  1. Light covering, no more than 1cm in N. E Fife but more forecast tonight.
  2. I do 8 miles each way to work and back and trip says between 52 and 56 mpg (depending how cleanly I get through traffic) average. Best I've managed was 72.6 on a 20 mile A road run (bad weather so was 50 - 55 mph most of time) I use 6th a lot though and unless it's on a significant incline I'm in 6th at 50. Car doesn't seem to complain at all
  3. I got winter tyres at 205/45 x 16 OK for my VRS - Goodyear Eagle Ultragrips. There are several other makes available too. Quite a few threads running about these.
  4. I Wouldn't expect that kind of work needed unless it had a hard life!! What makes you think you were the cause?
  5. Many places will not fit just two winter tyres now for safety reasons. I plumbed for all four and stayed at standard size.
  6. Nice one! Mine's coming up to 82,000
  7. Up to this year I have never bothered with winter tyres (having an Audi quattro made them largely unnecessary). However, last year I had my first FWD winter and boy was it a good one. Snow almost constant from just before xmas till end January. Our village didn't see a plough for 5 weeks! Strange as it may seem, the snow was OK but when it got compacted and froze - I think even a quattro would have struggled. The wife's Octavia got stuck a few times where the traction control just gave up. With all the talk of council cuts I think we would be lucky to see a gritter or plough at all over the winter so I have invested in some Goodyear Eagle Ultragrip GW3's for my Fabia. Not seen any snow yet but even in heavy, cold rain, they are most impressive. Wimp or not - I will be using these every winter from now on!
  8. Is Road Trip / Road Trip Lite only available for the iPhone? Can't find it for Android.
  9. I fitted winter tyres (of the same size as summer ones) and noticed a very slight decrease (now averaging 54 rather than 56 on short runs) but put this down to extra grip (drag?). However, the additional traction far outweighs this small penalty.
  10. After failing to find any locally I got mine from Mytyres. 2nd time I've used them and both trouble free.
  11. Been listening to a lot more Quo, ZZ TOP (Still love that in the car) as well as Queen (greatest hits II is also a good one for the car) and Chris Rea. Must confess I am also liking Nickelback's (OK not exactly an old group) Dark Horse Album in the car. Have to be so careful when Burn it to the Ground comes on!
