  1. Time to get firm with the dealer, and write a letter stating whats happened so far,and asking what they are going to do, to put things right. This is just storing up problems for the future, and the air bag light will be a MOT failure in years to come! Also point out your not sure if the airbag system is safe,ie will activate in an accident. Dare say its something simple but it needs sorting! So keep the pressure up on the dealer, dont let them get away with it. Good luck.
  2. Another thread with regard to fuel getting into the sump if Im reading things right.See previous thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/293435-turbo-failure/ Very disappointing to hear of another forum member being given the runaround by Skoda dealers.
  3. It was the plastic cover that had me beat,I probed with a long flat bladed screwdriwer and managed to release the catches.Had if off several times to do various things.,and each time never managed to get it back exactly as it was. This may help http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/184403-battery-cover-removal-late-vrs/
  4. There are threads in the Fabia section about when to change ,and on Youtube there is a video regarding the VW polo tdi(which may be the same engine as yours?) cam belt change.I have a 1.9TDI and would baulk at doing it myself, although one brave forum member posted his 1.9TDI cam belt change as a guide to others in one post. Hopfully access with the smaller engine is better? In my opinion it was so much easier to change cam-belts on older cars, just 3 pulleys, and you were done! And I think its the one time a mechanic actually earns his money! I
  5. That,s OK we know you meant well! A parallel would be in my old motorcycling days we were told if you had an accident and the helmet took a blow,to discard it and buy a new one,as you didn,t know what stress it had undergone?
  6. Yes perhaps its worth stressing that seat belt buckles ,are not designed to be repaired,or dismantled!.If yours fails, you need to replace the buckle and stalk complete. Maybe I should have added that that point in my first reply!
  7. See my previous thread may help. But didn,t realise at the time was my seats had inbuilt airbags, indicated by a tiny cloth sticker on the side of the seat.Had I known I would have been a lot more careful, when taking the seat out. Any doubts get a good garage to sort it out.Hope this helps ! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/240322-roomster-seat-belt-buckle-failed-and-replaced/?hl=%2Broomster+%2Bbelt+%2Bstalk
  8. Yes has happened to me several times. And sometimes I can look out from my front window of my house, and the angle is such can sometimes see a light on in the boot, indicating that I need to go out and give it a good slam.Getting wise to it now and when parking at home or elsewhere make sure its properly secure!
  9. When ever I'm feeling a bit blue I watch the Swissbox video!Cheers me up no end!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Yes I do what the garages do ,suck it out and pour it in.Less mess and fuss.Only spillage you have to watch is from the oil filter.I think mine was about £60,and money well spent. Before then I used a railway sleeper cut in half with ends bevelled as ramps to drain sump. But the Roomster is lower than my other cars, and there,s the fiddle of taking the sound baffle tray off under the diesel engine. I have a PD engine so it has to be top quality PD oil, about £20+ from internet plus filter say about £4
  11. Yes the more i think about you do wonder if the dealer damaged the sump etc.. whilst doing the cam belt change. All seems a bit suspicious to me? Grafitti,s right Id rather trust the work to a good independent.
  12. Really if you think about it the car could still be called"reliable" as the whole chain of events was brought about by the bolt holding the aux belt tensioner shearing. But for this everything would be well. Just one bolt and a very expensive domino effect! At 80000 miles the cam-belt was due so that was going to happen anyway.
  13. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/298881-rear-end-creaking/ Noticed this in Fabia section,to possibly confirm what fabdavrav advised!
  14. I have had 4 VWs and the present Skoda in my long lifetime ,and all have performed without any real problems , never letting me down. So I was surprised and dismayed to read in a recent Car Mechanics they VW gearboxes were number one for problems .Something to do with rivets being used which break off and mangle the gearbox. I don’t know what years ,or model numbers were affected? The only thing I would say to your parents is at 22 thousand miles the car is barely run in ,so if they have to take the £2k hit, it may last another 10 years if the job is done properly. Mind you they may be so brassed off only another make of car will, and Vauxhall 10 year warranty looks unbeatable under these circumstances! Hope it alll works out well for them.
  15. Gosh I don't know about goodwill gesture in the event of failure? We have seen legitimate claims for other items under the 3 year warranty thrown out by Skoda, like the chap who,s turbo failed due to ingress of oil.He had to buy another car! Just cant see it myself on a car out of warranty.Mind you if you know of any please lets us know.
  16. All cars should have one ,so simple yet so useful. No sticking things to the windscreen,or putting tickets on the dash that blow off when you slam the door.A penny's worth of plastic but great! People may rubbish the rest of the car but the ticket holders great!
  17. Sorry to hear you have been having problems ,hopefully they put the faults right for no charge. The only consolation besides peace of mind is the mechanics have to work fot their money as it’s a big job, unlike a service which is money for old rope. Regarding the cam belt change frequency World War 3 nearly broke out in a previous thread. There are some of us who go by the Skoda Handbook ie by the length of mileage ,and not the UK thing every 4 years regardless of mileage. Whilst others say with very strong conviction every 4 years no matter how low the mileage. Trawling around the internet it seems to suggest the rest of the world does things differently, i.e. roughly 6 years or 60,000 miles for the 1.9 PD engine. But I cant be sure, and it would be interesting to have input from overseas forum members on the subject, i.e. what happens in their country. Mind you some Fords for go for 10 years, before a cam belt change!
  18. Yes I used to take a lot of stick over my ownership of VW Beetles in the 70s,how ugly and old fashioned,it was to different from the rest for people to comprehend. I loved mine, and look at them now a style icon!
  19. My understanding from previous threads is that it will look like a VW Touran,in other words much like everything else on the road. But I dare say very practical. http://buickpic.tuningimagehosting.com/pm-2015_skoda_roomster_1_6-4501ce23edca0a114c45f8cde64f81b6.html
  20. This is what my Elswin says, and as Tyreman indicated. As I am not clever enough to fully understand ABS I will leave it there! The tyre inspection display operates via the ABS sensors, which compare the wheel rotations and through this also the wheel circumferences. In case of a change in the wheel circumference, the warning light in the dash panel insert lights up.
  21. Yes my tyre low pressure alarm goes off every now and then ,for no reason. Not enough to be a nuisance. Dont know how sensor works, maybe something needs cleaning?Goes off if new tyres are fitted as you would expect, but random alarms I cant explain.Press the button till it bleeps and all is well.
  22. Dont beat your self up over it that's just cars for you. If mine had failed I would have done exactly the same thing, thinking it was all one unit, not knowing any different.
  23. Yes I've noticed a few threads relating to alternator clutches and in my ignorance Id never heard of them despite doing my own servicing. Therefore I found this video informative. http://www.youtube.com/embed/fyosuYbPxr4
  24. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/236605-blown-turbo-14-tsi-common/ I know this is a different engine but his turbo was replaced under warranty. I would play merry hell with them! But that said I know how hard it can be dealing with service receptionists who are all smiles, and sweet talk, its hard to get angry with them.Give me a good independent dealer who knows what they are talking about, and the guy on reception who has actually worked on cars.Much easier to deal with.
  25. So much for Skoda Customer Service Promise!I have never owned a car from new and when you read things like this it puts you off. These dealers seem to treat their customers with utter contempt! Makes you wonder if Skodas warranty is not worth the paper its written on ,what's the Vauxall 10 year lifetime warranty worth.I dare say they have all got small print some where getting them out of their obligations. Anyway I hope it all works out for you in the long run.Good Luck! http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/customer-promise
