  1. My prediction? "They all do that sir" - that's what the majority of dealers say...
  2. In 48 years of car ownership I don't recall ever owning a car with an illuminated ignition lock?
  3. I always use the Holts concentrate screenwash but a few years ago an Audi dealer topped up with the VW screenwash at a service and when I checked under the bonnet the next weekend there were visible lumps floating around in the screenwash reservoir. Fortunately I hadn't had to use the washers that week so the lumps stayed in the reservoir, I drained the reservoir and refilled with my Holts plus water and threw the VW screenwash away.
  4. Please can I ask that you use a more normal size font? That huge font scrolls way off the edge of the screen making it much harder to read.
  5. Before you erase it copy the data onto your PC as a backup
  6. To know for sure if it's a flap motor you need to do a diagnostic scan with e.g. VCDS or OBD11.
  7. Component Protection only happens when certain modules, those that VAG think are most likely to be stolen, are replaced. If you don't replace a module then component protection is irrelevant. When changing the battery if the battery type and capacity are the same as the old battery then all that's needed is to change the serial number by one digit - that's enough to tell the BMS that a new battery has been fitted. For many years the radio had stored the VIN of the car it is first installed into, now the radio is included in the component protection items so if it's the same radio in the same car there's nothing to do.
  8. That Highway Code update is aimed at hypermilers driving cars with manual gearboxes who quite proudly state that they coast many miles in neutral and become quite irate when asked online "how long would it take you to get into gear in an emergency?".
  9. It's not an old version of the VCDS software, it's an older VCDS cable that cannot support the longer CAN bus messages on newer cars - hence the [New feature! Extended UDS fault detail is only supported by current gen. interfaces] message. What @zahabyneeds is either a HEX-V2 or HEX-NET cable.
  10. +1 There have been multiple posts on here about the OBD11 apps making changes that cause unwanted consequences and not achieving the desired change. IMHO the apps are to be avoided and changes made manually step by step following the informations posted on briskoda.
  11. Since you have a Mk3 posting in this Mk4 forum is not the best place...
  12. Given the number of owners that have posted on here about fitting a CR2032 instead of a CR2025 (same 20mm diameter but 0.7mm thicker) without any problems I think there's a degree of over exaggeration of the possible problems/consequences in some recent posts.
  13. I replaced the CR2025 with a CR2032 when the battery went flat in the second key, yes it was a bit of a squeeze getting it back together again but it fitted OK.
  14. Having just moved from the edge of Exmoor I can say from personal experience that there are some VERY large ridges and hollows on some Exmoor roads, having said that I never had any problems with either a 1.4TSI Octavia 3 Estate or a Toyota Aygo.
  15. If you fit the same injector to the same cylinder no.
  16. Many, many times - seems my PC 'auto-corrected' can to cannot as I intended to type this
  17. Interesting opinion.... my 2007 Audi RS4 had two reversing lights (and two rear fog lights).
  18. I'm not aware of there being a 'legal' definition of the meaning of 'lifetime' in relation to vehicles, be interested if you could share your source of that information.
  19. ... and have been having this discussion/debate for many years as there are many different views. Personally as an engineer I cannot believe that what is basically a rubber belt in an environment subject to vast temperature changes (under the bonnet attached to a lump of metal) cannot survive for the same length of time as the metal parts ('lifetime') and given that expensive damage will happen to the engine if the belt does fail I regard the concept of 'lifetime' as flawed. Whether the change interval should be 5 years, 7 years or other interval is more complex and I certainly cannot see the logic behind Skoda UK suggesting a 5 year interval (shorter than most other Skoda importers) but I went along with the 5 year interval just in case I might need to hope for any 'goodwill' in the vent of a failure - but then I am averse to avoidable risks. Others will have different opinions/views which I 100% respect and hope for the same understanding...
  20. Exactly my logic for replacing the cambelt on my previous EA211 1.4TSI after 5 years.
  21. A similar comment has been made about much of the GUI design of the Octavia 4 infotainment system, that's the way they have designed it and even though many owners dislike it with a passion I strongly suspect that's how it will stay.
  22. Has a previous owner changed the headlights and removed/unplugged the 55 and A5 modules (are they still present on the car? - the A5 is easy to spot on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror)
  23. Just buy an hours subscription, enter your VIN and download EVERY file offered to your hard drive - then you have all the documents for your vehicle. Total cost? €5.88 per vehicle.
  24. It's far more than that - after Dieselgate VAG changed the firmware on all their brands to disable/remove all the tweaks that could affect emissions levels, so this affects ALL VAG brands and is not an infotainment issue let alone a Skoda issue - it's a deliberate corporate decision in an attempt to avoid further fines.
