I replaced the CR2025 with a CR2032 when the battery went flat in the second key, yes it was a bit of a squeeze getting it back together again but it fitted OK.

Having just moved from the edge of Exmoor I can say from personal experience that there are some VERY large ridges and hollows on some Exmoor roads, having said that I never had any problems with either a 1.4TSI Octavia 3 Estate or a Toyota Aygo.

... and have been having this discussion/debate for many years as there are many different views. Personally as an engineer I cannot believe that what is basically a rubber belt in an environment subject to vast temperature changes (under the bonnet attached to a lump of metal) cannot survive for the same length of time as the metal parts ('lifetime') and given that expensive damage will happen to the engine if the belt does fail I regard the concept of 'lifetime' as flawed. Whether the change interval should be 5 years, 7 years or other interval is more complex and I certainly cannot see the logic behind Skoda UK suggesting a 5 year interval (shorter than most other Skoda importers) but I went along with the 5 year interval just in case I might need to hope for any 'goodwill' in the vent of a failure - but then I am averse to avoidable risks. Others will have different opinions/views which I 100% respect and hope for the same understanding...

A similar comment has been made about much of the GUI design of the Octavia 4 infotainment system, that's the way they have designed it and even though many owners dislike it with a passion I strongly suspect that's how it will stay.

Has a previous owner changed the headlights and removed/unplugged the 55 and A5 modules (are they still present on the car? - the A5 is easy to spot on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror)

It's far more than that - after Dieselgate VAG changed the firmware on all their brands to disable/remove all the tweaks that could affect emissions levels, so this affects ALL VAG brands and is not an infotainment issue let alone a Skoda issue - it's a deliberate corporate decision in an attempt to avoid further fines.

The reliability problems with the 1.4TSI were the earlier twin charger version- the 1.4TSi fitted to the Octavia 3 is the new EA211 engine which does not have those problems. Owners of the later 1.5TSi have complained on here about 'kangarooing' problems that have affected them. I drove a 14.TSi estate for 5 years and was very happy with it's economy and performance, having driven to the south of France it made a good relaxed motorway cruiser.

Will it still be open to people living in a shared ownership i.e. part owned, part rented property?

The other plate prefix to be aware of is G - my previous Octavia 3 had a GC prefix and has been owned by one of the well known car rental companies based in Kent and sold as a 1 year old.

Can you please confirm that you have a TDI vRS? (and maybe update your profile...) The TDI vRS has a cambelt but the TSI vRS has a timing chain.

I had the problem you describe on my previous Audi RS4, the cause was the stepper motor driving the heat distribution flap on the passenger side - the motor was OK but the mechanism had moulding flashes which causes the flap to jam, easily cured with a fine file.

Even with a battery of the same type and capacity, you SHOULD change the battery serial number so the BMS knows a new battery is fitted and immediately does a recalibration - if you don't do this the BMS will assume the old battery is still fitted and some power saving measures (turning off some loads because it thinks the battery is weak) can still happen for some time.

In my experience the two phrases "traffic planners" and "common sense" have no connection at all. In Trowbridge they are going to be closing one of the major entry roads for a week in January (and causing congestion for a further 9 weeks) to widen cycle lanes that I have never seen used by a single cycle - I gather this is to spend a grant given to them by the UK Government to "improve active travel".
