  1. If your expansion tank doesn't have "mit silikat", you probably don't have the bag in coolant problem. Meaning that your heaters have a different issue. What happens if you put them on full heat "Hi", and "sync" the temp?
  2. I've had a small size Disklok on my BMW 5 series which is now transferred to the VRS 230. It is indeed, a very good visual deterrent.
  3. So, I called my local Skoda dealer parts department on Monday as I had to pick up a couple of things, and I enquired about the cost of this storage shelf (the actually call it a 'storage bag/ multifunction box'). It was £65. "I'll treat myself!" I thought, and ordered it. Picked it up today, and it is really useful. The compartments are deeper than I expected and are a good size. I must admit, the instructions are useless, they describe something, that IMO cannot be done, at least not on my model. However the shelf sits secure, is hidden under the parcel shelf and great for storage. Overall, I am very pleased.

  5. Thank you so much Gaz, your encouragement and advice helped me to remove the silica bag from the Coolant Reservoir. I'm now thankfully clear of this 'ticking time bomb'. Mit Silikat? - nicht jetzt!
  6. "Not enough issues to warrant a recall"? That's a joke! This issue exists across VW, Audi, Skoda & Seat, and they say there are not enough issues. Such nonsense.
  7. Mine is the single walled version. I can feel the teabag and move it around, but not able to prise it out. I guess I'm also worried about damaging it.
  8. Just went to have a look at the expansion tank in my 2016 VRS, and sure enough, the tea bag is present. I've tried to fish it out, but had no joy; does anyone have any tips?
  9. I'm not sure about Petrol models being quieter than Diesels! My petrol VRS still has cabin boom, and road noise, so the vehicles could definitely benefit from some more insulation!
  10. So now knowing this, I have 2 questions: 1. How do I know if my Octavia has a silica bag in the coolant reservoir? 2. If there is one, can it be removed and then just change coolant yearly/ with oil change? Thanks
  11. Thanks for this. I hadn't realised that Skoda call them 'parking lights'. I prefer not to leave the switch on 'Auto' as it sometimes brings on the lights on sooner than I would prefer. Are the 'parking lights' the same as the 'Daytime running lights'? It looks as if both are the same LED strip?
  12. Whilst having just the 'side lights' on of the car, I've noticed that the speedo doesn't light up; just the needles do. Is there a way to illuminate the speedo whilst driving with just the side lights on. Thanks.
  13. Pardon my ignorance, but doesn't a 'Coolant Flush' involve forcing several litres of cleaner, water and new antifreeze through the system to get rid of all the old antifreeze and the contaminants that may have built up? Why on earth would this cost £850?
  14. Thanks for your reply. An update from my last post on this thread is that I actually purchased an Octavia VRS 230 a few weeks ago. I would say that compared to the BMW, there is no comparison on refinement. The materials used in the Skoda are obviously cheaper, the sound insulation is extremely poor and the car as a whole feels much 'lighter', and less 'solid'. However, to put things into perspective with regards to my BMW ownership, I had the car for almost 7 years. For the first 14 months, everything was fine. Then things started to break down. Immediately 2 injectors needed replacing along with other parts. The car became non-driveable. And his continued every year. Every time something would go wrong, I would get it fixed, and a year later, something else would go wrong. To the extent that last year the ECU short circuited and needed replacing. In 7 years of ownership, I have spent in the region of £10,000 on repairs at an independent garage that has very reasonable rates, (it's the cost of the parts which is eye watering). When purchased, the car had done 72k miles, and has now reached 85k miles, so I have driven around 13k miles in 7 years. I was warned a few months ago by my indy that pretty soon, the injectors would need replacing again (yes, all 6 of them). Thankfully I was able to part exchange the car when purchasing the VRS. I have realised that with Skoda, the quality and refinement will never be the same as the BMW. However it's fun to drive, the leather seats are comfortable, and I'm sure I will get used to the noise. I have already started modifying, and have a whole list of mods that I want to make. I also realise that Skoda's don't hold their re-sale value as much as some of the other marques. But it has more power than my BMW, and is cheaper to insure, and cheaper to tax. When things do go wrong, as they do with every vehicle, I'm hoping the parts will be cheaper to purchase than BMW parts, which will be better for my pocket.
  15. The button bar in front of the gearstick has 10 buttons. Yet, the only actual buttons are: Central Locking System Start Stop ESC Parking Aid Park Assist VRS Mode The others are blank. Although I understand that the following may be available on some vehicles: Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and Traction Control. That still only equals 8 buttons. Why the extra 2?
  16. That would make sense of why mine came with a Yuasa. Thanks. That 'Start/Stop' is the first thing I turn off too, I hate it, wish I could disable it permanently (or at least through Amundsen).
  17. How do you check this? The method for holding down the 'reset' button under the maxidot doesn't seem to work on my car. It allows me to reset the oil service etc, but the battery doesn't even come up in the display?
  18. Changing the front grill is something I would love to do. I'm a little concerned that the size of the 'honeycombs' may let in small stones whilst driving. I guess because the same thing happened to my BMW 5 Series resulting in requiring a new AC compressor. Should I be worried?   19. Does your owners manual not have a sticker on the inside of the front cover?
  20. I thought it was the reverse, and the hatch would close too tightly. Try loosening the bump stops slightly, it's worked for others on O3, but not for me unfortunately.
  21. 2 weeks of ownership of my preFL VRS230, and I can't seem to get rid of the boom. Have adjusted the hatch bump stops, but not sure it's made much of a difference. I was hoping I'd get used to it, but it's becoming unbearable, even for passengers. Not sure a resolve has achieved in these 60 pages of thread?

  24. I won't be using a Skoda dealer for future work, so I have purchased a service book from eBay. A print out of previous service history should be adequate for any future sales etc
