My dad always used to say to me, What's cheaper, a gallon of oil or a new engine.

I changed my gearbox oil at 60.000 miles just for piece of mind as i was not the original owner, I bought some Castrol Taf-x 75/90 grade from Opie oils. The gearbox took 2.5 ltrs and you will need a 17mm hex socket for filling and a M16 splined socket for draining.

You are not wrong there, best car i have ever had,but you have to keep on top of things to keep it running sweet, and am i glad i bought the AWX model.

I have had them on my last two cars, have done fast trips across Europe and never had any problems,They are classed as a mid range tyre,I think they are better than that.

Workmanship can be a bit questionable at times, do you want your sump plug cross threaded for the cost of a cheapish oil change.

What is the best oil for my 2003 1.9 TDI 90BHP
roman.w replied to mrhclarke's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
My brother runs a 90 bhp octavia and he uses any semi synth which is the correct spec, on that engine i think it is VW 505.00, usually a 10w/40 grade. -
VW spec 506.01 tends to be 0w/30 and 507.00 is 5w/30, By the way i went into my local ASDA today, they have sacked MOBIL and have filled the shelves with CASTROL.
-
The spec should be VW504.00[petrol] and 507.00[diesel].

I had my superb's cambelt and waterpump done at Volkservice for £299 just over two years ago, they seem to be on the ball and do not mess you about, I have never had any complaints and would use them again. -
The latest i heard was that Castrol had won the contract for the factory fill, it used to be Fuchs.

Just use a household glass cleaner two or three times, that will shift it and do not forget to clean the blades.
