  1. So is it common for this to whine (like me atm!) and raise/lower in tone with the revs Dennis? Sorry to push for an answer its just atm I'm getting conflicting reports from one dealer/mechanic to the next(one says it sounds like a belt, another says its the turbo on its way out and the latest says its the charcoal filter so finding a 'FINAL' answer is nigh on impossible.
  2. Cheers Liverpool-Lad. I was just puzzled how something designed to clean the air in the cabin whined and raised/lowered in pitch with the revs of the car:confused: Especially as its only just started doing it! Its definatley NOT a rattling/tapping sounds more like a whistling/whine. So I guess I have nothing to worry about afterall?? This is a normal occurance with other octy users then?
  3. So it should not 'whine' when the revs rise or when boosting:confused:
  4. Ok, I've taken the car to another dealer who have given me a different 'fault'. They are saying its the 'active charcoal filter' What is this? What does it do? Should it make a sound (hasn't done so before) and should it be replaced if it is making the sounds reported above? Anyone had this problem before, if it is indeed a problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Well I have just spoken to the 'service parts manager' at the dealer and he says the mechanic/chief tech cannot find ANYTHING wrong with the car:confused: . He says the car will make some noise as it has moving components etc etc etc. When questioned why JBS had said otherwise and why the noise was not there before he could not answer except that they were not going to do anything as they could not find a problem. The noise definatley WAS NOT there before - its a new noise as described above - FACT The mechanic when I first took it in admitted it was a 'strange' noise and would investigate/rectify - FACT JBS suggested it was probably either a bearing fault or a crack on the turbo - FACT They have basicly said as they can find no problem even though they admitted there was a noise (normal?) they can't/won't do anything a they don't deem it a problem 'noise'. When I asked if my turbo blows up a week after the warranty period it was made clear that it would be my problem not theres as it would be out of warranty then. At this I started becomming a little irate and made a suggestion that as my warranty was almost up they are just trying to draw it out and they said that the warranty is with Skoda, not them, so they are not trying to wriggle out of it. When I said the warranty is with YOU as the car is modified and therefore against the skoda warranty making it void they said I was incorrect - skoda will warrant the car regardless of the modifications. WHAT??? News to me! As I was getting no-where with that guy I asked to speak to the service parts manager's manager based in Sheffield who has suggested I leave it with them and get the skoda rep to have a listen, a much nicer guy tbh but I still feel I am just being passed off PLEASE HELP as I'm unsure of what to do next - warranty is out on the 23rd March. One seriously peed off Skoda driver here:mad:
  6. True:) . I just don't want to have the fear of it going again after another 30k - hopefully its just a one off and not the remap thats boosting too much. Anyway its in now and they are working on it as I type. I'll post back with the actual fault they find. Cheers.
  7. hmm...so I get a 1 week warranty.:thumbdwn: Cheers for the advice anyway mate.
  8. My thoughts exactly - legal representation will be sought if not. Yeah it would appear so. I aint gonna relax though until I have picked the car up with the issues fixed. My next concern though is that if it has only taken 30k for a turbo to die(if it is indeed the turbo) how long will the next one last. I have treat this turbo with kid gloves - proper warm up and cool down procedures done throughout its life - maybe I should abuse this one as it might last longer. Also does anyone know how long the new turbo will be covered for, I'm guessing it wont be for another 3 years? And should they fit a new turbo or a recon one? Many thanks in advance.
  9. Helps getting a letter from the manager that the engine mods they put on the car will be covered under there own 3yr warranty - one of the things I bargained for when buying the car in the first place. So glad I did now!
  10. Well my worst fears were realised - it is indeed the turbo or at the very least boost related. Jbs had a look round and although at first a little bemused (a suggestion was made that it was interference from the stereo lol:rolleyes:) , they eventually diagnosed a 'problem' with the turbo/boost:( - i think liked the radio suggestion better tbh. As it is still under warranty (yes even WITH the mods - GL authorised them as it was a demo car) I took it up to them to have a look. They don't seem to think it is the turbo but rather a leaking pipe:confused:, either way its booked in with skoda on friday as the warranty runs out next week so it needs sorting one way or the other. I just want to give it some now I have the brakes to make it stop (thanks Gaz-Jbs) but with a possible dodgy turbo I am nervous if I so much as think about pushing my foot down:mad:
  11. RS6 replicas here - been so for the last 2 yrs and they are still round:rofl:
  12. Ok, I've just run the car with clutch down and its still making the noise so I guess that eliminates the gearbox. On a plus note I've just realised its still under warranty, first reg'd(23/03/04) so I'll take it down to dealers and pray lol. Glad it happened now and not in 2 weeks.
  13. Nah this sounds like what I can describe as a police siren(US) but very faint - like someone whistling very low (or high) but very quietly, raising or lowering with revs. It has made absolutley no difference to power delivery or gear change, no smoke - totally foxxing me but also concerning if you catch my drift. Thx for the suggestions so far.
  14. I'll give it a go when I get home. I don't know whats worse - turbo or gearbox - either way its looking expensive. Had false hopes it was gonna be a split hose or something simple like that:(
  15. Thought it may be the gearbox but it also does it in neutral - rising in pitch with revs. Anyone?:(
  16. I've noticed recently a couple of noises that are giving me cause to worry. Symptoms: When pulling away lightly (turbo not even spooling) I am getting what can only be described as a low pitch whistle/whine which rises in pitch with accelerator movement/revs until I get to '0' boost. From 0-10psi I don't hear anything but the turbo spooling up. ...above 10psi to full boost 19psi I again here the whistle but this time much higher in pitch, rising with increased psi. It is barely noticable but it ISN'T my imagination as even the wife noticed it when prompted. It also isn't the turbo spooling as it has only become apparent in the last 2k or so. Car has done 30k. Serviced every 10k. No smoke. Boosts amazaing as always and holds boost fine. Is my turbo dying, is it something else - do I need to worry? Its going in for a service next week and I'll ask JBS to take a look but I want to be prepared.
  17. As stated above atmospheric dumpvalves are not recommended. Go for a forge007p re-circ valve (with yellow spring iirc). I got my ABD CAI fitted for apx
  18. Mines been back to the dealer to have new rad mounts fitted twice now. The symptoms suggest that this is the case. For a deffo answer then open the bonnet and give the radiator a little shake (obviously when cold/luke warm), if it squeeks thats your problem. The mounts are difficult to replace as it means a bumper and rad removal apperently. The mounts themselves cost about £2 but I'd h8 to see the labour charge. Gets worse in warm weather. Mine got to the point that it squeeked everytime I went over a slight bump or even shutting the drivers door. Hope this helps.
  19. I wanted the WRC spoiler for the octy...not so sure now. At least you had the balls to do it and if you like it who cares eh?
  20. The rubber mounts can also sag causing excessive play in the exhuast. Mine will rattle too at low revs and that is my problem (I think).
  21. Had my replicas for 2 yers now..no pitting or defects and still like the day I got them, which is more than can be said for 'named' brands (wolfrace) in my experience.
  22. I had a clifford concept 600 and it DID NOT have a turbo timer as standard. A turbo timer CAN be fitted at an additional cost which will then invalidate its thatcham approval. As posted its much easier (and safer) to drive 'normally' a couple of miles before you thrash it and afterwards to allow the engine to warm up and turbo to cool down respectively. Just my 2c;)
  23. Its the radiator mounts imo. Had the same symptoms on my RS, replaced under warrenty and now its back again 6 months l8r.:(
