2018 Octavia VRS (245) vs 2017 IS300H
Just read this thread. Nobody including those in city hall, have a clue if petrol cars will be banned in 10/15 years, but what I can say for fact, is that like the Skoda VRS, the Lexus IS300H also has a petrol engine. As above from Root, nothing is ever guaranteed but buying an EV is about as 'futureproof' as you can get right now.

Non UK Kodiaq
Are you trying to make the OP feel worse that he already does? The garage will have refunded the monies the OP paid them, as they are legally obliged to do. As part of the deal, the OP sold his car to them. At that point the car became theirs. It's nobody's business but theirs what they do with their car. If there was enough profit in the Kodiaq, you do realise that they may well have sold the OP's car for LESS than they bought it from him - selling at auction should be the lowest price a car will sell for. If they did, as you suggest, make money on it then that's just rubbing salt in to the wound because that's how the OP should have sold his car. The situation is now resolved - no point in digging up the past, time to move on.

Non UK Kodiaq
Argue all you want, the law only states they provide a full refund. ( The garage may have been duped themselves but that's of no concern to OP ). Suppose you could argue for out-of-pocket expenses such as the money to cancel the insurance but that's minimal and if the garage say no then it gets messy. Just not worth it for the sake of a few quid. I'm surprised they didn't try to benefit from this by offering the OP one of their other cars. Why is that a problem? There's loads of 2020 SE-L cars out there + you don't have a trade-in so that's to your advantage too. If you buy an approved used car from a Skoda dealer what's to worry about? Or rather that's about as safe as you can get. If you're thinking approved used 2020 SE-L's are too expensive or cost significantly more than the car you purchased from Jaguar, then lesson learned - if the price of a car seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Karoq Fuel Consumption
Reads to me like you're comparing an average mpg over 2000 miles to an avaerage over 220 miles. I wouldn't expect them to be the same. Additionally, would I be right to assume the average European temp over your month long trip was higher than the temp over that single journey at the end of your trip of 220miles? That alone would explain the difference.

Dampness in the Passenger Footwell
If I were in your position? Given the amount of rain we've had over the past days, I'd have expected the carpets to be wet when they looked at your car. Is your car garaged? Leave the car outside until you next visit the dealership. Monday's weather is looking particularly lovely in Central Scotland for detecting leaks Given they can't find evidence of a leak then what the garage has said about allocating 4hr is reasonable. Car is only 5wks out of warranty and extended warranty doesn't cover perishible parts? First of all they would need to find at least evidence of a leak but if something is found then I'd fully expect Skoda to take over the costs. But... Elsewhere you say the car was only purchased in June? You've only had it for 5mths? If Skoda take over the issue all well and good but if they don't then I'd be having a quiet word with their dealer principal about your statutory rights. Put it to them the problem was present at the time you purchased the car. At only 5mths old it's up to them to prove otherwise, not you. If Windscreen? Same as above - that's their problem not yours. Perhaps it's not the original windscreen / the replacement wasn't fitted properly. Drains? As per my previous post, that's covered by a recall. My experience of Henrys service dept is good, When mentioning a leak, I'd have thought that would be their prime suspect but it's worth asking them all the same. They should already be aware of the recall depending on VIN number.

Heated Steering Wheel
@BoxerBoy Not an option I've seen on my car but that's probably because you have the old version. Cars with the new style steering wheel have the heater button on the wheel itself so very simple to turn on/off and adjust temp setting.

Dampness in the Passenger Footwell
Don't shoot the messenger. Best put your point to my Skoda dealer because that's what they called it. Can you explain how the drains got blocked and what's the solution VW Group have put in place to overcome the problem? If we're going to be pedantic then it was described to me that the older plug / filter / valve / strainer / bleed / outlet / trap whatever on the end of the tube that caused the drains to clog, the newer design doesn't.
-
Heated Steering Wheel
Sorry , not understanding that. Are you saying that turning on the heated seat also turns on the steering wheel?

Dampness in the Passenger Footwell
Your car is 2019? Depends when it was manufactured, ours was latter half of 2019, but there was a recall notice when it went for it's service last year. The recall was to do with the sunroof - to check the drain plugs. My car already had the updated plugs fitted so wasn't an issue. If your car has been serviced by a main dealer within the past year then assuming they've done their job correctly, the sunroof drain plugs shouldn't be the cause.
-
Heated Steering Wheel
Defo something up then. If I switch on both steering wheel and seat at the same time, I start to feel the heat coming thru about 1min more than I feel the seat. My car is different to above experiences, I'm switching the heat off after 5min as the element is too hot.

Inspection/service question
Apologies but struggling to undrstand the point you're trying to make here: Your local garage - are you talking about a local Skoda garage, a local Halfords or another retailer? No chance of arguing 'poor quality shocks'? Chance! you're basing your decision on a chance? Anyway, what's to stop you from keeping the failed shocks and arguing your case later at a later date? Distant dealer? Again who are you talking about - a distant Skoda dealer or a distant 3rd party? I couldn't possibly guess because you've not provided any information. "our outgoing mint, low miles Octavia involved me getting an MOT fail" Can anyone other than Arthur Daley really describe a car that fails an MOT as mint?

Recall - Sunroof
As per above, recalls only done on safety. If your sunroof is leaking then take it to a main dealer and they'll fix it - seems perfectly sensible to me. But not to Americans it ain't. If you read the article the claims are not against the fault, the claims are against the results of that fault. If I'm reading it correctly then when you have a faulty sunroof in America, you wait until mould grows in the carpets then you approach the dealer. Bunch of lazy barstewards. I wouldn't compensate them either.

Opinions needed for a 5 seater kodiaq
I was initially going to post something similar but as the ISOfix is only on the outer two rear seats ( optionally on the front ) then wouldn't it be a pain-in-the-butt having to remove one of the child seats to acess the booster kid in the rear? That said they could always use the rear hatch door to access it but that's assuming the boot is empty. OP - Not sure if you're aware of this but most child seat manufacturers say their seat is incompatible with the rear-most seats of a 7 seater kodiaq - it's due to the head restraint. But If you check out other posts on this you'll see that owners have overcome this by reversing that head restaint which gives the smooth surface needed for mounting a child seat, therefore it is possible. If it were me, I'd buy a 7 seater then place one baby seat in the very rear behind the booster, the booster + other child seat in row 2 then there would be tonnes of room for everyone and easy access. This video review might help? Kodiaq baby seat And if you want to keep the kids amused, add the full length glass roof

Tyre Replacement Options
The problem with your reply is you haven't defined what is low tread. If a tyre is 7mm when new, will it perform the same at 6mm? 5mm? 4mm? 4.3mm? 4.2mm? 4.1mm? etc No matter how gradual the process is, I suspect every trye becomes less efficient as it wears but I also suspect that for the most part, that difference is negligable. However just like brake fluid etc, I suspect wear -v- performance is not linear. I believe there will come a point where a tiny level of wear in wear will result in a larger drop in performance. I for one would love to know where that drop-off lies. So yes, I think people do need to read tests and articles. The legal min tead in the UK is 1.6mm. Not being an expert, I haven't a clue if a 1.7mm tyre will perform the same as a 7mm tyre but even if it did, I strongly suspect that's not true for every model of tyre. If I asked the question to 100 people "At what tyre depth should I change my tyre to maintain it's performance" I suspect I'd get near 100 different answers. And that's because we're all armchair experts. The more indi reviews the better I'd say.

Replacing KESSY exterior door handle
I'd like my post to be posted where I intended it to be posted. As for calm... I'd appreciate it if people do not reply to questions that were never asked. When people do that the OP has to then read thru load of irrelevent information. Again with all due respect, if you want to discuss car security and stealing cars then either reply to a security discussion ( there's lots to chose from ) or start a brand new thread. Your reply has no relevence whatsoever on me seeking technical help. Thanks for the information re: EKTA etc. but I know that all ready. I'd just like people to answer the question I asked. If nobody has then no worries.

Replacing KESSY exterior door handle
1: The info I'm looking for can only come from someone who's changed a kessy door handle themselves otherwise we'll end up with a thread full of armchair experts replying with their best guesses. 2: I'm confused why my post has been moved to the Kodiaq forum? I didn't post my question in the Kodiaq forum because it doesn't concern a Kodiaq. It's on a Karoq but that's irrelevent as my question is applicable to any car with KESSY. There's a whole bunch of Skoda models past and present that use the exact same part - Fabia3, Fabia4, Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiaq, Octavia3, Scala and Superb3. Can you please move my question back to the general area so those owners have a chance to reply? The handle certainly needs to be removed ( which is easy to do ) due to damage. It may need to be replaced. With all due respect, my question has nothing to do about the pros and cons of kessy security. It's of no interest to me if others which to disable KESSY, I'm only interested in a specific KESSY matter. Thanks.

Replacing KESSY exterior door handle
Just wondering if anyone has replaced a KESSY door handle themselves? I need a wee bit of info.

All Season Tyres....
Using that logic are you saying it safer having a sharp pointed spike mounted in the centre of a steering wheel rather than an airbag? When folk bring psychology and saving 1.2mpg in to the equation, they come over to me as scraping the bottom of the barrel to prolong a discussion. It's the Briskoda version of the filibuster.

Just wondering who are those 'fly-by-night' amateur insurers you speak of?

Sudden braking for no reason
But you can switch it off, it's just that on the latest cars ( here in the EU anyway ) legislation is such that you have to switch it off each time you start the car - i.e as FinFerNan says, not permanently. Not sure I've ever read of anyone being left stranded because the collision warning system has failed. I stand to be corrected tho. I don't get why would anyone want to 'permanently' switch off a safety system - just like I don't get when 57 tory MPs resigned because Boris Johnson was PM, why anyone would then consider him as a future PM? It's unjustifiable.

Inspection/service question
Is there anything checked on an MOT that isn't wear and tear? Not sure a warranty would cover any potential MOT failure on a 3yr old car. Depends on dealer or if you have a particular service plan but MOT costs £45 at all Skoda dealers near me. I joined the Halfords car club ( free ) so their £40 MOT is reduced to £30 after using the £10 voucher you receive when signing up. And then if you apply code VFONE-50MOT at checkout, you receive a further discount. My MOT cost £17.43 and was done by National tyres who're my nearest Halfords MOT centre. Current MOT rules? MOT is due 3yrs from first registration and thereafter, one year from the previous test date. The Brake fluid and Haldex aren't strickly 'needed', they're recommended. Same here, local dealer mentioned the a brake fluid change and air con service, both of which I declined. I had the brake fluid tested and it was well within tolerance. Getting rid of the car in March so it'll be up to the next owner what they want to do with it.

Speed Camera POI in 2022 Kodiaq
I've commented several times what the problem is and the solution. If you're not able to update maps then as long as you're following the instructions it's almost certain your dealer has to run a software update. It's a known problem with early MIB3 systems, the frustrating thing being that Skoda haven't informed their customers. I've had the update done, can now update maps. ( A few other idosyncrasies have disappeared too ). Don't know about POI tho, never had the need to use that function. I'd have assumed 2022 MB3 systems already have the system update applied but that's only a guess.

Inspection/service question
I It's so confusing isn't it. The best thing to do is ask that question to your dealer. But you're right, it's best ignored - the message really shouldn't be coming up if you're on the variable service regime - it's only asking for checks that you can do yourself. ( the checks people should be doing themselves every month ). Think of it like this, servicing is commonly refered to as minor and major services. The service + inspection is Skoda's speak for that minor service, whilst the service + inspection + extended scope is their speak for a major service. If you are on the variable service regime, then minor services aren't relevant - your car only needs major services. ( or as near as damn it. They're actually called 'variable' services ). There is no need for your car to be 'inspected'. In fact I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but Skoda don't even give a price for 'inspection only'. The garage can reset that notification message for you or there's instructions on YouTube if you want to do it yourself. I wouldn't even pay any attention to that service screen if you're on the variable service program. The clue is in the word 'variable' ( the screen is giving out 'fixed' information). Your car will NOT require an oil change service in 7900mi or 300days, it will require what's called it's "2nd variable service". And after that it'll reqire it's 3rd variable service. It's a question asked many times over the years - why do the whole VW goup make such a meal out of servicing?

Gearbox in emergency mode - no reverse gear
Completely agree that verbal isn't worth the paper it's written on - personally I'd be emailing them along the lines of " After our discussion today re: DSG problem, can you confirm my car is OK to drive? " and ask they reply to the email rather than give verbal assurance. Skoda assist is a breakdown recovery service, not a car rental agency, you don't call them to arrange courtesy cars. Alternative transport may be provided only if they deem your car is unable to be driven. Even if they do say that, they'll recover it back to the dealership, but if the dealership then say that it can be driven... They're not going to pay for a car under those circumstances. In any case you'd need a sympathtic patrolman because by the letter of the book, if they get wind that the car has already been to the dealer with this same fault, they're perfectly within they're right to say its not their responsibility to provide a car. ( see T&C about recovering a car twice with the same fault ).

Sudden braking for no reason
Sounds to me like Karock is explaining rear cross traffic alert. It works the same way as front assist ( tho I doubt there's any need to apply ABS ) but just using the parking sensors therefore the radar beam range isn't that far. Besides I can't understand your theory - assist systems only affect your vehicle, not someone elses? Karock - I had the system kick in on my other car for what I first thought no apparent reason, but there was a ruddy big rock lying underneath grass on the verge. I was trying to do a 3 point turn and couldn't understand at first why the car halted then was reluctant to move.
