  1. Likewise. Was a toss-up which to go for when I got the Goodyears. This time the Vredesteins were much cheaper.
  2. Just ordered 2 of these as a replacement for my Goodyear Vector 4Seasons which are approaching the 3mm mark. Ordered from pneus-online as they were significantly cheaper than anywhere else. Will see how I get on with them and report back. Going to put them on the rear and swap the rears to the front. Quite happy with the all-season tyres as they seem to give a good compromise. If anyone is thinking about getting some all-seasons or winters, I'd look at doing it soon. You can guarantee that the first spell of cold weather will result in the prices shooting up. I was going to hold off maybe a month or two but decided to get them while the price is low. Not only that, but I've already seen 6 degrees Celsius a couple of early mornings when leaving for work.
  3. What your describing sounds like a wheel bearing. I had something similar recently on mine and didn't sound like a wheel bearing to begin with. At first I thought it was tyres, then a had it down as a driveshaft but eventually worked out that it was a bearing. If I'm honest, I didn't think it was a wheel bearing because it didn't have that typical 'Lancaster bomber' sound to it. Was more of a high-pitched whirring sound and was only noticeable above 45-50mph, it did start to develop and was quite loud at 30mph just before I got it changed. Mine was the front off-side. In contrast, a colleague who has a vRS sounds like his has a wheel bearing on the way out but his does sound like your typical bearing noise. We think his is a rear bearing.
  4. Hit the 100k mark last week. First car I've owned that's done that many miles. Right on cue it's developed a little fault which is either a sticky caliper or handbrake cable as I've been getting one hot wheel and a smell of brakes. So that will be investigated next week when I can get it into the garage. Seems to free itself off after a while so isn't too serious but will only get worse. Oh, and the spanner popped up, oil change is due on 500 miles.
  5. Ah, shame it ain't now. Excellent price. I could have sworn I didn't see the price in your original post!
  6. Not exactly a bargain though. Quick search throws up : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autoglym-150g-High-Definition-Wax/dp/B001FEISS6 Looks like you could get it even cheaper, unless there is something I don't know regarding people selling dodgy products?
  7. BSD is excellent. Such a good product. I like this as a shampoo: http://www.angelwax.co.uk/?wpsc-product=angelwax-superior-automotive-shampoo
  8. Were later PD100s fitted with DMF? For example AXR engine code models.
  9. Saab 9-5 Aero. Well that's what I had prior to getting the Fabia. Only got rid of the Saab due to change in my commute, so hopefully I would have still had it.
  10. Angelwax products are excellent! Recently treated myself to some Bilberry, Revelation and Shampoo. Local to me, which can have its disadvantages as I struggle to stay away.
  11. Another vote for the Goodyear Vector 4seasons. I've had these on my car for 12k miles. Still plenty of tread left and decent grip in both summer and winter. I've found them to be particularly good in the wet, dealing well with standing water. Mine are 185/60/14 so not exactly a wide tyre. Seemed to be quite sure-footed in slippery conditions too.
  12. My setup is a little different to the vRS - I only have one fan which has two speeds. After I sorted the rubbing on the cable and regassed the system, the fan would only run at fast speed - and that was only when the car was stationary with a/c on. Now it doesn't even do that.
  13. How easy or difficult was it to fit the fan controller? I'm in the same position as you, I suspect it as being either the fan controller or the actual motor for the fan has burnt out. I noticed that my fan was rubbing against a thick cable (earth I think) which could have been stopping it from turning properly. I'm thinking this could have caused premature failure of the fan. Could be worth checking the fan is free to turn.
  14. Does it sound like the window rubbers? It's likely this is what it is. Mine does the same, especially when the weather has been dry for a few days. I'm pretty sure that the silicone spray will do the trick. I've not tried that yet as I'm sure that I have some but can't find it, so I'm refusing to buy more as I know it'll turn up as soon as i do.
  15. I changed the 4 spoke wheel/airbag on mine to one of those (well the wheel is a mk4 Golf item as I didn't like the perforated leather) and it was a straight swap.
  16. All looking rather shiney. Great work there. I've not been able to keep on top of mine lately. Having to use it every day for work as I came out the carpool due to impending arrival of first child. Then arrival of said baby has kept me occupied so it's in a sorry state. I'll try and post a pic later.
  17. I'd doubt it would be anything you'd notice. I replaced mine last week with a Mann one.
  18. So even the later model AXR PD100s have a SMF?
  19. It sounds like the previous owner was extremely pikey when it came to repairing/maintaining your car. Recommend you get it fully checked over to see if there are any other hidden 'gems' waiting to catch you out. Better to be safe than sorry.
  20. Hi mate, sorry to hear that you've lost your job. That stinks, especially at this time of year. Car sounds nice, get some pics up of it nice and clean and I'm sure that'll help. Good luck with the sale and the hunt for a new job.
  21. Check this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/265143-fabia-14-tdi-pd-80-2/ Might be of interest to you.
  22. Looks great mate. Well worth it. I did mine earlier this year and it's still looking quite good. 2-bucket method helps. Does take a lot of time and effort though.
  23. Old gear knob was looking a bit sorry for itself - all worn and a small hole in the gaiter. So, I found a replacement on eBay for £17.99 delivered so decided to give it a go. It's not a genuine part but from the pic it looked ok. Here is what turned up: Old vs New: Quite chuffed with it. The chrome part isn't the same quality as the genuine article and the gaiter frame is a tad clumsy but it's pretty good for the price.
