  1. You don't NEED to remove the wipers - I didn't - but it would be a lot easier to get the filter housing out, and the battery too, if you do. Otherwise it is real pain. The filter housing is a very tight fiddly and awkward thing to remove and replace without removing the plastic scuttle cover thing (which needs the wipers to be removed first), and in the temperature at this time of year is more likely to fracture(not good!). The battery is heavy and a tight fit as well - so temporary use of a second pair of hands is useful in avoiding a trip to the osteopath. And the battery needs to come out to get to the bungs... I think there's three nuts/bolts holding the housing in place. Don't fully undo the outside rear one - this will make it easier to put back together. Unless you've got tiny fingers. Or (presumably) you remove the wipers and the scuttle thingy. cheers
  2. No - there's no 3D mode. Like the majority of in-car systems, it was not as advanced as many of its contemporary stand-alone units when it was new. And the design is now some years old.
  3. 4 keys? I thought they came with 3. Though I may well be wrong... If you go for it, I hope it doesn't disappoint. cheers
  4. Water leakage may not be unusual, but I'm not sure water on the floor is either that normal or nothing to be worried about... Have you checked/modified the pollen filter housing? edit: - just thought, by 'floor' do you mean the floor of the car, or the ground? If ground, then everything is indeed normal and nothing to worry about
  5. something you might want to look for when comparing different cars - folding rear seat. Didn't come in until the 2005 model year. It doesn't fold completely flat but makes a big difference to practicality. The Elegance has the best spec (other than the L&K but doubt you'd get one of them in budget, and the difference isn't that great really)cruise, climate control, at least partial leather, heated seats, folding mirrors etc OEM SatNav looks good but is not the most user-friendly system and doesn't do full postcodes; and new CDs (not DVDs) are expensive at around £120 - or can update with one a couple of years old from ebay for £40-£50 or so. I believe there is an aftermarket double DIN unit available - but not cheap and probably doesn't work with steering wheel controls etc good hunting
  6. I think heated seats in the UK are only available with leather upholstery. Do you know where we can get schematics like this with the text in English? cheers
  7. I've had this too. But fortunately it was under warranty so they just replaced the whole unit (of course!)and it's been fine for over three years now. Sorry, don't know what the fault was - which makes this a pretty pointless post I guess
  8. In the short term at least, you could just unplug the multi-plug within the rubber bellows between the hinges. This will turn off the central locking to that door - but also the power to the window and the door illumination. (And possibly to the mirror as well?). But at least the door will not make a prisoner of your fares!
  9. a kit for fitting the item to a car that is not built with the item at the factory and - posted at 4:02? do you never sleep?
  10. Are you sure they used to move when you turned them on? Mine only move if they are turned on immediately after turning on the ignition. If the headlights are turned on when the car is being driven, they just come on without moving up and down...
  11. at the end of the day - you pays your money and takes your chance. But I wouldn't let you pay with my money. Make sure you have read ALL the appropriate threads on here - there are one or two that specifically cover the [non]ability to predict which 2.0PD engines are likely to be affected, and which might not (and not just in the Superb). I'm not aware there is a reliable replacement, unless you can get the bit fabricated yourself as i think someone on here alluded to.
  12. 2.0PD - "at ALL COSTS - DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!" ...just in case you missed it the first time!
  13. The heated seats will work with or without anyone sitting there. The seat belt light does not stay on after the 7 bings, even if the driver's seat belt is not fastened. Sorry, I don't know where the fault is - maybe each seat has a separate fuse? (doubt it)What about the connection under the seat? (though be careful not to play with the airbag one)
  14. On the Elegance model, from under the bonnet you can see some wires attached to the nozzle - presumably for heating elements. Anyone know how to get these working? (They've frozen in the past, so I guess they're not already live) cheers
  15. Welcome... I'm sure you'll love the car - but have a good look on this forum to find a few things to look out for and to do, to make sure you continue to enjoy it (start with a search for 'pollen filter' or plenum chamber'...) cheers
  16. try here for a profile converter http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html
  17. Does it look the same size? ...yes :'( :'(
  18. I had a Mk3 Cortina too (hasn't everyone?) - Not sure if it's my memory or not, but I can remember a gallon of 4-star tipping over a price watershed around 1981 - was it really the £1 mark? (That's about 22p per litre!)
  19. I'm glad everyone seems to like it - cos I've got one too Only thing is, I got the genuine Skoda item about 4 years ago - I think it was about £50 :'(
  20. wouldn't think an insurer would be interested - unless it was a modification to improve performance. And, like a re-map, how would it ever be identified - not the same as it used to be a few decades ago when SU carbs were swapped for twin Webers!
  21. thanx for that - very helpful - there's one on ebay at the moment (with a BIN of £250!)
  22. You've got me confused here - the only 'off' on the face of the left hand stalk on my car is to turn off the cruise control...
  23. Embarrasingly I've never heard of a phatnoise box (it's an age thing, confirmed by my opinion of the CDs you had in your boot ). Reading your post it looks like a good idea though - the unreliability of the CD changer is tiring to say the least. So, where do I get one? How much? what else will I need? Will they all fit so well, as yours did? etc cheers
  24. I know how to alter the frequency of the intermittent wipe, by adjusting the little lever on top of the wiper control stalk. But is it possible, via VagCom etc, to alter the sensitivity of the rain sensor on the windscreen that is allocated to each position of this little lever? For five years I’ve had this set to the least sensitive position, for the slowest intermittent wipe. Think I may have used the second position once or twice only. The other positions effectively have the wipers on constantly whatever the rainfall, so are a waste of time. I’d really like to do this if possible – so that a typical intermittent wipe would be set by using one of the central positions. cheers
