  1. As I have mentioned before; Take an advanced course with the IAM. Your insurance will drop by hundreds of pounds, and your driving will improve no end into the bargain.
  2. ........and that's not true either! What utter crap some of these dealers talk!
  3. As far as I can see, the sensor reacts not only to the amount of light, but the relative colour temperature and contrast of the ambient light. There may even be other variables too. This would explain why the lights often come on on a summer's evening when the sun is low in the sky, which is one of the most dangerous driving times of the day. If your lights are on in these conditions, you have a very good chance of being seen by other road users, (who may be dazzled by the low sun) compared to having no lights on at all. I have had three cars with this auto lights feature (Citroen C3, Vectra 3.2 Gsi and now the Skoda) and they have all exhibited the same behavioural pattern in this regard. With the Skoda, the lights will also automatically come on if you are driving at over 80 mph, to make it even easier for the cops to book you!!!
  4. At least they are acknowledging that their workmanship isn't quite up to scratch, and they are willing to have a look at it again. I can think of worse cities to troll around, whilst waiting tho'! Leeds is quite interesting, nice parish church and a damn good choir! (organist hat on!)
  5. Correct - I spend ages trying to get it to work when I first got the car with maxidot. Warm evening, door open, nice sounds - know what I mean? ....Then it slowly dawned
  6. I can't really visualise them without actually seeing them on a car. Photoshop, anyone?
  7. That would be unnacceptable to me. A poor job in my opinion.
  8. Funnily enough, I had to do mine at the weekend. Had to ask the wife for a pin to adjust the jets, and found that you can do it without - just a finger will do!
  9. Absolutely right! When I picked up my new 08 1.9 octy, replacing an 06 one, the first few pull aways resulted in me stalling the thing. Now after 1600 odd miles, I haven't stalled it for over two weeks!
  10. You are so right - what is is they say? Power is nothing without control .... or grip!
  11. Probably a kink/broken cable or a duff socket. Cheap cables often pack up just at the point of entry into the socket.....
  12. my old 06 didn't have a socket, or Mp3, for that matter.
  13. Cheers for that Mater! I knew that there had to be a good reason! Presumably, then red is particularly difficult, and/or stressful to the eys/brain; after all, red is a sign of danger in the animal kingdom, and could it be, therefore that we subconciously interpret red as a difficult and unnerving colour?
  14. Glad to see another Radio 4 listener amonst us!
  15. The Skoda's gentle green displays are much easier on the eyes, and with maxidot, (white) you can actually see the radio info when wearing polarised sunglasses! I would discount a VW, Audi and Seat purely because of this alone. It wouldn't matter a jot to me how good or prestigeous the car was in other areas........
  16. Depends if you want to have a flat floor in the boot. Not all variants have the variable boot floor feature. Loading large/long items in the boot is quite difficult without it.
  17. Nice car - shame about the red displays, which play havoc with my eyesight!
  18. The newer cars (mine is 2008) have different fog lights, without the metal 'cap' shielding the lamp. I think that they are better than the ones on my older (2006) car. BTW They are all 55w. Worthwile Gadgets: Xenons - Fantastic - Far better than the uprated (nightbreakers) on the last car. Maxidot - Really good. You can tell which radio station you are tuned to when wearing polarised sunglasses - you can't read the LCD on the radio! Multi-function wheel: Good as far as it goes - but you can't switch audio modes though, although you do get a better wheel. Tyre pressure thingy: Utterly useless. Sunset Glass: excellent. Light Assist: Good, but doesn't always come on in rain - lights need to be switched on manually and then the control returned to the tunnel position. Puddle lights - Most handy when getting out of car in dinner suit, and NOT stepping in puddle/mud/horse poo ! Climate Control Last 5 cars have had it. Wouldn't be without it. Coming Home/Leaving Home Lights Really good - and dead cool, and you can adjust them with the maxi-dot. Parking Sensors Really good. False Floor in boot Excellent for storing wine on booze cruises!
