Well still no return to normal so I’ve just sent yet another email to Škoda ‘support for digital services’ let’s see what happens this time…

Yeah the 19” wheels were a bit of a sticking point for me initially and tried the get the dealer to put it on 18” wheels but they were having none of it unfortunately 😂 That said I’ve been surprised by how comfortable the 19” have been, it’s all rather subjective to a degree but they’re not nearly as bad as I was expecting, almost dreading!

Call me a cynic but I think it’s a very shrewd (read cynical) marketing ploy by Škoda, I think most people would opt for a heated front screen if it was available alone for £200 say but they want an extra £600/700 (I can’t remember now) for the winter plus pack.

I can’t (to date at least) fault them, I’ve never been flashed by oncoming traffic so can only presume it’s working as intended. I was originally about to place an order for an SEL but when I discovered I could get a SportLine for a comparable price with the added extras, including the LED light pack, which if I remember correctly was an almost £2000 extra with the SEL so I went with the SportLine. One of the things that surprised me with the SEL was that all of the internal lighting was still filament bulbs, not a dealbreaker in itself but surprising on a brand new 2023 car.

Unfortunately you couldn’t order just a heated front screen when I placed my order last November, you could only get it as part of a pack that included heated rear seats. I already have heated front seats and heated washer jets so I was a bit annoyed I couldn’t just get a screen without adding on a whole other ‘winter pack’

What are your main reservations about the matrix LED’s? I have them on my Karoq and must admit after being somewhat sceptical about them they’ve been a revelation in terms of light output and how seamlessly they’ve worked.

Here we go again…🙄 I’ll give it 24 hours before I contact Škoda again, not exactly endearing itself to me or making me want to renew the subscription when it runs out.

@Seasider Thats pretty much verbatim what I got back from Škoda too, I agree the ‘essentials’ moniker seems to cheapen it a little even though the functionality is unchanged.

It’s a pity this isn’t smellivision as the wild garlic smelt amazing.

@Seasider Yes, it happened to me overnight a week or so ago, couldn’t get it working for about 24 hours from the time the app was updated. I contacted Škoda about it and it was working again within 24 hours of contacting them. I tried logging out and back in again but nothing would get it working initially and then when I did finally manage to log back in the image of the car had changed from my model to a pre facelift version. I contacted them again and once more within 24 hours the image of my car had reappeared. So in summary probably worth dropping them an email first off and go from there 👍🏻 I used this email address: *****@*****.tld

You do know that the boot light pulls off so it can be used as a torch . As @DSL says above, the removable boot light was dropped a while back unfortunately.

Thanks again for the replies, I must admit I like the idea of the socket being permanently live, I just wish that was made clear by Škoda either in the handbook or at the socket itself like some Jeep models do.

Thanks all, I’ll start unplugging it if it’s not going to be used for more than a day or so. My experience with all of my cars (of the last 20 years or more that I can remember) has always been that they’ve been switched by the ignition, I’ve never knowingly had a permanent live 12v accessory socket.

I’ve searched this topic both on here and Google and there doesn’t seem to be a definitive answer: some say yes it is, others say either ignition dependant/times out. The reason I ask I have a small VW rechargeable torch permanently plugged into the socket and I obviously don’t want to damage anything or cause any electrical issues, so does anyone know for sure? Not much useful information in the handbook that I can find. Car is a 23 MY SportLine if that makes a difference, thanks.

@w11a I bought a full set of genuine Škoda rubber mats from Caffyns eBay store and have been impressed with how well they cover and fit the footwells with a nice pronounced lip around the outer edges to keep any dirt, water etc on the mat. They were also by far the cheapest supplier I could find.

@croquemonsieur I do agree that the throttle response in 1st from a standstill is far more sensitive and can make a smooth standing start more challenging than in most other cars I’ve encountered. Is this a ‘characteristic’ of modern Škoda/VAG engines possibly? I could certainly pull away smoothly in my 1973 Type 3 Fastback 😂👴🏻

Although mine’s a manual I’ve so far found autohold releases seamlessly, completely smooth and instant.

Without meaning to state the obvious but have you checked that the tyre pressures are correct? I’ve been quite surprised by how comfortable my 19” rims with the same tyre size as you have been so far.

Update: Just opened the app and it appears to now be working, as mentioned above by @Kenny R the app has updated and now goes by a new name, My Škoda ‘Essentials’ All of my data has been preserved but the image on my front page of the app has changed from an image of my actual model/colour to a white pre-facelift model. Nothing major but a slight annoyance all the same, I wonder if that will right itself too?
