  1. Plenty of crips packets blow in front of my car and it's never emergency braked. The sensor could be faulty, other than that nothing to worry about as the car's emergency braking is doing what it's designed to do. ( At least you know it works! ) The awful vibration would have been the ABS kicking in, again doing what it's designed to do i.e. preventing the brakes from locking. The system kicks in when it thinks you're about to crash - i.e. getting to close to the car in front without your foot on the brake pedal. How long have you had the car? Sounds like this is the first time you've experienced it so guess adjusting the sensitivity isn't going to make any difference in this case. If it does it again without reason then it's a trip to the dealer who'll check the system out. Of course it could have been something as innocent as a bird flying past... eating a packet of crisps
  2. Who mentioned anything about similar spec? If you want to reduce your monthly outgoings, getting rid of something that's unnecessary is always a good start. Lower spec, smaller car, more affordable insurance, more mpg - sounds sensible, it's what I'd do. Only the OP will know the figures he has to work with tho.
  3. Nothing stopping you from asking. I've heard of people renegotiating mid term if mileage is going to increase hence your monthly payments increase but decrease? I can't think of a single reason why the finance company would want to reduce their income. If you're looking to save money, you could settle your agreement and take out a new PCP on another car.
  4. As long as your happy but Danny-B's suggestion would have been the cheaper option. If you're a cash buyer then forget all about PCP interest rates as they wouldn't apply to you. For future reference: 1. Purchase the car on Monday morning using PCP 2. On Tuesday morning log in to VWFS and request a settlement figure. Whatever you do, don't 'cancel' the policy, 'settle' it - there's a big difference. All you'll be charged is an administration fee ( about £20-£30 ), you'll pay no interest. But because you purchased via PCP you keep those PCP benefits. So you'd have had your extra year warranty, MOT and servicing all for no more than £30.
  5. +1. Before approaching the service desk with your grumpy face on, first make sure it's not a common problem. If both cars drive differently, then you can ask the service desk why so.
  6. If it was retrofitted by a main dealer then I believe it would have come with a 2yr warranty. If it was fitted over 2yr ago then I guess they're correct in saying it's not covered. To their credit, their diagnostic waiver solution sounds reasonable. If it works fine I can't understand the need for calibration. I had the Skoda highline rear camera system retrofitted ( donkey work done by me, electrical hook up done by 3rd party ) and there was no mention of calibration. It works perfectly OK. You've got me worried now, thanks it's not as if it's integrated in to any safety or parking system, it's just a camera as far as I'm aware. At a guess maybe calibration has something to do with hooking up to tow? What about pushing for it being a software glitch rather than need recalibrated? Front radar was moved on VW group cars from low down on skirt to higher up to centre of grille for the simple reason they were prone to being damaged. Centre of grille still prone to damage so I can understand the need to be recalibrated, but that's something vital to safety systems. ( active? ) Rear camera is passive. The car couldn't give a monkeys if it's not working. How odd. Edit - could tell them it was working fine when you brought the car in to the dealeship so if it's now needing recalibrated then one of their employees much have closed to boot too hard.
  7. Your delay in moving off. Are you sure it's defo the gearbox and not autohold not releasing the brakes quick enough for you? Your 'searching for gears' issue. You mention uphill and downhill - what about on the flat. Does the gearbox still choose the wrong gears when on flat roads?
  8. Did that issue affect whether or not the car was eligible for the extended warranty ?
  9. I'm obviously missing a few brain cells tonight because I can't even take an educated guess what you're talking about. Any chance explaining what the problem is in plain English? There's an edit in my text??? Inline??? highlighted by underscoring the edit??? WTF.
  10. Hi. I used to favour buying cars outright but ever since 2015 have always bought my cars on PCP then settled. Don't know about HP rules but if you buy on PCP then just get a settlement figure - you don't even have to speak to anyone these days, it's all done online thru VWFS ( VW financial services ). You've been advised wrong re: the 14 days and the benefits. 14days is the period everyone has by law to cancel an agreement. This is were lots of people get confused. You are NOT cancelling the PCP agreement, (If you cancel an agreement after 14 days there can be harsh penallties), what you're doing is settling it. As for the benefits - it's up to you. Perhaps some folk want to be cautious and wait a month but you can settle an agreement next day and still keep the benefits. And why not? The benefits apply if you purchase the car on PCP, which you have done. You're perfectly entitled to settle so you haven't broken any rules. On my most recent purchase I bought the car on PCP and settled within a few days. What happens is VWFS will charge you a minimum fee ( which in my case was around £27 ) otherwise it's the amount of interest you owe. And that's it. As I say this time round I didn't even need to speak to anyone, just logged in to VWFS website, entered my details, received a settlement figure and paid them. ( can't remember if it was bank transfer or by cheque ). VWFS settlement Quite cool that Bentley and Lamborghini drivers use the same process Hope that helps.
  11. It used to be commonplace on my policies but was withdrawn many years ago. As for charges. Before I left the rat race in 2000, I used to take a courtesy car for work commitments. I was never charged for it. Ever since then there's always been a charge if I wanted a car. It's certainly not a Skoda thing, Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Ford, VW, SEAT, Renault have been all the same - they all wanted at least £10 a day to cover insurance.
  12. Historically Audi had a poor reputation in North America. Even today, they only have an incredibly small share of the market. VW on the other hand, they have the advantage of having facilities all over North America. Being well established, they also have a much larger share of the market. The company is called VW Groupof America. My guess? Could importing SEAT + SKODA be that much cheaper than a home built VW? Not such a problem for Audi - they're already a premium price product. Could they compete with the 'value for money cars' from the Korean's and Japanese ( who also build cars in North America ).
  13. If the Kamiq is anything like my cars, the signal strength from the head unit isn't great. I can keep phone on front seat, preferably at the front of the centre console where the wireless charging slot sits and it's fine, but if I keep my phone in my pocket, a shopping bag in the boot, or say the lower door bin, the wireless system will often loose connection.
  14. Cheers. The reason for my question was could the old analogue dials with small LCD have displayed more info to the driver than the new cockpit? I have my VC set up to look like yours albeit with map in centre then three info items on the left and 3 info items on the right ( Seems pointless having a rev counter on a car eqipped with DSG ). I want for nothing else from a display but must admit I'd seriously question forking out £400 on a VC today. If it took the car to over £40k tax threashold I defo wouldn't option a VC.
  15. They're all the same platform. To my eyes the Taos closely resembles a SEAT Ateca.
  16. Can you only display one piece of additional info each side of centre display?
  17. For some read most Few people sign up to any forum to say they're happy with a product. And I suspect when they're given advise or the dealer fixes the problem then they disappear. People are only interested in moaning. Of course it's not helped by those who dish out advice and constantly bleet on about the past problems which has no relevance to what the OP asked. Keith - To reiterate, there's nothing whatsoever to worry about with a new Karoq, or rather nothing more than any other car for sale on the market.
  18. Your car is 2yr old and you had an oil change 12mth ago which means you're on the correct service regime ( fixed ) given your mileage. Are you 100% sure you had an 'inspection' service done last October? If it's an Oct 2020 registered then the car was only due an oil change in Oct 21. The service you require now ( 24mth ) will be the oil + inspection service + a pollen filter. Whatever your dealer has quoted you you can always say that unless they can match the price those other dealers for the exact same work then you'll be taking your car elsewhere. What I've done in the past is ask the dealer to give me a price for the service excluding that pollen filter - they usually knock £35 off their quote. You can easily pick up an OEM filter for under £10 outside the dealer network ( or a better one for a few pounds more ). It's dead easy to replace yourself, it sits in a housing behind the glovebox. Once you learn the knack of removing the glovebox, it should take no more than 2min to do the whole job.
  19. Apologies - need to correct that because I was wrong. £750 of that is only if you already own a SEAT so the discount would be approx £3600
  20. I read that as the work having been carried out by a non-franchised dealer. Such an odd thing to say. Is any disputing the car wasn't serviced to the manufacturer recommendations, guidlines and even scheule? The OP had work carried outside main dealer network. As I said, good luck to anyone looking for 'goodwill' when, in the eyes of Skoda, the owner has not shown 100% loyalty to the Skoda network. ( As many of us owners will testify, it can be difficult enough acheiving 'goodwill' when we have shown 100% commitment to the franchised dealer network ). As for prices - they can charge whatever they want, but it's certainly never been my experience and certainly not in a main dealers interest to charge more than other businesses for the same work. If a dealer isn't interested in wanting my business, like the OP, I'd vote with my feet too.
  21. Only if it's not your car - ie it's bought on PCP or leased. However with the cars I buy, the accessories belong to me, not the car.
  22. There are no more known problems with a Karoq as there are with any other car you may buy. Kangarooing? You said it yourself - the posts you read were a while back and would have applied to VW and SEAT 1.5tsi of that period too. Problem with cars from late 2019 onwards are few and far between. Prices - I too notice they're knocking off more money now that supply is coming thru. For instance if you look at a broker site like DriveTheDeal, an Ateca 1.5 SE Tech DSG retails for £30400 but some dealer is offering it for £26000 if you buy via PCP. So deals are defo starting to pick up again.
  23. To cut a long story short, use a different email address.
  24. Wish you luck but it'd be the first I've heard of anyone receiving 'goodwill' after they had a service carried outside the dealer network. I suspect the answer will something along the lines of - "If there was a manufacturing fault then our approved service agent would have noted this at the 1st service ( 15k ? ). Defo no harm in trying tho, I'd be doing the same. Regarding your earlier post, Skoda UK or any importer for that matter, do not 'hide' behind their dealer network as their job is only to advice and liase - basically try and keep the customer happy. They have to rely on their dealer network physically examining so have no option but to refer you back to the dealer. They should have a complaints procedure to follow if you wish to complain about one of their dealers tho. From our point of view, Skoda UK is just a person behind a desk who, to be fair to them, will also work for VW UK, Audi UK, SEAT UK etc. It's a bit off your dealer provided poor customer service and then charge prices higher than advertised. It's up to the individual dealer if they want to reduce prices to compete with local businesses, but I've never heard of one charging more than the advertised price. What were you having done and what price did they quote you? As for rougue dealers, every manufacturer is the same. You mention Volvo. One of the most frustrating experience's I had was from a Volvo dealer in Glasgow who seemed to see problems at every corner, the Perth dealership sorted out the issue without blinking an eye. Guess which dealer received all my future business when I owned Volvos. Vote with your feet is my advice.
