  1. Actually i haven't noticed it at all. Was a pleasent surprised after Ateca, where this sound was quite loud.
  2. They should be on the same level. That's correct. You need any kind of diagnostic tool for VAG, it can be OBD11 (that's what i used). It's needed to save new settings, otherwise computer will move lights to initial position. As for special whiteboard, you can use some wall, measuring tape and something to mark position on the wall. Height can be easily calculated. Matrix calibration and level adjustment are two separate things fortunately. I have adjusted height without touching matrix calibration.
  3. Have you tried to adjust the dipped beam? Yes, it has a strange shape compared to older types of lamps, but i find it works quite ok. Personally was never flashed on dipped beam. Might be that yours are missalligned.
  4. That's true, at least when it comes to tyre noise. Also had 2014 Leon FR. Tyre noise was awful. New Leon is exactly the same. O4 is not bad, but could be better. Although it's on par with CLA Merc.
  5. Am not really sure if this will work in O4. We have "mist" kind of washers, not the ones with 2 or 3 nozzles. In my previous car (Ateca) "mist" washers were adhusted using a small allen key. By turning it you would set it higher or lower. Edit: have checked pics of O4 nozzle, and it seems no allen key needed anymore. Instead it SEEMS, that it's possible to adjust by just moving it manually.
  6. I'm getting it from local distributor in Poland. I guess you can find plenty of them in France, you could also use Amazon. There's a big choice.
  7. All petrol 1.5 TSI's are ACT as far as i know.
  8. I don't know to be honest. Maybe you should just report it under warranty? It's really hard for us, on the forum, to give you definite answer if we haven't heard it. From your description i would suspect it's 2 cylinder mode, but i cannot be 100% sure.
  9. Hiccup is there when accelerating, and engine switches from 2 cylinder to 4 cylinder. @PilsnerUrquel set your VC to show fuel consumption on one of the dials. There you should get info if it switched to 2 cylinder mode. Observe if symptoms you are describing are showing when in 2 cylinder mode. Most probably this is the case.
  10. I agree front doors felt solid, but that was before using butyl mats and foam. By comparison before there were not solid at all Done rear yesterday. Installed Focal IS VW 155 set, used butyl mats inside of the doors, but this time only below reinforcement, behind the speaker. Somehow didn't feel like removing the glass and mechanism this time. Also 10mm foam on the door card. Noise is bit lower again. To be honest it slowly starts to feel almost "premium-like" Sound is a bit better again, but it's not as dramatic difference, as when i replaced the fronts. Anyway highly recommend both deadening of the doors and replacing the speakers. Those Focals are great for the money.
  11. Seems they are changing coding to disable capacitive steering wheel. This is a temporary workaround, until they can finally manufacture steering wheel correctly 🤣 Anyway in some cases it's really needed. For many people the issue is getting worse up to the point, where errors are poping up every few seconds and systems are getting useless. By disabling capacitive steering wheel errors are gone, and systems are at least partially usable. Good to know they now offer this as official service, cause so far they didn't, so users could either use OBD11/VCDS to disable it, or got stuck with "ping" sound every few seconds...
  12. Small update after a bit longer drive today. Actually bass extension and quality is much better than with stock speakers. But biggest difference is in case of "dense" music. Before Roots by Sepultura sounded flat and everything turned into one piece of "noise". Now it's much better. Sound is selective, you can hear separate instruments and bass line sounds much better. Wonder how it develops when speakers are fully "burned-in", as well as when i replace (and deaden) the rear...
  13. Have completed IS VW 165 installation in the front. Difference is quite big. Bit better bass extension, better mid range and highs, much better decays/reverbs (like guitar strings) and details and better sound stage (git some depth to it). I like it. That again makes me think, that @Filternz should review amp settings, as there has to be something wrong. Flax + amp should be MUCH better than stock, unless something is messed up.
  14. Before O4 i had Ateca, which is Karoq's twin. It's a nice car, but i would never say it's similar size. I mean interior is similar, except for different seating positions, but boot... Karoq's boot is tiny compared to O4, especially if you take 4x4. Also fuel economy of Ateca was awful compared to O4. I had the same engine (1.5 TSI with DSG), and in Ateca it was consuming roughly 30% more.
  15. Yes, 1.5 is VERY economical in O4. Unlike in Seat Ateca, where it was consuming roughly 30% more
  16. It's not so much about dealers, as about importers/distributors and manufacturer. They are not willin to pay dealerships for software upgrades, unless they are done to resolve some isues reported by a customer. It's all about the money... I bet dealership would be happy to upgrade, if it get's paid for the service. Under warranty it should be distributor that is paying, but... they are just not willing to, unless customer has some issue.
  17. I think you would gain much more by replacing the Focal amp to something with DSP, like Match M-5DSP and tuning using sound processor. I still don't get why you are getting sound, that is "almost worse than stock". Maybe your garage messed something up during installation? Have they set the gain correctly? Crossover setting? Have you checked all of that? Maybe would be worth to try Focal's speaker simulator/dummy load, to lower built in amp's distortion?
  18. Depends on the manufacturer. Looking at this XO pics you attached, to me it seems to be 12dB electrical filter. Then again, it's hard to be sure without schematics. Maybe not in this case, i don't know. But it's quite common to have a notch filter on a tweeter. This allows for "cutting" it fair bit lower. Maybe we're talking about different things, but notch filter is calculated based on Fs of the speaker. http://www.mh-audio.nl/Calculators/NFC.html ""Most drivers benefits from using notch filters, specially tweeters and midranges where the component values can be kept small. Using this filter on bass drivers calls for very large (and expensive) components." I have ordered Focal's to my car. Let's see how they sound when i get them and have some time to install. I still have to install mats in the rear doors, and planning to do it while installing speakers. If i have some time, i'll try to take some measurements before and after with my UMIK1.
  19. I wouldn't call it "extremely crappy", but yes, it is general perception. It 's a mix of how our ears work, car accoustics and components used. It might seem as a paradox, but it's much easier to build a system that sounds good at high level, than one that sounds good at low levels. In theory in VAG cars there's EQ, that should be managing this to some extent, but bumping the highs and lows at low levels, but it's not very effective. Probably they didn't want to overdo it. It works more or less the same, as "loudness" function that was hated by many. Sound deadening of the doors should help, as well as replacing at least the tweeters, which are really crappy. According to specs both are 2nd order filters. Second cap might be part of a notch filter, which is commonly used with Focal speakers, due to having rigid cone of the tweeter. It's there to remove possible cone resonance frequency, hence limiting distortion. I have actually built active speaker set using Focal TC90TD5 as part of my thesis.
  20. To be honest i think there's not much "active" about this EQ. It's probably just a set of pre-programmed EQ settings dependent on speaker frequency response, it's impadance, amplifier limitations and volume. It's there to compensate for speaker deficiencies, but also limit speaker distortions and amp clipping. Having a similar load impedance curve should help to avoid amp clipping. I might be wrong though. Issues with using amp with high level inputs might come from the fact, that every amp has rather high distortion at very low power levels. But again - might be wrong though, am not really into car audio area. Don't know what load is presented by amp like Focal Impulse. I know, that Focal is selling "Speaker Simulator", which is a dummy load to be used in conjunction with Impulse amp. I know, that many people are replacing their factory fitted speakers in different VAG cars with Focals, and majority is happy with their sound, describing it as improvement, although to a different degree. Probably requires fiddling with EQ, but factory speakers also do, so... As for Leon - VAG is mostly using same components with different software. Many things could probably be unlocked, but question is if it's easy to do? Might be, that to have 5 way EQ, you would have to change settings of your MIB3 unit to present itself as Leon or A3. Question is, if that would work properly with other components set to Skoda? Hard to say really. What i know for sure, is that they are messing up a lot with software. Previously i had Ateca with Beats Sound System. Ordered Beats, as i wanted best possible factory sound. Well, it was a mistake. Turned out, that my version was only one without DSP (Sound Focus option). Normal sound system had DSP no matter which headunit there was, Beats with Navi High (the one with HDD) had DSP, and Beats with Navi without HDD was the only one that didn't have it, although technically it was possible, as headunit was the same as with normal sound system, that had it, and amp was same as in Beats with Navi High option. Either way system turned out to be worse than normal system. Only thing it did better was ability to play louder, but otherwise frequence response was more or less the same, sub didn't have basically any effect, and imaging was worse due to lack of DSP. So yes, VAG MIB capabilities are 99% software dependent.
  21. I'm assuming adaptive EQ should not be a big problem, as impedance curve should be similar, except of course for different peak in Fs area. Focal is selling those speakers as dedicated for i.e. Golf 8, which has exactly same MIB3 unit (thus also amp) as O4. Guessing they know, what they are doing, but let's see Adaptive EQ can be a bigger problem in case of using external high level input amp without dummy load. I'm not looking for anything bassy, just want a bit deeper bass extension. According to Focal IS VW 165 goes down to 60Hz -3dB, but i assume it will go a bit lower in dampened doors. Should be enough to hear some of that bass guitar, but not for organ music Cap is already there in case of Focal's separate sets, so no problem here. It's plug and play using stock cabling and plugs. My thinking is that Focal will be plug and play, and should be improvement from stock speakers. First of all due to much better speaker quality, and second due to bigger mid-bass in the front (hopefully it fits). I was actually surprised, as new Leon sounds much, much better in stock than O4. Recently checked, and it has same sh*ty drivers, just that mid-bass is 20cm instead of 15,5 in O4. Additionally Leon has 5 way EQ vs 3way in O4, which also helps. But difference is really huge. If i can get similar quality as stock in Leon, i will be pleased. As said before - for "critical listening" i has rather nice set at home.
  22. Of course soldering new cables to existing ones is another option, but i just wanted to show how Focal speakers can be made plug and play I'm not planning to use mids. A bit too much hassle for my taste. Adding mids means adding crossover, which means running new cabling to tweeter (if it's meant to be done right), would be also good to add some amp, dsp which can be tuned etc. Respect everyone that does that, but it's just too much hassle for me I have deadened door inside and it already made a big difference. Now even the stock system sounds more or less ok. But it can be better, and it lacks at the bottom end. I'm hoping that simple speaker replacement to those Focals will improve bass extension and sound quality in general, which it should. MAYBE in the future i will add some PnP amp, but am not sure yet.
  23. One question - do you have ACC enabled? Behind the steering wheel there's a lever for ACC. You need to pull it to switch ACC on. If it's on, than check what is shwoing on the dashboard. Might be, that for some reason someone changed mode to limiter instead of ACC.
  24. Thanks for the heads up, but i already know about the connector, as was studying the photos and documentation It's actually easy to work around this. Either one can make an adapter to leave factory cabling intact, or replace the connector on car side. Connector needed for Focal speakers is 1J0972704. Connector in the car uses same contacts, but in different plug. So it's one possibility - buy 2 of those plugs and just move the connectors with cables. Another possibility is buy 2x 1J0972704 and 2x 1J0972712. 1J0972712 is a socket for factory plug used in Octavia. This way one can make own adapter. Only question is about speaker sizes. But i have decided i will buy one 165mm version and one 155mm version. 155 will fit for sure, but i'll try with 165. If 165 fits in the front, a will use it, and install 155mm in the back. If however 165mm doesn't fit, will try it in the back. If no luck, we just install 155mm for the front for now, and replace 165mm with 155. Will be buying from Amazon, so return should not be an issue. BTW - i took plugs part numbers from ETKA, and they match all the photos i found, so am pretty sure it will work.
