R17 will be more than enough grip. The original Mazda MX5 only had 185/60R14 tyres. The reason being that Mazda felt the narrower tyres provided the driver with a more entertaining car. In the 1980s, cars would often only have 155/80 tyres if they didn't have power steering. These narrow tyres would make the steering lighter at low speeds.
  10. The VW Polo and Seat Ibiza are a later generation to the Skoda Rapid, and hence have slightly bigger outside diameter tyres. 185/65R15 and 195/55R16 are about the same outside diameter and are about as big as you can fit to your car. The narrower 185/65R15 is unlikely to rub. I would guess the 195/55R16 could rub if you fitted it to a 7Jx16 ET46 rim, but anything between 5.5J and 6.5J with an offset between ET35 and ET42 should be ok. 185/65R15 is a noticeably more comfortable size than the 195/55R16 and is also a lot cheaper. 185/65R15 fitted to a 5.5J rim will be more comfortable than fitting it to a 6J rim. You might also want to consider 195/60R15 fitted to a 5.5Jx15 ET40 rim. 195/60R15 has a slightly smaller outside diameter than 185/65R15 so will be closer to the standard tyre sizes on your car. It's normal for front wheel drive cars to wear the front tyres out twice as quickly as the rear tyres. 11. As your wife has a bad back, I would suggest looking at 15" or 16" wheels, not 17" or 18" wheels. Tyre reviews tend to be focused on young men driving fast around a race track. I watched one tyre review recently, and they were comparing low profile 17", 18", and 19" tyres and talking about which was best for ride comfort. Yet the race track that they were driving around didn't have any bumps and certainly no potholes. So even the super low profile 19" tyre would have given a smooth ride. Using 195/65R15 or non-standard 205/55R16 tyres (instead of 205/60R16) will save you money in the long run as these are much less expensive than the other sizes such as 205/60R16, 205/55R17, and 215/45R18. For best performance (especially in the winter), it's best to change tyres before they have less than 4mm of tread depth remaining. So again, choosing a low cost tyre size is especially useful. Black Nanuq Alloy Rim 6Jx16 ET35 (weighs 9.4kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-nanuq-16-pro-scala-kamiq/p/654071496C+FL8 Silver Nanuq Alloy Rim 6Jx16 ET35 (weighs 9.4kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-nanuq-16-pro-scala-kamiq/p/654071496B+8Z8 Steel Rim 6Jx16 ET35 (weighs 7.4kg) https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/plechovy-disk-16-/p/2Q0601027H+03C Notice that the 16" steel rim weighs about 2kg less than the heavy alloy rims. So for best performance, choose steel rims. It's also quite useful to see what size the spare wheel will be. If you zoom in to the photo in the below link, you can see that the Kamiq might use a 205/55R16 size spare tyre. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/sada-pro-kompletni-rezervni-kolo-pro-kamiq/p/658093860 The standard 16" alloy rims for the Kamiq use either ET35 or ET38 offsets, whereas the standard 16" steel rims for the Kamiq use either ET35 or ET40 offsets. So if you wanted four alloy rims and a steel spare, a good idea would be to use the ET35 offset for both the 16" alloy rims and the 16" steel rim. This way, all the rims will have the same specification. 12. It should be correct, as you gave the seller your reg number.
  13. What OEM part number is your front shock absorber? There are two different strut outside diameters used on the Octavia MK3, 50mm and 55mm. Are you sure you have purchased the correct one? See the below links for all the potential OEM numbers that the shock absorber might be. Notice that the PR codes are listed against each OEM number to help identify what the car came with out of the factory. http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2016/drive_standart/753/hg_ug/411/subcategory/411000/part_id/2561497/lang/e http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2016/drive_standart/753/hg_ug/411/subcategory/411001/part_id/2561497/lang/e http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2016/drive_standart/753/hg_ug/411/subcategory/411002/part_id/2561497/lang/e
  14. Go onto the skoda website and configure the car yourself. 131g/km to 150g/km is in the £215 first year tax bracket. 151g/km to 170g/km is in the £540 first year tax bracket. The Superb estate 2.0TDI 200PS begins at 144g/km. The 144g/km figure will increase depending what options you choose. 19" rims add about 3g/km so don't choose that option. Spare wheel adds about 1g/km so do choose that option. Make sure the final selection of options doesn't push the emissions to over 150g/km. Make sure the dealer puts it in writing what emissions the car will be registered with. The will give you the option of rejecting the car if it is over 150g/km emissions and in the higher tax bracket. You might want to check what size tyre and rim the spare wheel will be. I've seen on a CZ site that it is 205/55R16 fitted to a 6.5Jx16 ET46 steel rim. If this is true, then this tyre and rim offset is non-standard. The standard 16" tyre and rim size is 215/60R16 fitted to a 6.5Jx16 ET41 rim. However, I've read that the 215 tyre is too wide to fit in the boot, so maybe this is correct. It's a bit strange, that Skoda don't make the wheel well big enough to fit even the standard 215/60R16 tyre fitted to the standard 6.5Jx16 ET41 rim.
  15. It sounds like you have 17" or larger rims, as 16" rims with standard 205/55R16 tyres would give a comfortable ride. One rim size is a wide 7Jx16 ET45, and the other rim size is a narrow 6Jx16 ET50. With 205/55R16 tyres, the narrower 6J rim will give a better ride than the wider 7J rim.
  16. I can only see one OEM part number for the Octavia MK1 front wishbone. Front wishbone OEM number 1J0407151C http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/parts_lst/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2002/hg/4/catalog/sk/drive_standart/252/lang/e SKF wishbone with left ball joint https://www.autodoc.co.uk/skf/14546157 SKF wishbone with right ball joint https://www.autodoc.co.uk/skf/14546158 The wishbone is not handed so the same wishbone will fit on the left side and the right side. However, the ball joint that is bolted to the wishbone is handed, as there is a left ball joint and a right ball joint.
  17. An ebay seller has confirmed to me that L8Z8 and 8Z8 are the same colour.
  18. I don't know if you would notice the difference, but Michelin's noise meter would. The Michelin Primacy 4's in size 185/60R15 have rim protection which makes the ride harder. Michelin Primacy 4 in size 185/60R15 shown with rim protection https://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=110&rsmFahrzeugart=ALL&pdp_alt=2&suchen=Search+for+tyres&live_chat=125&m_s=3&cart_id=tReyWyZog6djv4rq.110.732291735&sowigan=So&Breite=185&Quer=60&S_Z=&Felge=15&Speed=&Load=&Marke=Michelin&kategorie=6&filter_preis_von=&filter_preis_bis=&homologation=
  19. These are summer tyres. They don't work as well as all-season or winter tyres below 7 degrees centigrade. If you like Michelin tyres, maybe look at Michelin's all-season CrossClimate+ or Michelin's winter Alpin 6. I would go for 84T or 84H. However, sometimes Michelin only offers XL in certain models and sizes, so you won't always have a choice other than going to another make. 185/60R15 has a good amount of sidewall height so isn't so prone to being damaged by potholes as lower profile tyres. If a nail was to puncture a 84H it would also puncture a 88H XL. If your roads are very bad, you might want to look at 175/70R14 tyres fitted to 5Jx14 ET35 rims. These will only fit the Fabia if the front discs are no bigger than 256mm outside diameter. 288mm outside diameter front discs need at least 15" rims. Non-standard oversize 185/65R15 is also an option as the sidewall height is 9.25mm more than the standard 185/60R15. 185/65R15 is a cheaper size than 185/60R15 and more comfortable and better at absorbing potholes due to the bigger sidewalls.
  20. 8Z8 is a common paint code for VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda group alloy rims. I've seen it listed for OEM alloy rims on the Octavia MK3 and MK4 cars but not on earlier Octavia models. L8Z8 might be the same colour as 8Z8, but I'm not sure. It might be worth searching for that paint code as well and then asking the seller if it is the same as 8Z8.
  21. The paint code is 8Z8 which is diamond silver. There's a German seller on ebay who sells touch up paint, clear vanish, and spray cans. https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/guujashop?_bkw=8Z8&_sop=15&rt=nc Here's a cheaper option, but it's only for 15ml. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Touch-Up-Paint-SKODA-WHEEL-COLOUR-BRILLIANT-SILVER-Code-8Z8/191804874182?hash=item2ca8761dc6:g:gNIAAOSwkDtcWLOi There's lots of other options on ebay.
  22. Octavia MK3 6.5Jx16 ET46 Steel Rim Weight is 7.6kg https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/plechovy-disk-16-/p/5Q0601027BQ03C Octavia MK3 6.5Jx16 ET46 Alloy Rim Weight is 9.5kg https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-velorum-16-pro-octavia-iii-octavia-iv/p/5E3071496++FL8 As you can see from the above links, the "light" alloy rim is actually much heavier than the steel rim. Most alloy rims are made out of cast aluminium, which is a far weaker material than steel. Cast alloy rims are very cheap to make, so there's a lot of profit for the sellers. Hence all the false information about alloy rims being light. It's possible to make alloy rims lighter than steel, but that involves using materials such as forged aluminium. Expensive cars such as Porsches and Ferraris will often use forged aluminium for their rims and never cast aluminium.
  23. What is the OEM number of the rim, and what colour is it? For example, if it was a 6.5Jx16 ET46 rim it might have one of the following OEM numbers? 5E0601025B 8Z8 5E0601025C 8Z8 5E0601025H 8Z8 Notice, that the above three OEM numbers all have the same 8Z8 paint code, which is diamond silver. 25. The reason that you may be less than impressed with the ride of 205/60R16 tyres fitted to 7Jx16 ET45 rims, is because a 7J is wide for a 205/60 tyre as it stretches the sidewalls which causes the tyre to flex less easily and therefore transmit more of the road bumps to the occupants. 7J is wide even for a 225/60R16 tyre. However, for comfort it's better to fit a 225/60 than a 205/60 to a 7J rim. Notice that the Yeti MK2 (aka Karoq) has replaced the 7Jx16 ET45 rim with a much narrower 6Jx16 ET43 rim, even though it uses the same 215/60R16 (or 225/16R16 in the case of the Karoq 4x4) tyre size.
