  1. The person at the back will be liable as they have pushed the taxi into your daughters car, she can confirm that if she only felt one impact. Contact her insurance company and let them deal with it, it's not a case where I would accept a cash settlement
  2. This makes it more confusing though ''Periods that always qualify for relief No matter how many homes you own or where you lived at the time, you always get relief for: the last 18 months before you sold your home the first 12 months you owned the home if it was being built, renovated or you couldn’t sell your old home You must have lived in the home as your only or main residence at some point while you owned it.''
  3. It's the only property I owned at the time and still is. On the face of it if I sell within 18 months of moving out then I may get full tax relief, if it goes over that then I start to become liable.....that seems a little bit too simple though
  4. I will speak to an accountant and IFA, just wondered if anyone had any experience. There seems to be some allowance for the first 12 months and last 18 months of ownership, but it gets very complicated
  5. I really need some help to decide what I should do A little history... I bought a maisonette in December 2013 for £137,000 and lived in it until May of this year. I currently have 'consent to let' from my mortgage lender and my current fixed rate deal ends in December I have just had the flat valued in order to remortgage it onto a Buy to Let, it has been valued at £172,000 I had originally intended to keep the flat for the long term, but it now seems likely I will look to sell it at the end of 2016/early 2017 Can anyone advise on where I stand with regard to capital gains tax. Is it based on the price I paid for the flat or the value when it became a Buy to Let So I lived there 17 months and will have not lived there for 18 months - 2 years by the time it sold I don't want to change my mortgage if it's going to leave me liable for more tax. I have tried google, but there are so many variables that it's proving quite confusing Also, I don't own any other property, I am currently renting Any help would be massively appreciated Thanks
  6. Yeah she claimed there were paper records for the special delivery items but said there were no records for signed for Tortoise does seem like a more viable option. We would have hand delivered but it's a friend that has just started chemo and understandably doesn't want any visitors at the moment Tbh I don't have a big issue with it taking a week, only that they charge you extra to ensure delivery within 2 days
  7. In case anyone is on the edge of their seat. The parcel has arrived, 7 days to go 40 miles.....that's service for you
  8. So my girlfriend posted a parcel via Royal Mail signed for service last week, paying extra to insure the item and for it to be delivered by Tuesday It's now obviously Friday and the item hasn't arrived. Unfortunately she's managed to lose the receipt that has the tracking number Phone customer services and they said they cannot do anything but if we go into the branch then they should be able to trace the transaction Just been into the branch and been told, without a receipt we cannot trace it at all (despite it being done on their own electronic self service till) and her exact words were 'I work for the Post Office and I wouldn't use Royal Mail, they're a load of ship' We have to wait 21 days to report it missing, but without a receipt will not be able to claim any compensation Long shot, but has anyone had any experience of this situation and is there any small glimmer of hope?
  9. Thanks for all your input Dan, it's appreciated :-)
  10. Sorry for delayed reply, was out all day yesterday at a works away day, quad biking etc Currently working for a housing association dealing with government equity loans My only knowledge of property is having owned several and now currently have a house and a buy to let flat The thing is I'm realistic about the fact that I'm never going to fit in 20 hours a week of study, with shared custody of my daughter and my partner in the same position with her son, life is hectic enough as it is If it's unrealistic without a massive amount of study then I'll need to explore other options
  11. My problem is I'm 32, two kids, mortgage to pay etc. I'm trying to find the most cost effective way of changing careers
  12. What about qualifications etc though?
  13. Hi all Not sure if this is the right section for this Looking to find out if anyone works/has worked in the property surveying business, as in residential for mortgage purposes It's something I am interested in and just trying to find out the best route of entry etc Thanks
  14. Just two more months with no insurance then, good luck
  15. To me it sounds like Ronnie Bickering, which somehow seems more appropriate
  16. Imagine running a bath, leave the taps on for a good ten minutes. Switch off the taps, wait 30 seconds and then put the plug in = the forward planning in my office
  17. I bought my Octavia from them new in 2011 and service was fine. Tried to deal with them a few times since and they were shocking. Guess it depends who you get at the time
  18. Not anymore, sold the car a couple of weeks ago
  19. Sold mine yesterday and got a good price, believe the sat nav will be removed shortly though
  20. Thanks. I'm not sure how tax is irrelevant, still got to pay it
