RickyUM I am currently on Navigation 21.7 and my 1st year of ownership ended in Oct 21. I do not appear to be receiving further online updates. My car has recently gone in for a ‘major’ series of software updates but the Navigation does not appear to have been updated. So it seems the same position applies in the U.K. as in Germany in that: USB C doesn’t work; you can get your Service Partner to do it - at an extra charge - following first year of ownership…..and that only if a data plan is purchased following year 1 does Navigation continue to receive further automatic online updates.

After reading in the online ‘shop’ that after Year 1, in the U.K., further map updates continue to be automatic but only with a data plan - I read somewhere on this site that Map updates via USB C are possible for cars bought in EU states. Hope you have success, let us know.

No head unit replacement but a long awaited SW fix that incorporated 3 updates over 2 days.

I am similarly unsure but it appears that after Year 1 I will only receive Maps updates if I I have a data plan with Cubic the data provider. This requires a data contract. If I do not sign up and I haven’t, then I will not receive further Maps updates. Please correct me if I am mistaken. My Navigation was beset by faults and a poorly performing voice assistant during year one. I was unable to use it effectively. It seems unfair that after patiently waiting 20 months for a software fix I now have a functional Navigation and Voice Assistant but my Maps data base is out of date so that once again my Navigation is ‘sub-optimal’ through no fault of mine.

My Navigation Database is 21.7 whilst my Software has gone from 1688 to 1896.

Mine is now also 1896 - navigation is 21.7 (so perhaps more to come). I can also say that everything is now working as it should. 👍

SOS Error Message
If it is definitely a persistent fault then annoying as that is, especially with fuel being really expensive just now, then you have little other choice. The sole self-help action that I have taken after a few false SOS activations - that has helped is….decide if your battery may have become weakened by the recent cold weather. If so - and this has worked for me - then give the battery a full charge on a Smart-Charger overnight. On the occasions when I have had SOS faults, this has worked. Milder weather is here now though so maybe this will sort it out. I do feel that with these complicated systems even marginally impaired voltage can cause sensors of all kinds to falsely activate. However as we all know other contributors to this forum have experience false SOS activation based upon location and even in mild weather. Let us know how you get on.

Update on above. New message from SkodaService today reads: “Thank you for your patience whilst we investigate your concerns. At present the complaint is still under review with the factory. I will be in contact within the next 2 weeks to provide an update.” Seems like zero progress despite the previous claim that the SW fix promised for March was complete. 🤷♂️

Glad to hear you are now sorted. I’ve had more updates with this car than the BBC give about Boris and Partygate.! So I no longer have the SOS malfunction . I do however retain: 1. Units in navigation stuck on Km/h 2. Unable to save an S-PIN 3. iPhone Bluetooth connection unreliable ….,among others Apart from that Laura is clueless and 1st time entering of any destination in Navigation pretty much depends on manually entering a postcode. Have now foresaken Laura and her Voice Navigation in favour of Siri on iPhone. And yet….Yet some of us experience none of these issues. It begs the question as to why so many others of us - do…..

Can’t disagree with that 👍

Hi, Oddly enough I posted this in another Briskoda forum just today” Hello I have today received this message from SkodaService U.K. The software update to address a number of issue that ‘many’ but not all of us are experiencing…. appears to be ready, as scheduled, before the end of March. Message reads……. ”The factory are due to release a software update this week, we believe this update will cover a number of items. Once this has been released I will be in a better position to advise what it will include”

Agree about electric not being a panacea and software being an ongoing story. The wifi/bluetooth duplication is a surprise at first. Once the bluetooth connection is made it is used to connect to the cars internal wifi. Once this is made the bluetooth disconnects. The experience in all cars I know of is bluetooth alone. Mine works fine for perhaps half a dozen auto-reconnects and then fails. Often it restores if I open a car door! So the bluetooth connectivity dropping reconnect is a known issue and one for which Skoda has promised a sw update this month…….. maybe……. It surprises me how many of us have different sw issues that don’t seem to affect others.

I feel pretty much the same. My car is really nice and a big step forward in many ways. Having driven VW for decades I am disappointed with the lack of support for faults. I attributed this to Covid lockdowns for long enough yet it now appears to be strategic. I have noisy transmission - whine in low gears and clacking clutch change but my dealer says it’s not ‘excessively’ noisy and anyway he doesn’t have a ‘fix’. Software/ hardware wise - I can live with the mph/kmph issue as it does not appear to affect my ACC though I’ve little doubt it does affect some cars. A major issue of mine is non-auto reconnect of Bluetooth for iPhone. Trivial I know, but it’s been around for years in all cars yet it is faulty in mine. The long awaited software fix is scheduled for this month. We’ll see. So I have mixed feelings. I am now resigned to simply putting up with the issues as this is my last internal combustion car and my next car will be electric. Even so it’s a shame because my decades long admiration for VAG is no longer. I will look to other manufacturers for my future battery model.

- Software
My Software is 1688 (car built in May 2020, delivered Sept 2020) and the latest SW I’ve seen on this thread is 1810. Despite several recalls, I have never had a FIrmware update.- KPH/MPH
You have my sympathies . It must be so frustrating for you.- Software
I completely agree with you👍- Software
A useful article, Thank you. From the article it seems VW are moving on to new hardware in order to solve shortcomings in the infotainment similar to that in Skodas. Like you I have heard of no similar move by Skoda although there are forum members who have been granted new hardware, but has been ‘piecemeal’. Does this strengthen the pressure on Skoda to do more since Octavia is a market competitor to Golf?- Software
Yes, that is helpful, it works and is probably the easiest workaround whilst awaiting the promised software fix. Thanks 👍- Software
Yes, I am used to re-establishing connection by either, opening a car door before I set off✔️ ‘Forgetting Car’ on iPhone CarPlay and reinstating the Bluetooth connection, contacts etc✔️Selecting ‘Smartlink’ on the head unit and selecting my iPhone again ✔️ All of these things work to establish a connection, but it is never persistent and soon fails to connect again. So when I am dashing away for some reason and you end up receiving a call - that you can not take through the infotainment - owing to not auto -connecting - that you end up following one of the above ✔️s (taking your eye off the road) OR pulling over to return the missed call.- Software
Does that once eliminate the problem once and for all? Will give it a go and let you know. Shouldn’t be long as it’s auto-connected twice since I last manually reset ‘use CarPlay’ and it currently doesn’t t get much better than that. 👍- Software
Please tell me more. Nothing the garage or I have been able to do for 15 months from several software upgrades to factory reset has worked. Interestingly opening any car door establishes reconnection. Please explain what you mean by ‘Power Cycle’ the head unit? Thanks- Software
Thanks. Good to hear there is progress and that we may all benefit by April 2022. I personally find CarPlay failing to auto-connect frustrating.- Software
Thanks sneal So your car (which is same model and year as mine) has had the trial ‘fix’ applied. Has it worked? If so can you say: which of the problems you had previously have now gone and which (if any) problems remain? - Software
