  1. As a (newish) private landlord myself, this is the stuff of my nightmares. My sympathy goes to you parents, these cheating scumbags really should be turfed out on their ears. By the sounds of it, they are repeat offenders who know how to play the system. Couple of questions- Did they carry out credit checks on the prospective tenants? I would have thought (hoped) that any previous non-payment of rent would have been thrown up by this. Like wise, once they have got rid, they need to report this to the credit agencies for logging. I always credit check, aswell as referencing (although this is not that reliable as this has proved) both previous landlord and employer. Proof of earnings is also obtained. A couple of methods I have used to protect my life income - Obtain a Guarantor, not always needed, but can be useful if you have a nagging doubt over potential financial security, but the prospective tenants seem good in every other respect. I have also used an insurance policy that covers the 1st 12 months of rent. Cost about £89, but allows you to get over that uncertain period until you get to know the tenant and you feel more secure. Also if you need to get rid, you have 12 months still getting paid while you do it. The policy can be extended, but usually by that time you have a good enough feel for them. Has the tenant been served a Section 21? If so what has been the outcome? Good luck with getting rid.
  2. Agree they are subtle, and was surprised how good the latest Haldex was.Given a straight choice would probably choose Torsen. However it wasn't enough to prevent me getting a Haldex equipped Golf R
  3. My last car was S4 and Torsen. Current car is Golf R and Haldex. I noticed very quickly the subtle differences between the two.You don't need to push too hard to realise which wheels the two different systems are biased towards. The Haldex is very good in the latest version, but still has a very slight shuffle of power when traction is lost. Torsen is silky smooth That said, the weight saving of Haldex is very welcome
  4. ACC is a great bit of kit, just takes a while to learn it's quirks. Without going too deep into the ifs and buts of the OP's question, ACC can be overridden just by pressing the accelerator. So for any given situation you can prevent the system slamming on the brakes. Similarly, manually braking will cancel the ACC altogether
  5. Just wondering if any Brisky members are into home Automation? I'm just starting to build my system, so fairly basic stuff with a few remote power switches, lights, and sensors for motion / doors etc. As far as the controller, I've gone for a hybrid of a Vera Edge Z-wave controller coupled with a RFX 433Mhz transmitter. This allows me to use all the Z-wave products plus LightwaveRF, Philips Hue and Nest products by using plugin software apps. So most of the products from the main players can be controlled and set into scenes using the Vera Edge controller. So far I'm impressed, but just wondering what other people have done, and whether some good ideas / products can be shared
  6. Maybe, but they have all my details & have acknowledged my original letter of denial. The wording of their second letter acknowledging my complaint, basically says (paraphrasing) We will investigate and will write to you again if the results warrant it. So, it kind of reads, if we think you are guilty we'll write to you. If it's our mistake, we will just leave you in limbo. Nice :(
  7. So, over a month since South yorkshire Police sent me a letter to say they would investigate, and.........nothing!!! So much for their insistence on you must reply within 28 days or else , Ive provided all the evidence and my personal mobile number and email address, but no furthet communication. What makes me angry is that the only way I can get in touch with them is by letter, as the telephone number provided is just a recording to use the website, which only gives their address. It would be so simple, and courteous for them to just write a short letter (or email / call) to say 'sorry' it was an error on our behalf. Grrrrrrrr!!!!
  8. Your not driving it correctly!!I'm hoping ti get 36mpg from the Passat derv
  9. Golf R mpg - 25-28 on average during the last 20 months
  10. Presume you mean with the Golf, don't swap to the new one until July Although both have ACC.I find ACC great, although it seems to divide opinion. If you use it with the mindset that it's not an all seeing, all doing I think it delivers better results. I find that if you intervene with the odd throttle blip (when overtaking, closing gaps or going round left hand turning cars), and using the (+/- 5mph) to slow down more gently to fast approaching slower traffic, it can be a very effective aid. Leave it to 'drive' itself and its just not clever enough
  11. Pour Vous Lease search engine, Pistonheads Lease topic, couple of good (cheap) lease companies. Good starting point http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/personal/car-contract-hire-and-leasing http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1547940&i=3000 https://www.centralukvehicleleasing.co.uk https://www.gateway2lease.com https://www.selectcarleasing.co.uk http://www.freedomcontracts.com
  12. You don't need to worry about my U-turn!! The discount was so big (~£4-5k) that it didn't take much thinking about. There are quite a few things on the car I was wanting anyway, DSG, Adaptive Cruise, Sat Nav etc, so while I won't be arriving at supersonic speed it certainly will be in luxury, as the Alltrack has had the parts bin thrown at it If this, or another super bargain hadn't have come up, I would have almost certainly gone for another Golf R, this time with DSG Anyhow, £5k saved, I've got a few holidays to come over the next 2 years. :)
  13. Just back from a couple of days in Cumbria, blasting round some great B roads in the R So, as you may have read earlier in my thread I kind of went full circle on what I wanted in a car. Initially I wanted bigger, better and generally more expensive. The more I thought about it, the more I seemed content on having another R, a great all round car Then I started realising that lately how little I actually use the car, and it's mainly become a bit of a workhorse rather than a fun toy. My life definitely has shifted over the last year, with more time allocated to R&R. So with that in mind, I started scouring for a bargain. I didn't want a cheap small, basic car, but a decent mid range, premium(ish) car that was heavily discounted. The actual model & spec being irrelevant. I came across a deal last week that basically sounded too good to be true. But decided to follow it up anyway. The car- VW Passat Alltrack 190Ps DSG Discover Sat Nav Adaptive Cruise Folding Heated Mirrors Electric ErgoComfort Seats 18" Alloys Comfort Pack The deal- £1500 + 23 x £57.78+vat (yep £57.78 a month!!!) Doc fee £150 Total cost over the 2 years - £2979+vat This is a car that retail at £34k, so less than 10% of depreciation over 2 years. It turns out there was only a 1 hour window on this deal earlier this week, between 9-10am. Basically there was an error on the VW costings, which was capitalised on by a couple of lease companies. The Alltrack normaly leases at ~6+23 x £400, so the error was quite significant. I nervously awaited the outcome as most applications were outside the time window, and only a small number within were approved. Anyway, long story short, I got the phone call from the lease company to say they VW were honouring my application I've now got my contract signed and returned & approved. So a very happy boy. I've got my R for another 4 months, so will make the most of it, but over the next 2 years I will have about £4k spare to enjoy on extra holidays etc, and Im not exactly slumming it, in a £34k car
  14. Not what anyone would guess. Totally left field. But deal of the century
  15. Prefer the look of the 235i, just the cost is £2-3k more over 2years :( I'm on a mission to get a nice car on a budget
  16. It's played second fiddle to the R for a while now, but at £2k less that the R over 2 years it's one hell of a deal. Whilst there are many things I would miss on the R, the engine on the Beemer is a class act, and probably the last of its type in mainstream hot hatches :( might be worthwhile just to get one while they're available
  17. Excellent deal on the M135i posted today. £2160 + 23 x £179+vat Sounds like I could live with that. Sent a PM to the lease company regarding delivery dates etc. Let's see what they say
  18. Nope, TBH the deal disappeared, and in hindsight I reckon the bootspace is not going to be big enough for me. Still looking for the elusive deal
  19. If its got wires running to the turbo, it could have possibly had a tuning box attached at some point. As far as checking your software etc, you could take it to a reputable tuner that can map cars. Most will have 'stock' type maps, albeit it won't be 100% original. It will however, if done properly give near exact results

    Lease deals

This is the reality! I'm currently with the country's largest car lease company. All they're vehicles are registered with them.If you get a fine or NIP they contact the lease company who provide the person named on the contract. Simples Edit: just checked their website, they are the WORLDS largest car leasing company. Let's hope they've got it right

    Lease deals

Unfortunately you are at odds with nearly every lease company. Most retain the V5 and are the registered keepers. This in itself allows them to routinely tax the vehicle as part of the contract.
  22. Depends where you've being sticking your hands / arms
  23. Suppose it's what type of safe & where it's situated. I have a safe & I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be found unless you were told where it was.
  24. I'm not sure of the exact deal your striking, but most of the finance deals that come with the free servicing can be paid immediately afterwards. Leaving you with free servicing but no cost of the finance
