I have now been informed by executive.office at Skoda U.K. that mph/kmh is “currently under review” and they are hoping an update will be released by end of March 2022.

I think I would raise that issue with Skoda.Service and have then clarify that point with the dealer. Dealers must be frustrated but that doesn’t invalidate your three year warranty. You have the added cover of your PCP contract. I would expect Dealers to agree to a ‘courtesy’ car (so called for a reason!) if you pick a slot sufficiently in advance that they have one available and can book it out to you.

I have updates set up and some updates do happen from time to time (map of the world comes fills the screen) Since I took ownership in September 2020 several software upgrades have happened under ‘warranty recall’ and have required a visit to the Service Partner.

Every time a Skoda/VW etc goes in for software upgrades, the owner must meet the cost of the fuel and mileage to have the car collected and returned OR to take it in themselves which adds the customers ‘time’ to the issue. Skoda dealers may offer a courtesy car with perhaps two gallons in. They then tell you that you must return the courtesy car with any fuel replaced. So there is ‘cost’ to every Skoda owner to add to the inconvenience. A senior receptionist said to me: ’Well, we all have updates for our iPhone software - that’s just the way these days.’ I politely pointed out to her that eg Apple don’t take the phone off you for a number of days to perform the upgrades (which are optional anyway) and that as they are scheduled to happen in your home overnight there is no cost or inconvenience. ‘Oh, I never thought of it that way ‘ was the response. So roll on Q2 2022 and hopefully resolution to this.

Octa-Geoff - my sympathies, the software is far from intuitive. I have seen that screen and from memory I believe it came up for minor settings (electric driver’s seat position, Lane Assist etc). I can understand your reluctance to ‘save’ if you don't know which setting has changed to prompt the ‘changing settings’ screen. Assuming it IS a minor setting change, I would be inclined to select ‘Save’ just to get rid of the prompt. I have accumulated hours spent in the car working out settings. Some like MPH instead of Km/h on SatNav never ‘save’. S-PIN also - it asks me to save S-PIN but then doesn’t save my preference. If it was me, I’d ‘Save’ but once you’ve had your fingers burned and things are relatively stable again, I can well understand your reluctance. .

Ok. So I can live with what I’ve got. Would you in hindsight advise to leave it there? I am inclined that way now. Agree with you dealers seem disinterested

Update - Skoda Service say the garage has no new update for my VIN and Reg. They said that the factory has not released a fix for the multiple MIB issues on my car. I reminded the handler that we said we would discuss new hardware. The reply was no new hardware discussion whilst software upgrade is pending but that they didn’t give deadlines for new software. I reminded her that there is nonetheless a deadline in that my warranty is now in month15. She said they wouldn’t leave me high and dry. I politely asked for that in writing but she said they don’t put ‘goodwill’ in writing. I told her that members of the online community with the exact same year and model as mine have new hardware because the original MIBs were beyond redemption with software alone. She said she’d update me in a week and at some point she would discuss new hardware but that it is a warranty issue and that SkodaService don’t get involved with warranty claims. I politely told her that if the problems persist it is continuing evidence of improperly trialled hardware/software inherent at the point of sale. She agreed that she would support with escalating to a complaint if needs be. Do those of you with new hardware have similar experiences or have your dealers championed your cause under warranty?

Brilliant news spearmg And thanks for the update. I’ve been promised another call by Skoda Service to chase up the dealer and yet another software upgrade …. Depending on the success of which….. they will begin a discussion around new hardware. No direct response to my email to Kate Laws, but my Skoda Service Handler is aware of the email. My ‘local’ service partner seems uncommitted to solving my issues as I did not buy the car there. Apparently it is entirely up to the individual garage to pursue a warranty replacement - perhaps at the behest of Skoda Service? I am so pleased that you and others have achieved results 👍

Ok so a March 2021 model will accept the latest updated but earlier models may not. Which indicates that older hardware maybe unfit for duty. Replacement could I guess cost £1000. I cant see a replacement being agreed under warranty without a struggle. Time will tell. I have 22 months of warranty remaining. In future I shall test drive any a new car MIB to my satisfaction before purchase. Any misgivings and I’ll walk away

Cheers Octa_Geoff I am due an update shortly then f not successful Skoda Service will start a discussion around a replacement head-unit but they stress that this is at the sole behest of the Service Partner. I am in month 14 of ownership and hope this is sorted before month 36.

SOS Error Message
That could well be the solution. I had a couple of false activations last year after not using due to restrictions in cold weather. I then recharged and used the car more frequently. No false activations since 🤞

Update: So ŠKODA Services has been in touch to say the dealer has found an update. Once verified as applicable to my car they will install. If this does not solve the issues then Skoda Service will have a conversation with me around warranty renewal of the head unit, but they inform me that authorisation of such is exclusively through the dealer who must apply to the warranty team for authorisation to replace. Has anyone achieved a more dynamic outcome on head unit replacement yet?

I have been told by my Garage that sw 1805 needs to be installed to repair Bluetooth disconnecting but that it is not available yet. I have a screenshot from Skoda confirming this. Has anyone had 1805 installed yet

Sorry Neonplanet40, we do both have Octavia 4s which makes different sw all the more confusing.

Thanks Neonplanet44, You have the much sought after F suffix on top of version 1810. Mine is no suffix and around 1622. Mine is an Octavia and yours a Superb. Both lovely cars but both troubled by unready Head Units. Thanks for this info. It all helps

Thanks Skody123, I did in fact use Kate Laws - updated using my (poor) memory. Believe Kate Ross is an actress (eg The Graduate!). Thank you

I sent an email to [email protected] marked Fao Kate Ross. I received a sort of ‘undeliverable’ from [email protected] So it appears this went to VAG in Germany. Can someone please advise on whether or not I have used the correct email address please ?

Thanks sneal. Retaining 1668 is an interesting piece of info. 🤔 I have an active case going with Skoda Servce U.K. for six months now. They say Bluetooth disconnect is a ‘known issue’ awaiting sw fix. They say there is no sw update yet written for this. I have - on the advise of this forum - tried to contact Kate Ross @executive directly myself but got an odd auto-reply from VAG! I raised the escalation issue with my ongoing Skoda.service case-handler as well and am waiting to hear back. Thank you and I shall report back on progress.

Very useful info. Thanks. Do you, Skody123, or does anyone out there know what MIB features 91CP updates. Bluetooth connectivity is my particular issue. But I also have inability to store PIN, settings being lost upon online sw upgrade etc.

Can anyone tell me what this means. It is the search result from the Australian site for my vehicle: 91CP W-Updates control unit I believe I have seen 91CP on this forum somewhere. Before I contact my Service Partner (aka Garage) can anyone shed light on what this sw update is designed to address? 🤞

I have contacted Skoda.U.K. to log my issues, including kmh, losing Bluetooth connectivity, not being able to remember PIN (car not me!) and losing settings. I am aware of lucky people who have already/are receiving new hardware before latest software. My dealer has me waiting for months because they say that Skoda have not released sw update for eg Bluetooth known-issue. So after 14 months of ownership it appears I may be a long way yet from resolution. ☹️ What have others done to expedite progress from ‘wait for Skoda to release’ sw fix to…. ‘ you are due a new head unit and then the latest sw updates’ ?🤷♂️
