Which Bilstein shock?...
I figured most are 55mm but it's hassle to send them back. So you don't reckon the G07 on the build sticker and G07 on Bilstein's website are related? Ill have to take it into a garage to measure.

Doug's Race Blue VRS wagon
I can imagine being slightly heavier than an Octavia but with another 60hp and whatever torque over mine it is a sleeper already. With a map it's more powerful than an R without the 4wd which is arguably more fun. I've heard of TVS, any idea what makes their DSG map special over Revo/Racing Line/APR?

Doug's Race Blue VRS wagon
Sounds well sorted anyway! I always find I chase the mechanicals and maintenance and never get around to any of the fun stuff. My last Golf GTi was mapped, but that was manual and would slip the clutch so I couldn't really have any foot down moments, even feeding in the power. What I would love is in 'normal' mode the shift point to be a few hundred RPM higher. The box wants to change up all the time for eco reasons, but I'd like it to hold onto gears just a little bit longer. Who are you looking at map wise?

Which Bilstein shock?...
Hey all, After receiving advice on here regarding topmounts and with a mechanic mate helping out I set out to change my springs on my Octavia VRS for some Racing Line ones. Unfortunately, once jacking the car up my shocks were obviously in a poor way so new ones are needed. I know there is 2 sizes of strut. From a reasonable amount of research on here, someone on a post said the code will be on the build sticker in the boot. I think G07 on the boot build corresponds to shock size, can someone confirm this? This is because I noticed the Bilstein website says the below, In which case these would be correct? Unfortunately I don't have even a basic jack to get it in the air and measure before ordering. Thanks in advance!

Doug's Race Blue VRS wagon
Thanks bud, I think they do. They will be much better with some lows and a better offset! I still want one, I didn't really decide between Revo and Racing Line. Both sound competitive but I don't like the idea of basically flashing the map on, I'd prefer to get on a rolling road and at least see what it's producing. I'm not a numbers fan, certainly not going to be chasing them. Are you considering a remap or do you have one already?

Doug's Race Blue VRS wagon
We took the VRS down to Newquay in April for the wife's birthday. As usual, it didn't miss a beat! Comfortable and fast when it needs to be. I arranged with a mechanic friend to finally get the springs fitted to the VRS! Ordered some new Bilstein topmounts too, just in case. Car has done 88k so figured they were past their best. It was quite obvious when the car was jacked up that both the shocks were leaking therefore spring fitting was postponed 😒 Just pricing up 2 new front Bilstein B4s. Might as well upgrade! Managed two tip runs, one with a complete garden waste bin in the back, who said they aren't practical! Had to give the interior a full hoover, clean the leather and re-balm the leather after that though 😁 Lastly, my trick with a centre cap didn't work at all. It sits proud and the clear lacquer just scratched off. I may have to fork out for genuine Skoda ones or fancy Kopacek ones. Any other recommendations?

Vrs fuel type
Tesco 99. It's about the same cost as most garage forecourt standard petrol and I've never had an issue on it. I have friends who run all sorts of highly tuned cars on Tesco 99 (450bhp RX7, N/A forged Duratecs, etc) so for my very stock 220 TSi it's fine. I'm lucky enough to not have to penny punch or use more than 1 tank a month. The only thing a mechanic mate said to me is that better quality fuel may help with these engines due to being direct injection. Slightly less likely to to carbonize intakes but I think there's little in it.

aftermarket wheels thread
Meh, I don't get it. I don't see why there would be vast differences between two cars running the same setup. Though I've always thought the facelifts look lower than the pre facelift 🤔

As in mine or his? Id definitely be weirded out if mine has had suspension work/stuff replaced with non standard. Full dealer service history for 80k when I bought it and no sign of any suspension work. I'll see soon though when I get the springs fitted.

Octavia holding resale price
Are you looking for petrol or diesel? Agree with some of the comments. I have a 15 plate DSG VRS petrol estate with a nice spec and 88k on the clock and FDSH. Not for sale, but I'd estimate £12.5k so maybe not ridiculous. Or I'm influenced by prices. IMO, Autotrader is ALWAYS high. eBay could be a good one to look at but as someone said, supply and demand. Very few TSi's around, TDi's are certainly cheaper as they fall out of fashion. Audi's are great, interior will probably be slightly better than the Skoda. Servicing costs with dealers will be higher, they have double wishbone suspension so more expensive if you have to renew anything and if you want a well specced, sporty and similar engined Audi it won't be alot different I'd imagine.

Yours does look low, but from looking around over the time I've had mine I think most dont look as low as yours. Yours looks like it has springs fitted?

Octavia estate mk 3 retractable parcel shelf - will other mks work?
My wife's Leon has something similar but it's definitely different and a different mounting as well. I wouldn't be surpised if the mk2 is the same though.

Front topmounts
Thanks bud, from the second part of your reply am I right in thinking that originally the topmounts are one piece with the bearing? I contemplated just buying an OEM bearing and replacing this but sounds like it might not work. Currently weighing up between Febi-Bilstein, Lemforder and trying to find OEM cheaper on eBay, I just currently don't have the part number.

Front topmounts
Hey all, cars coming up to 90k and I'm putting some Racingline 20mm lowering springs on. Planning to change the front topmounts whilst the struts are off but genuine ones are massively expensive (£146 per side!) I've done a bit of searching but nothing obvious came up. Last time I changed the front topmounts on a car with non OEM topmounts they fitted badly and made the car stand taller. Any recommendations for aftermarket without breaking the bank? Pic for attention!

Octavia estate mk 3 retractable parcel shelf - will other mks work?
I am not sure if the mk2s are the same? Should be able to find photos/part numbers. If not, I swear my wife's 2015 Leon estate has the same thing, I'll check part numbers if you want?

I second this, I used a ratty pair of pliers and it was tricky enough.

coolant expansion bottle
Difficult to know, the silicone bags are not the easiest to see even with fresh coolant and I can't imagine an average owner is going to go to hassle of removing the bag. Last time I looked the expansion tanks were about £40 and a 20 min job to replace.

Ah, makes sense. I will grab it tomorrow and post it up, thanks!

Xenon adjustment after fitting 20mm lowering springs?
I doubt you've screwed it. I have a hunch that the car likes to know where the headlights are so it knows how much up/down adjustment it has and keep it within an optimum range, like it can self level through VCDS/OBD11 but if manually adjusted it's just not where it thinks the lights are. I suspect if yours are still working fine and still doing the calibration thing there can't be anything wrong with it. If it was lowered to be basically on its ass, and you manually adjusted it I suspect it would have more of a problem as it would be massively out of tolerance.

Thanks for your reply. Is this on the Android Auto app or the phone software version? If in the app, whilst connected to the car?
