1. If anything a remap would give more problems , flexing the crankshaft more with incereased torque for one. Probably not great for the dual mass flywheel assembly if your're putting more torque through. Would a remap, reduce the possibility of burning oil? I'm considering the possibility that it is the oil itself that i purchased from what a distributer that i trusted for years but as a replied in a previous thread, may have just seen the € sign my head. I'm thinking of waiting until the 40K miles mark and put her in for a big service and switch the indicator to fixed from variable because i don't do huge mileage ! Thanks for your input
2. I'm thinking it might be the oil itself. I went to a VW sepcialist and bought AC DELCO. The next time, i think i'l do a bit more research myself and not trust the motor factor that at the end of the day just sees €€€€ when you walk in through the door..:thumbdwn: Would you recommend a good long life oil ? I do appreciate that there are big brands out there, but sometimes just because you have a sticker on your container, doesn't really mean you've bought the better quality...I've trusted this fella for a few years now, but this was the 1st time buying long life vw spec oil. . i had a pd ASZ 110 previously. I think he may have let me down this time. !!
3. Thanks for that. It'l be fine until 40K miles and then i'l give it a service and if "shes" good, a surprise !!
4. Yes i bought it @ 26 K miles, serviced it @ 33K and plan to keep it on a regular service of 8k from now on instead of variable which it was on. But the computer still assumes its on a variable, so @ the 40K mile service i'll send it into the garage to get a full service and the brake fluid changed. as well as getting the service changed. By the way, i used AC DELCO long life oil, VW spec . its .505 or .507
5. just approaching 37 thousand miles I don't think that its coincidental that the service light came on eventhough i never got it reset after the last service. I think the trip burned the oil, changed the vicosity of it and set the indicator off. There is a more pronounced burnt smell of the oil and i have since topped the level up with the same oil in an attempted see whether the indicator turned off, but once it activates it may need to be reset at the garage. I've heard of touregs burning long life oil like theres no tomorrow, but i've never heard of any reports of the passat, golf or octavia with the pd 170 burning so quick. ? ! ?
6. Morning all, i was dropping friends to the airport on friday night and i did a 400 mile round trip. I was flying it mostly around 80 ish . I must admit that on the way home i had it sitting at 120 mph for a good half hour on the motorway ! The next day when o started up the car, a service indicator came up saying "service in 600 miles or 124 days" . I was stunned as i only service it 4k ago and used long life oil. I checked the oil and it had indeed used a fair bit (About 1ltr) during the previous nights spin. As i had checked oil before i left and everything was fine. Does the fact that the long life oil is so thin, does it burn easier ? Has anyone experienced such rapid burning of long life oil ? Has anyone else had the service indicator come on so quickly after a service ? Thanks
7. I wouldn't mind de-activating it either ! I was lifting a fairly heavy vacum chamber into the boot,so i opened the boot, left my bottle of water and keys down on the boot floor, picked up the chamber, placed it in the boot, took out my bottle of water, closed the boot, walked to drivers door, then realised i had no keya, turned to walk to the boot and BEEP !! No fecking keys :rotz: It's not really the end of the worls BUT i live in Mayo..............and i was in Cork City (5 hour drive away) Such a pain in the backside
8. Well when the door is initialy opened i.e once it's opened passed the latch on the B-pillar, it drops quite considerately. I havn't had time to go and look at it but from what others have been saying, its a top hinge that needs replacing. !! We'll just have to see the craic on saturday
9. Was hoping to do them myself . A friend of mine who is a mechanic in monaghan did it to his golf BUT he's in Oz and i'm not phoning him to ask him that !!! Thing is, they are getting quite bad and are clashing with the B-Pillar, so if i can't do anything with them, it looks like i might need new hinges.:thumbdwn: SWMBO doesn't get the concept of closing the door gently or lifting it while you close it until i get it sorted... However, she does get the idea of repeatedly banging the door closed until she build up enough momentum with the door so that it lifts up onto the latch on the B-pillar. Heading to the bodyshop is not an option i'm familiar with. D...I...Y...:P
10. Hello All, I'm wondering has anyone any experience of raising doors that have dropped, becausethey are clashing quite severely with the lock and i could do without replacing them. Thanks

17. :shhh: Don't tell anyone, BUT theres **** all of a difference between the maxi-dot on my car to the one one yours. Same as Golf , Passat & SUPERB !! And i can tell ya that VAG havn't overhauled the maxidot system in the mk2 superb even if there is a viual difference in the MFD display. !! Even if yours has the new edition with the seperate kmph display. Sure ya can get that displayed on the climatronic unit, the info is being acquired from the same source !!
18. Mine is the Vrs and in the maxi-dot i don't have the option to lock doors above 10mph?? I walking home early from work to double check

21. I kid you not. i recently saw a set of Bentley rims on an A4 but i thought they would be sexual on my octy.. Never was into bling rims but i'd give in for these. I'l try and find the pic again and i'l update the thread.. Heres the white A4 with bentleys http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/994224.htm
22. WHY ?? Manual Is more economical, definately quicker (in the bends), and more fun (when your in the mood for a ragging) . DSG has been prone to problems, Jamming in park, unable to unlock especially if pressure is on it if parked on a slope. Personally the likes of DSG, Tip-tronic, and Flappy-Paddle Shifts, are wasted on road cars. Where are you going to really need the likes of paddle-shift ......on a straight motorway?!?!?! I was driving a CL 6.3 AMG last friday at a wedding ... Scarily quick and fair enough i was quite pleased to have the paddle shift at hand, to slow her down for some of the corners, but it;s not everyday you drive one of them and secondly its not everyday you rag a car through Irish country lanes at ridiculus sppeds. So save yourself a few quid or put it into another extra that maybe you were sitting on the fence about getting. MFD3, auto-lights, who knows. Anyway, best of look in whatever road you choose.
23. 50 K ALREADY...!!! Jaysus, you must have a sore back from all that driving ? I do about 10K per Anum , and the rest of the time it's parked underground avoiding gardai On a serious note, it's a pity you have so many faults, but would any of them ( engine wise ) have to do with the fact that the engine was broken in SO quickly, and i presume it's a Fleet car and your not hanging around in it to warm up in the morning, BUT esprcially letting it idle for a minute or so after a long trip to cool down the turbo unit. Hope you sort out your probs soon and get back to enjoying the car ! Regards
