  1. I tow with a Mk 3 hatchback 1.5TSi DSG and go by the fuel flap notice 2.5 bars front and 3.2 bars rear. Boy is that hard when travelling a short distance at those pressures. I always adjust my pressure before and after towing - you see very few people on campsites doing the same. They either tow with under inflated tyres or drive while on camp on over inflated tyres. Neither is good for the tyres or safety.
  2. My Octavia is due the Cam Belt change this November. Is it right that the Water Pump is now no longer driven by the Cam Belt on 67 plate models (mine is a 1.5 TSi DSG ACT registered as new in November 2017)? If the Water Pump is not driven by the Cam Belt does the WP need to be changed?
  3. This may sound daft but most Skoda Octavias are built for left hand drive and have only one fog light bulb fitted. UK spec Octavias have an additional one fitted for right hand drive so although you pointed to the reflector in each tail light cluster are you absolutely sure a bulb if fitted at both locations as your pictures don't show a bulb.
  4. I'm confused now. If my expansion tank doesn't have "mit silikat" on it does this mean that it does not have either the "tea bag" silicate or the separate silicate container built into it?
  5. I rarely use stop/start unless on motorways with roadworks which is quite often these days. I find its is so more relaxing and am constantly amazes at how many miles can be covered using stop/start combined wit ACC without touching the brake or accelerator at all.
  6. I recently drove from Hampshire to Westbury in Wiltshire in quite thick at orange fog and sandy rain. It was sand blown from the Sahara apparently. I didn't realise, until then, that the SatNav actually shows fog. As as the day wore on and the fog cleared so the features on the SatNav appeared. During the drive the fog showed as a light grey with the route picked out in it. I've had a Skoda with SatNav for years and never knew it could do this. It's not particularly useful, but interesting. I'm wondering if this came from a recent map update or has always been there and I just hadn't noticed it.
  7. Do European Skodas have both rear fogs or is an extra fog fitted to UK models and the original fitting de-activated?
  8. The pictures show the outside edge of both my front tyres, Bridgestones, as fitted when the car was bought new in November 2017. They have covered 22000 miles and are more than 70% worn. As I will be replacing them soon should I worry about the cause of the cracks indicated or is it to be expected? There are fewer but similar cracks on the rear tyres. Would the car benefit from having the tracking adjusted? Is 4 wheel tracking possible on an SEL with torsion bar rear suspension?
  9. As I need to replace one of my fog-light bulbs in my 2017 SE L is there a suitable (legal) LED bulb available?
  10. Does a 2017 1.5TSi ACT DSG require a cam belt change like (the majority) of diesels mentioned when the topic of cam belts comes up? I'm not so much bothered about the time interval between changes just does my car require a cam belt to be changed regularly?
  11. I'm not sure how people know the Skoda (VW) SatNav is not very good. If it sends you the wrong way on a route you know why are you using SatNav? Personally I set up my destination on the SatNav then use it for the bit I don't know - normally the end of the journey. As I am normally towing a caravan when using the SatNav I check the route beforehand, on Google, to iron out any potential problems - any problems I have encountered have been when I thought I knew best and ignored the lady - usually I am wrong.
  12. I am due a tyre change soon. Would uprating my 225 x 45 R17 to say 235 (or wider) x 45 R17 give me a smoother ride in my 2017 1.5 TSi DSG Octavia? Also would this help reduce the occasional tramping when pulling away on slightly greasy surfaces?
  13. This may be a stupid question but did you download the map directly to your SD card or did you extract the files to your SD card? The maps from the portal are compressed files and need to be extracted to the SD card.
  14. I keep the weight over the caravan axle and in the car behind the front seats if possible to keep the weight between the axles. I only tow an Elddis 422 2 berth with a 1.5 DSG Octavia but |I am very impressed with its towing capabilities. I keep a 6kg and 1 3.pkg bottle in the caravan locker and the whole unit tows very well and is very stable.
  15. I never mentioned this. I have enabled rear DRL's with VCDS. @john999boy & @PetrolDave The caravan ignores the DRL setting. I would just like the caravan tail lights to come on if the cars DRL's are on.
  16. My caravan has filament bulbs and my 2017 1.5TSi DSG Octavia monitors these OK. I haven't yet bought any, but would the Octavia accept monitoring the trailer lights if the bulbs were LED's?
  17. Is there a VCDS mod to allow the trailer lights to come on as DRL's? I know I can just turn the sidelights on to get trailer lights but I just wondered. It would be handy to have rear DRL's on the trailer with the rear DRL's on the car not illuminated.
  18. What's the belt driven device below the alternator 2017 Octavia Mk. 3 1.5TSi DSG Hatch?
  19. I've read with interest your troubles with this car and think if I had had a quarter of the problems you have had I would have gone back to a bicycle. The real problem here is if you are unfortunate enough to buy a lemon it remains a lemon. I hope your next vehicle, whatever make, is a lot more satisfactory. Good luck.
  20. With the possibility of sounding stupid is it only diesel engines that need the cam belt change as the replies from TSi owners in this thread are as rare as rocking horse sh y te!? I have a November 2017 1.5TSi SEL DSG Hatch. Does it have a chain or a belt? 21. I'm puzzled by your query as I have a November 2017 1.5 SEL DSG and I have this because my order was made around August 2017 originally for a 1.4 SEL DSG and I changed the order because the 1.5 engine was announced and available in the UK. I don't understand how a 2016 model can have a 1.5 engine. If you have ACC it tells you on the screen something like "ACC activated" comes up. Definitely three stalks.
  22. I've been towing a two berth caravan bigger than yours with the hatchback version of the Octavia 1.5 TSi DSG. It tows a dream. You are well inside the noseweight limit. No vibration when two cylinders kick in or out with ACT. My caravan now is an Xplore 422 before that a Firestorm 450/2 both well within the capabilities of the 1.5TS1 engine. Mine is a DSG I've never towed with a manual. Used to tow the Firestorm with a 1.9TDi DSG Hatch and later a 1.9TDiDSG Estate and had my doubts about the 1.5TSi but have been pleasantly surprised.
  23. I tow a 2020 Xplore caravan with a 2017 1.5TSI DSG Hatch and, as a poster above said, I too sometimes almost forget the caravan is there so good is the Octavia for towing. Before I bought the 1.5 I had a 2 litre TDI DSG Estate also excellent towing vehicle although towing or solo the hatch gives the better ride.
