  1. That's the conclusion I came to: "To summarise, I am not going to do anything with it from a legal standpoint. I cannot prove, whether I believe they have caused the issue or not, that they are to blame and as @kodiaqsportline has stated, it wouldn't be financially worth it" What I was initially asking was, where do I stand from a legal standpoint if they had resprayed the boot lid and this has happened. Do I have a cause to claim? What's my chances? I'd say those questions are now answered. I still want to check if there's damage for my own peace of mind but I doubt ill find something catastrophic.
  2. My wife has a 2015 1.2 TSI Seat Leon (MK2 engine, not MK1 which had problems) and it's indicating it to be very economical. We visited my parents on the moors on Thursday so a mixture of national speed limit, town and hilly B roads and with 2 adults, baby, dog and boot full of stuff we achieved 58MPG. She's seen over 50mpg on motorways too. Fitted to a variety of cars including the Octavia. Just in case you were considering other engines/cars. Sounds like you are doing decent mileage so a diesel may still yield better results, especially with the cost of diesel not wildly different to petrol now. I have no experience of the 1.6L but from what I've seen from various posts they are a little less reliable than the 2L although probably a bit better economy wise. Every DSG I've ever driven has always provided a lower economy than manual equivalent but depends where else you are driving in between too.
  3. Great stuff, glad you are pleased with it!
  4. That initial torque figure is great and will make it feel fast. How does it drive? Interested as really want to get mine mapped. Remind me, is yours DSG? I think, although maybe wrong, red is before and blue is after. There's no crossover at 5250 and it's coincidence. They should have put Torque as one colour and power as the other.
  5. So, I can see how my slapdash approach to phrasing this topic isn't the best so I will attempt to add some more context and information. I am not outright accusing the dealer of the bodywork issues. I wanted to forearm myself with any potential avenues I can go down if it's established that they may have been the cause due to workmanship so I can make a decision. As I knew bodywork was completed in that area of the vehicle and had no paperwork to refer to, I made an assumption it was probably (but not definitely) due to what they had done. I understand after research that I could be covered under the Consumer Rights Act for it to be fit for purpose, as described and of satisfactory quality. With it being over 6 months old, the onus is on me to prove that the issue was there from the start and that would mean a professional to inspect it. If they state it was there at the point of sale and no consideration was given by the seller, I could have the option of taking them to the small claims court on the basis that it was not fit for purpose. If this was a consumable item, I know I would have zero chance of claiming and it wouldn't be reasonable to do so, even before 6 months. But bodywork to a degree should last a longer period of time. The variable factor being how we have looked after the car. I have cleaned the car approximately 4 times since ownership as it's my wife's daily and simply, she doesn't care if it's dirty. I understand that If we went to court, proving it is on the balance of probabilities and professional information supplied. I was trying to establish if A) it was financially worth it and from stated cases or individuals who had been through similar, what was the outcome? Once I learnt the information regarding my potential rights, I did as @toot has stated and contacted them to ask their policy around repairs and for more information around what was done. Although I was sent photos of the before and and after at the point of sale, this was over multiple emails and I have not got the photos of the before damage anymore. I must have deleted this email awhile back for whatever reason. I have also not got any information relating to the work that was carried out. I do have an email chain where damage to the rear bumper was discussed and agreed to be completed but I don't know to the extent they went with blending/spraying the area so didn't know if the boot lid would be covered and this was the reason for the poor finish. The garage were very helpful (as they were when buying the car) and supplied part of an internal document which stated the work that was completed. They repaired some minor scuffs on the offside corner of the rear bumper for which they removed it. No remedial work was carried out on any of the other bodywork. The garage were perplexed at the finish and stated it wouldn't have left them like that, for which I agreed. I checked the vehicle over fully and picked up on some points including having part of the intake replaced due to damage and noting some minor scuffs on the front bumper. I am 95% sure it wasn't there when I took delivery of it and I believe that if I had washed it more frequently it would have shown it earlier. But, I am no expert and I cannot categorically say it was/wasn't there. To summarise, I am not going to do anything with it from a legal standpoint. I cannot prove, whether I believe they have caused the issue or not, that they are to blame and as @kodiaqsportline has stated, it wouldn't be financially worth it. I will take the internal plastic panel off to check for any damage underneath. My concern more than a poor finish is that there is damage underneath and it's been repaired due to this. If that's the case what has it been through? There is no registered accident from the vehicle check we paid for when we bought it. More than a financial aspect, my family travel in this and although there are no other signs of repaired damage (broken glass in the wheel well, damage around this area, etc) I want it to be safe. I would like to think it's been resprayed because of scratches or scrapes rather than an accident but can't rule this out yet. Thanks for the replies @toot and @kodiaqsportline, both useful.
  6. Thanks Pete, I couldn't do it on the mobile version but easily visible in the desktop version. I'm going to delete this topic and educate myself a little to save any more upset.
  7. Thank you for the hostile and condescending reply. Clearly, as you have pointed out, I know nothing about this so thought I would ask. Anyone can read law and legislation from Google, including me. What I was trying to find out was whether anyone else had been in a similar situation and if/how they claimed and what the outcome was. I'm not made of money. My wife and I used savings to buy a car after hers conked out. We had a limited time to buy it but had to factor in for our upcoming child and a dog. I am careful and considerate when spending alot of money and spent alot of time checking it as best I can. I knew the garage were going to respray it, they sent me the before photos to show the scuffs and scratches before the work was carried out. I wish you the best climbing off your high horse.
  8. Ladies and gents, a bit of advice if possible of where we stand. Approximately 1 year ago we bought a 2015 Seat Leon estate for the wife to be the daily. We knew the garage had undertaken work to tidy the back end up (they told us as much) but did not understand how much was resprayed. I checked the car over thoroughly before accepting it and they sorted a few minor niggles. Fast forward to yesterday, I was cleaning the car and noticed the paint in the photos underneath the rear window. This wasn't there when bought and has appeared relatively recently. Where do we stand from a fit for purpose for reasonable amount of time claim? If it was a bulb or ancillary I'd expect to be way past any claim time but bodywork should last. I don't know if there's rust appearing there or if it's just paint flaking off. It's also flaked off around the passenger wheel arch where the bumper meets the rear quarter too. If needed we will get it professionally sorted but don't want to be paying really when it should have been fit for purpose from the start. Thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks Gaz, it matches the texture of the diffuser quite well and was quite easy to fit. Definitely recommend them, not as bulky as the ABS ones too but covers up the minor scratches.
  10. Thanks bud, I thought I had trawled Kopacek's website but didn't see those! Shame about the alloys, when they are so damn expensive to buy in the first place (even second hand) you want them right. It makes a huge difference to the car. I kerbed mine shortly after getting them refurbed had to make do with touching them up with black nail varnish. It worked well but I'd rather have not had to use it!
  11. They could just have been fussy. They seemed to work on more high end cars and most of those had gloss black wheels. I'd love a part number for the genuine centre caps? I have found I can buy the cheap VRS badges (as pictured) and they will either fall off or corrode. I've tried clear lacquer but it just scratches off. Ideally I'd like some black badges but may settle for OEM. Only other place that seems to do aftermarket centre caps if Kopacek but I'm not keen on the honeycomb design they offer. Shadow chrome looks good on white!
  12. A few small mods. Not sure on the bumper protector yet... Dynamic indicators (my original indicators were stress cracking) in a smoked effect which matches the black scheme. Next up a bumper vinyl protector from EZ Mods. I have to say the quality seems spot on but not sure if I should have gone for a clear cover? Front shock absorbers are still on the list, hopefully later this month but just having to watch finances.
  13. That's gloss black if you want a comparison. I suggested satin to the refurber but he said Matt or Satin stain/mark easily. Whatever they used has worked really well and still comes up shiny. I just need to find some decent centre caps as the ones in the picture either fell off or succumbed to corrosion!
  14. Depends on time of year. Winter I see 28ish for the same commute. But a 5 mile commute see's my oil temp get to 75-80 degrees as I'm arriving in the winter. Based on that I wouldn't own a diesel unless I was doing at least a 12 mile journey, it just wouldn't be worth it. I covered just over 6k last year and probably won't do much more than that this year. Guaranteed you'd always get better MPG with a diesel but you'd need a newer TDi for clean air zones whereas you'll have more flexibility with Petrols from what I understand. Compare the issues with diesels in waterpumps, carbon build up and DPF issues the offset isn't alot compared to petrol problems. You'll pay more for a petrol and DSG, they just seem to command more money than diesel and generally the diesels will be the leggier ones.
  15. I commute a 5 mile journey into work and back, mixture of 40/50mph dual carriageways and 30mph town and I'll see 32mpg most times. I get 37ish going out to my parents in the sticks and best I had was 41mpg on a sensible motorway journey. Mines a 220 DSG and I drive it sensibly most of the time.
  16. So I was umming and ahhing about shocks. I could pick up Sachs or Monroe easily enough but wanted Bilstein's so needed to measure. There seemed to be no way of confirming, although I was fairly sure, as were others, that it would be 55mm. Finally got to the point I could jack the car up and get a caliper on it to measure the width. 55mm. Part number 5Q0 413 031 FP was one part number, the other similar part number came back with nothing. The above part number confirms through various sites it's 55mm so I'll get the B4s ordered soon and hopefully get them on! I might splash out on some ARB links and other bits too but will see how the budget goes. Does anyone have any clue where to buy some half decent wheel caps too?? I have the originals without the fascia's but every eBay cap I try is naff. They last a year and corrode as well as sticking up off the cap itself. I don't want to spend original Skoda money or for Super Skoda honeycomb caps but will if this is all that's available.
  17. It's such a shame, it means people will eventually go and buy newer cars that are cheaper on the monthly payments. Same with tax, my dad wants to buy a Saab 9-3 estate (has a Saab 900), only a 2L turbo but these are almost £600 to tax a year!
  18. I think I looked on Awesome GTi's website just after Christmas (was planning on using Christmas overtime) as Racingline had their shop site down and it was a very similar price to what you've been quoted for both ECU and gearbox tune. It's alot of money to drop on a car, I ended up putting money into savings. Being a recent new father and soon to have nursery costs and mortgage costs going up my disposable income is going from little to nothing 🥴 Unfortunately I have front shock absorbers to now replace, I might change all 4 as it'll work out cheaper in the long run. I have bought front topmounts and will look at ARB links, bushes and rear D bushes too. But means I won't be getting a map any time soon.
  19. I think you'd be hard pressed to feel the difference between them, there's 2 many other variables. Short of back to back testing in a variety of conditions which you can't easily do, both are going to be capable and the outright performance will vastly improve the way the car works. I can't imagine there will be much peak power difference between the two, it would come down to driveability.
  20. Res deletes on TSi cars. Makes it drone and do your head in! Any modification will have a knock on effect. Remaps will highlight weaknesses in certain parts of the engine and drivetrain. Lowering springs will highlight knackered shocks and topmounts. Fiddling about with VCDS, even if you are following instructions for a very similar vehicle, could still have an undesired effect.
  21. Interesting topic and one I've been debating myself. I've a 2015 VRS DSG estate, I'm edging towards Racingline. I spoke to them at Goodwood last year and they impressed me. Revo and APR were also on my hitlist. Some mappers recommend different plugs for stage 1, some don't. My last car was mapped and had OE spec plugs, no issues at all.
  22. That is nuts! I'm 37, 11 years no claims and just renewed with eSure for £287 on a 15 plate TSi. That only other companies with a similar cost was Admiral and LV. But it's going to be a lottery, what works for you and what works for me will probably be completely different so sometimes just shopping around is best.
  23. I don't think I would be disappointed with any map TBH. Companies like Revo are big for a reason and you don't tend to hear of people complaining unless there's another issue with their car that has developed due to the extra strain. With the DSG map they all seem to have similar advantages of heat protection, extra clamping forces, faster shifts, etc. I think a engine and gearbox map would transform it.
  24. What would you suggest instead of Bilstein without breaking the bank? I can get both front B4s for around £150 so that's a rough budget. Saying that, just like Schtum I have had positive experiences with Bilstein B4s with previous BMW and my Golf.
  25. Thank you all for your help though, I don't want to come across argumentative, I'm just confused why companies can't get it right!
