  1. A nice clean yesterday. Nothing wildly different from my initial post, but I didn't need to use fallout remover and I also paid quite a lot of attention to the glass. I just wanted to highlight this new gadget I picked up; Forensic Detailing - Halfords Window Cleaner Absolutely awesome! Made it a much easier and more pleasant task. I, like John in the vid, always found the internal side of a windscreen to be a nightmare to do, so this was a welcome addition to my detailing kit! It was really useful for the inside of the sunroof, as well as all of the exterior glass.
  2. How much is this kind of work, roughly?
  3. Having left polish on black trim myself, recently, I'll be raiding the kid's stationary later to do this! Cheers.
  4. Out of interest, Phil, what website did you use to get the info based on your VIN? Cheers
  5. Hey all. I'm considering buying a Cat S write off from the salvage auctioneers Copart. The intention is to break it and use some parts to tidy up my existing Octavia. Has anyone bought from Copart before? How was that experience? I'm reading quite a lot of negativity elsewhere online, but much of it concerns the US company. Thanks in advance
  6. Wherever you take it for a service, ask for a printout of the service record.
  7. Looks great! Welcome! You're just down the road from me, too, so many we will pass one another some day!
  8. I have a MIB1 Columbus and while it has a big screen and the sat nav is fine, it's starting to look a bit dated at 8 years old. I am considering this as an option, as I recuperate more than that by selling the Columbus unit, and a MIB2/2.5 will set me back nearly £1k. It seems to do an awful lot for little money.
  9. I saw! I'm very jealous...dragon green with envy. I'll join you in the Superb club one day! Enjoy.
  10. +1 vote for this. It's not a rare spec, colour or model. You probably won't need to be too patient until another suitable car comes up.
  11. Yeah, from what I'm told it was originally by a Skoda dealership director, and they used it to showcase the new mk3 model, so money was thrown at it! He/she obviously wasn't a big music lover though :P Aye, I've got the OBD11 dongle and have coded a few things already. Hopefully I can sort the AFSII issue out as well! Cheers fella.
  12. My seatbelt is also fine. Phew. Having played with the holder (what's left of it!), I think a previous driver had it set too low for their height.
  13. Cheers bud. I feel confident enough to put the LEDs back in now I know it was the OBD11 causing the funny sound. It proper **** me up!
  14. Cheers! It came up locally and is a pretty rare find, in this spec, I think. From what I can tell, it has; Sunroof Columbus screen Parking assistant Xenons Heated seats Heated front screen Heated washer nozzles Spacesaver Detachable towbar Cornering fogs DRLs LED rears High beam control & rain sensor I think it may have crew assist/rear airbags too, but not 100% sure how to check without inflating them! haha. Also not sure whether it has the Bluetooth signal boost extra (how to tell?). I'm currently tidying up some of the paintwork issues (nothing major, but giving it some TLC) and doing a few minor modifications to personalise it a little. I do love these cars! Kessy and Canton are the only significant omissions (the latter very significant to me after having one in my previous vRS, but I'll fit a 3rd party system soon enough).
  15. Plugged the dongle in and I got the crackling sound in the door cards. Definitely OBD11.
  16. Cheers. I thought it might be the dongle too, but couldn't find anything after a quick search. I'll explore this more today. Re: canbus. That's what I have read, but there are quite a few posts suggesting that the door warning lights need coding. I'm unsure what is correct. I've just driven to work with the original light bulbs and sat with the ignition on for a while. No problems thus far. I'll stick the dongle in shortly to see if it's that.
  17. One additional thing: I didn't change all the interior lights, as I was yet to do the glovebox one. I did read that it might be a case of replacing all bulbs or none, with LEDs, to avoid confusing the system. No idea if there's any truth to that.
  18. Yep, engine off. Ignition off. Lights worked fine until I turned ignition on and then plugged in the OBD11 dongle.
  19. Cheers both. I've put the original bulbs back in now. Will clear the fault code and then replace each one at a time to see what triggers the issue. They are new bulbs, not from my MK2. I'm reading conflicting reports on here as to weather the drivers door warning light needs coding as LED or not...perhaps that's an issue. Yes, the crackling sound was very disconcerting!
  20. Thanks @ords. I'll check the actuator/solenoid out today.
  21. Did anyone attempt this? I've had the same error code thrown at me and have also discovered that the fuel door doesn't lock when the car is locked. Is the repair as big a PITA as @varaderoguysuggests?
  22. Hey all. I attempted my first simple mod today, replacing interior lights with LEDs on a MY13 elegance. I used these, which were recommended on another thread. All seemed OK, but as I was sat in the car I heard a crackling sound (as if coming from the door cards) and the radio dropped signal. Another time the front lights reset and the xenon motors did their thing. My battery low warning light also came up! I've taken the door light LEDs out, but the same happened again. Now, an interesting caveat is that today is also the first time I had used my OBD11 dongle and each time the dongle was inserted. What might I have done wrong here? I installed LEDs in my MK2 the same way without any issues at all. Thanks in advance
  23. Wow, just got to the end of this huge thread...I've read it all! A great project with no stone left un-turned. I'm already several hundred pounds worse off and I'm sure that's just the start Thanks for all the time you invested to make this thread such a great resource for us all. Strangely enough, @SashaGrace has also moved on to the Skoda I intend to get next too; a dragon green sportline. Stunning! I hope you enjoy it. I'm about to order an OBD11 kit. I'm planning to get the basic one and add a pro licence afterwards, but not sure if I'm better served with a 1st or 2nd generation dongle. The latter is twice the price, but I wonder if it's a better option, long term, should OBD decide to discontinue supporting their original line. What does everyone think?
  24. Yeah, I'm going to take a look today. Cheers.
