  1. I fully appreciate the argument about if they get the wrong person. The problem at the moment is if you sue for your properly owed money, get judgment then send in the bailiff, the person at the door says 'got nothing and you can't come in' and the bailiff toddles off. I hear stories of people turning up at court owing 10's of thousands never expecting to pay anyone back a bean (normally wearing designer trainers and complaining about why they should have to pay back for the TV/holiday/car/crap off qvc they have had and enjoyed the benefit of). There is no sense or duty of having to pay debts back and it would be nice to see bailiffs have more power to sort out the debt avoiders
  2. Just a couple of years ago everyone was buying anything and everything.Cars TV's,holidays. These companies should all have had a fortune in the bank after the last 10 years Now everyone is going bust, houses are worth nothing and being reposessed and no one buys cars. Slight turnaround from the good times
  3. It is annoying.Until the penalty is an instant ban people will continue to risk it. Mind you,I remember the days when you didn't have to ring/text your mom/boyfriend/girlfriend/friends every 2 seconds
  4. Chap from Barclays was estimating 35% drop from peak.If so,it's a risk if we are only 20% down at the moment.Only giving themselves 5% of equity to as a cushion If the 35% is right, our £220,000 house will be worth £143,000 having lost £77k. (which in my view is a far more realistic value of it)
  5. Love books.Have been thoroughly disappointed with a few I have read recently. Just read Lords of the Bow by this chap though. Its about Genghis Khan and the Mongol empire. Might sound a bit boring but it was a cracking read.Must get the rest in the series now! Anyone read him or got any other recent recommendations?
  6. Couple of things 1. I think the green thing has had a lot to do with it.It's annoyed me the VED stuff and where as we would have splashed out maybe £30k on new cars every 3 years we won't do that now.If only a 1000 people feel like me,the greenies cost the car industry £30million? Thats a few jobs 2. Did people ever really buy a car? People were taking deals of £299 to buy say a £25000 car with all manner of inventive deals such as lump sum at the end and people just choosing to start over again rather than pay that lump sum.Alternatively lease deals etc There must be an incredible glut of nearly new cars out there.Bet we are awash with cars hence why the second hand prices have bombed too (as well as due to greedy government/green obsession/screw the motorist)
  7. Downside for me is I nose at Briskoda during work. 2008 doesn't look so obvious but 2009 unfortunately attracts attention!
  8. Made by Yardley.Thats a name I haven't heard since the 1970's!
  9. Can't believe the 'lets put ourselves down' Renault Ad...things that you said you'd never do,buy a Renault:D Suppose a bit like Skodas turnaround comedy ads with people diving out the car when they knew it was a Skoda:rofl: Don't know if its tongue in cheek though or serious this one... Made me think though. There are Renaults I do like and actually craved for once Alpine 110 was it? Fuego 5 GT Turbo...any variant. They really did do some crackers once:thumbup:
  10. Well, the government have done very well at killing the car industry.New and used. Just what we need in a recession.Well done chaps
  11. I watched the first one again for the first time in ages.Loved it!.Got number 2 recorded to watch next if I can pursuade the wife to go to bed early so I can have some quality man time:thumbup: From Dusk till Dawn .....started so well then descended into complete farce.Horror/Comedy thing
  12. I've just read the small print. It seems band 'k' will also include our 2.5 litre X trail registered in 2004. Seems that even though it is 226 on emissions it goes in a lower band.It refers to cars reg from 01 to 06 Suppose this is to stop the irate 1.1 million car owners whose tax would more than double from £210 to £430 (this help you or not Quinten?)
  13. Remember a Z8 getting sawn in half.Whats an R11? I liked the Z8!
  14. Bet they regretted that! Going a bit OT now but surely that 750 BMW has to be the most boring Bond car ever!
  15. I was confused for a minute! You mean in the style of Moore doing Templar? As to all of our views on Bond,we all have different ones.I preferred Connery but I understand Bond (in Flemings portrayal) was meant to be far colder/harder/detached. All previous Bonds have just been how the producers like the Bond to come across.Craig is apparantly meant to be quite a bit like Flemings view. And yes,a Bentley,no Astons!
  16. Is it even worth debating? No way will a few pence off most purchases generate the resugence of the (invincible) British economy. Keep thinking 'Titanic'.All of us sailing along merrily in luxury. Suddenly we've hit the iceberg, its chaos and its VAT life rafts and other junk life rafts everywhere, all sadly with big holes in them. Talk about a finger in the dam job....brace youselves for 2009 Pair of idots:mad:
  17. Before Labour ruined the whole economy, was it actually just one figure no matter what car you drove? Just cost you a bit more if you chose 6 months instead of 12? I have gone from someone who once even voted green (partly protest) to detesting every single green/tax rip off with a passion
  18. Revised or not I still feel like kicking a penguin. Anyone who is chuffed about reductions, remember this is just the start of a relentless drive to get us back to the stone age.
  19. Problem would be about £1000 to insure as opposed to approx £300 and servicing and parts.Again a £1000 sevice as opposed to a couple of hundred quid But yes,it might be worth it for extra oomph.Just so incredibly cheap for some quality engineering!
  20. Granted some maybe 1998 onwards but £5,000 to put a Porsche in your garage?! Check the prices on Autotrader.I really cannot believe these cars are cheaper to buy than my MX5 and half the used price of a similar year Lotus Elise The world of used cars has gone a bit barmy ....which could be good:D
  21. Think there were only a few of you What cars have you got now after all these years? Still skodas? Just wondering if you still have the passion:D (if the Octavia II had been given 250bhp(without personal fiddling! ...I'd still have it)
  22. Hope they don't publish the Monster Raving Looney list. As to the question,of course it is wrong to publish it.When you actually go in to vote, remember how strict they are about everything.....go in your little booth, fold the paper, sneak it in the box.Its all very private. As someone else has said (I know this isn't meant to be political but it needs to be said),the way Labour has behaved in terms of deciding how we should run our lives to the point of severe intrusion into our private lives....I find that (and what might come) far scarier. In fact I worry about who agrees with them
  23. I couldn't notice any difference at all (panel).Must just be me or the original was fine in the first place:(
  24. Can't drive straight when they do,despite my innocence
