  1. When you say you managed to break it within 5 minutes. Did you just pull it down and it broke?
  2. In their defence the price of workshop and car spares have gone up significantly this year
  3. Unfortunately insurance companies have shareholders to pay. They have to have a bigger turnover every year to keep up with inflation They know what they paid out the previous year so will take steps to cover that They also know that a percentage of renewals will lapse because of the increase so will add on for that too. They also have a database linked to each other so now it appear even using comparison sites doesn't help much.. This year is the first year i have searched and not found one quote lower than my renewal price (that is suspicious)
  4. Accidents affect your policy risk irrespective of who is to blame. Also a No claim bonus is not a no blame bonus If you have a protected NCB it also does not stop the price going up. You will keep the percentage discount but it will be off the "new" premium before any added options you previously added are put on. My insurance with no activity this year has gone up 29%
  5. Maybe? might have led to a review of all covers?
  6. If helps, using the fuel computer in my car i avge 34.6 mpg On my trip to devon this year i left the house with a full tank and a range of 426. as i went down the motorway the range increased to a point where i had done over 100 mile and had range left more than i left home with, i seem to remember it reaching 500 miles as i travelled.
  7. The best way to check mpg is keeping mileage readings and fuelling the car Full tank to full tank. If the predicted range was based upon your computers current age mpg status The range changes if the avge drops. You can toggle between current consumption, Average consumption and range. If you leave it on Current consumption you can see the figure rise to 99.9mpg whilst going down hill and down to below 20mpg going up. A true average of 60 -70 mpg would be fantastic for a 1.9 diesel but i imagine involves many motorway miles. Hones john customer real mpg reviews. car handbook https://ownersmanuals.blob.core.windows.net/ownersmanuals/en/Octavia_1Z/05-2007/OwnersManual.pdf
  8. Why not just wait for the results of the investigation. I am intrigued that you think the Fire investigators will only have access to the public database for Tax and Mot status. Could they not possibly have access to registration document details? And the ability to talk to the owner? In cases were ev's have caught fire the drivers have been seen to rush to the press with their story, haven't seen that yet either. As i said earlier i am not discounting the hybrid possibility but would now be very surprised if it turned out to be the case
  9. I am new to the forum, don't currently own a Skoda. But in 45 years of driving and i have owned some pretty old bangers, i have never had a car that has used that much oil.
  10. Not sure if i am allowed to link vendors on this site. but if you google search Android Auto Sat Nav GPS CarPlay for skoda superb you should find what you are looking and videos of how they can look as if they were there originally.
  11. I would be surprised if three days after the event, with all the speculation about an ev element being involved, that the fire brigade would issue a statement saying it was determined to be diesel powered if it was actually a Diesel/hybrid? Do you not think they would be accused of covering the fact up? Would they take that gamble?
  12. Today's update 13/10 "The investigation into the cause of the fire continues, but it has been determined that the vehicle that first caught fire was a diesel car. Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s fire investigation team will be working closely with Bedfordshire Police to get a better understanding of what happened on Tuesday evening, and why." https://www.bedsfire.gov.uk/news/london-luton-airport-car-park-fire
  13. I understand that Larks green in Bristol is the first to be "Grid" connected earlier this year. https://www.nationalgrid.com/uks-first-transmission-connected-solar-farm-goes-live "Until now, all of the UK’s solar farms have connected to the country's distribution networks – the lower voltage regional grids that carry power from the high-voltage transmission network to homes and businesses. Connecting solar power directly to National Grid's transmission network marks a significant step in the renewable energy transition, allowing clean energy to be transported over greater distances and opening a gateway for larger projects to connect to the grid."
  14. It's an age thing. I don't use my phone for the car apart from hands free. The under 35's tend to control their whole life with the phone.
  15. If you connect your phone to use apple car play or android auto it can probably harvest data from social media apps you have. You would need to read what "permissions" you were giving the Car's media entertainment unit.
  16. Sorry if this has appeared before but the thread has had a lot. I might have missed it.
  17. Yes, it looks black on my screen
  18. Is the black cap not plastic and you can take it off by hand?
  19. With my car (A Ford not a Skoda) having the dedicated wiring meant i also don't have that annoying extra lamp or buzzy thing to let me know the trailer is indicating. The cars bulb monitoring system tells me which bulb is out on the trailer.
  20. With it having a DSG i would take the warranty, £849 for three years peace of mind is worth it.
  21. I had a detachable towbar fitted 5 years ago with Vehicle specific wiring and it was around £500 so i imagine up to around £1000 now. Universal wiring is cheaper but i personally prefer VSW That was 13 pin electrics I used Indespension https://towbars.indespension.com/ I think these need details to ring you back. they may have a branch near you. Another recommended place would be Towsure they deliver to your house and then arrange fitment from a mobile fitter. if you look here you will get an idea of price without contact https://www.towsure.com/towbars Whatever options you choose there i think the Indespension company would beat the towsure one on price

  23. I am thinking if i do buy an Ev i may carry one of these in the boot
