  1. Well thanks to JR RS I've sprung for a pre-wired set from bold-sport.com. Fitting them to my poverty-spec O2 Ambiente from 2006 is going to be a challenge, but I'll find a way
  2. Looks fantastic! Thanks for the update! I'll have a look for a way to remove the carpet cover on the side of the centre console... So, you definately recommend cutting out the room for the lights out of hard plastic, not the foam? Also, what exactely is the behaviour of the lights now? They also work when on the move, correct?
  3. Unless you are breaking down every week with massive repair bills, changing cars will ***ALWAYS*** cost you money. No matter how you try to rationalise it If you think the depreciation on your second hand car is bad, wait untill you buy a new car and watch it's value drop.
  4. Went to the local supermarket today. Found 2 open parking spaces ahead of each other, so I pulled into the last one and drove upto the first one, so my nose was pointing into the road between the parking spots. No other cars around. I came outside after 10 minutes to find my car blocked in. I swear this was not staged in any way. I think first the VW Transporter pulled in behind me, and the Citroen parked in front. Took a pic and wanted to wait (as I was still in my...work...uniform... ) but had to drive the gf to an appointment :( would have liked to confront the idiots who did that. The lines on the ground are very faded though (I'm also not far enough to the front of the box because I couldn't see the lines anymore) and next to the Citroen you can see another car who is parked wrongly.
  5. I also wanted to replace the ageing worn and tired inner lighting. Already replaced the festoons with LED variants, but the results were not that good (too blue for my taste) I also ordered these for the reading lights. I messed up though, and ordered 3 packs. So that's 30 LEDs! They showed up yesterday. Replaced the interior W5W bulbs and was well pleased, very white light. So impressed that tonight I'm taking out the middle interior festoon LEDs that are just too blueish, and I'm going to fabricate 2 of the new LEDs into the holder. Also did the boot lights, very white and even though they are "round" bulbs and should have worse spreading of light then the 1 sided LEDs, the boot is very brightly lit now. Finally replaced the sidelights. I've got Philips Daytime DRL 4's at the front. Match that white LED colour perfectely. Sadly my dipped beam is very very yellowish now (2 x Philips Xtreme Power's) so I'm going to start sourcing an OEM xenon set For the record, these are also very very good license plate lights! Very white and no CANbus warning! This is all on a older 2006 O2.
  6. Unfortunately I'm in Belgium, so different rules...and appearantely they comply with all regs...:(
  7. My parents live in a dead end street. Very quiet street, the kind where on hot summer's evenings all the neighbours would stand outside talking etc. Then a young couple moved in. They bought a small house at the end of the street. The woman is a classical ballet teacher. After 6 months she opened a dance school on the 2nd story of their semi-detached house. Now? The street is a flippin' highway. Every 2 hours the rich blonde moms roar into this tiny road with their Range Rovers and X5's to drop off little precious, they turn in other people's driveways, when they park they completely block the road. It's a nightmare...My parents live at the beginning of the street, so they only have to deal with getting sideswiped when they go to check for mail or something. No more neighbours gathering outside, or bbq's, or anything for that matter...
  8. A link included to the eBay auction would be nice...
  9. If you open the big door at the back of the car, you will be surprized to find a space there reserved for items other then people, like shopping bags, or suitcases. I like this thread, keep the helpfull tips coming people!
  10. Mine (1.9 PD BXE without DPF) smoked moderately/heavy, the exhaust side would get more covered in soot then the other side. After my stage 1 remap including EGR valve removal, I noticed both sides stayed clean. No more smoke!
  11. Could not be enabled on my car!
  12. Word of warning; I had Coming Home/Leaving Home enabled using VAGCOm a few months ago. Unlock the car, main lights would come on. Enter car, insert key, turn to preheat and lights would go off. Then start the car, and after starting I would manually turn the lights back on. Coincidence or not, in a matter of 3 weeks both my headlight bulbs went. Talked to a few people, and after explaining the "Off-On-Off-On" behaviour, they said while normally it shouldn't cause a big problem, it might have caused old bulbs to fail. I had it disabled, and invested in Philips Xtreme Power bulbs and Philips Daytime 4 DRL Daytime Running Light set. Way better option in my view. The Xtreme Powers are bloody expensive though, and I don't want to risk them going sooner because of CH/LH coding.
  13. You guys need to visit America. When people get to their cars with their shopping trolleys, they leave the cart in the lot. Then some low payed youth picks them up and returns them; Often not fast enough, and on one particular windy day, we sat at the side of the road watching the carts go rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrCRASH into the side of cars at the parking lot...insane... One day my dad went to his car after shopping. A lady before him was carrying a plastic box that folds away, it was full of groceries. She got to her car which was parked next to my dads. No keys in her hands. She thought for a moment, then threw the plastic box on the boot of my dads new Skoda Superb. He told her "can you please put that box somewhere else like the ground, instead of scratching my car???" Her response? "Oh my, aren't we a bit fussy today???" She got into her car and drove off, license frame said "Car Leasing Athlon"...typical, another company car driven by the wife on a personal errand, with no disregard for other people. I wasn't there, if I had been, I would have sat down on her bonnet and wiggled my jeans-covered ass all over it, the bitch
  14. I read that before, turning the wheel caused a short in the stalk and the wipers went all bonkers. Don't remember where I read it, or a fix...sorry...but it's worth looking at the stalk!
  15. Just read in the local paper that the Belgian Police has issued a notice to it's highway patrol units to use the "normal" variants available at the pump. Any mileage improvement, if any, is cancelled out due to the higher costs. I always put Shell normal diesel in. Never had a problem, and getting good mileage aswell!
  16. That is a very difficult one to answer, difference in engine size and transmission? I think your best bet might me to look at http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ , you can look up the mileage figures for specific models. And my 2 cents? Manual is always better then automatic when your looking for economic driving... Here's my 1.9PD http://www.spritmoni....html?hcosts=on (Chipped to 130 hp the 14th of January, 2 new Michelin Energy Savers on the 24th of February) 52.30 average 52.31 summer tyres 52.15 winter tyres 49.20 when trailering The biggest difference is not the car, but the driver. My collegue has a 2.0 Opel Insignia, I can get the same mileage as in my O2 in his car, while he only gets 30-35. Lower speeds, less motorway!!!, more anticipating driving, and smoothness go a long way.
  17. Could be worse... My mate bought a new Fiat Grande Punto a few years ago. Signed the order form, payed the advance. He got a call a few days later, they made an error in his favour the pricing, it was 200€ or something. He said "I already signed the order, I'm not obliged to pay the difference, if I do, can you give me something in return?" He got some goodies thrown in, including them delivering the car with a full tank. He was supposed to pick it up and come to my house, journey of 5 km's. I get a call on my way home, "can you come pick me up?" You guessed it...salesrep filled it up with gasoline, it was a diesel... He tried to return the car, but to no avail, he signed for delivery. They flushed the fuel system, and he has a letter from Fiat Europe stating that if the car develops engine problems related to the fuel issue, it's on Fiat. The car now has 60.000km's, so far the aircon has had it, cruise control never worked (the garage is still waiting on the "software update from Fiat" on that one), and best of all, the Fiat logo on the tailgate has fallen off...
  18. I helped my inlaws move a few weeks ago. I will give you a tip, if you plan of moving alot of stuff, or you care about mileage enough, remove the back seats! I did, made a huge difference!
  19. Just got the email for those that were waiting/wondering; Skoda Octavia Diesel (May 04 - 12) 04 to 61 Hatchback and Estate with 1.9 litre (1896cc) & 2.0 litre (1968cc) PD and common rail turbo-diesel engines Does NOT cover models with 1.6 litre diesel engine, 4x4 models, or, 'Tour' or 'Scout' Does NOT cover petrol models £21.99 Linky
  20. Knock yourself out http://www.my-gti.com/719/differences-between-the-volkswagen-rcd-210-rcd-310-rns-310-rcd-510-and-the-rns-510 Main differences are the 315 comes with Europe cards, the 310 only local (UK or Benelux in my situation) It also has the capabilities to display 2D aswell as the normal 3D map, although with a firmware upgrade and map upgrade this is possible on the 310 aswell (but that's a bit of a risky process without guarantees that it will work) You also get the option to display the speedlimit on the screen I believe. I got a secondhand Amundsen, works just fine. Satnav was more of a gimmick for me, have an iPhone + TomTom, and another TomTom in the glovebox. But I found the Amundsen satnav works surprizingly well! Only downside are the expensive disks...
  21. Wiper sorted, and a VW Passat 3BG arm installed without issue
  22. Just to clarify, VW RNS 310 = Skoda Amundsen VW RNS 315 = Skoda Amundsen + VW RNS 510 = Skoda Columbus Amundsen has been available for some years. Fitted one myself a few weeks ago, happy with it!
  23. Thanks, not really planning on using that particular seller dua to poor feedback, just wondering if the arms are interchangable. I might just pop over to the local VW dealer and try to have a look at the wiper, if they let me just wondering if someone on here has definate knowledge that the VW/Octavia/Fabia arms are interchangable. Or how about this; http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0062VJX1I/ref=s9_bbs_gw_d0_g263_ir02?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1B9Q2EVRYVTNNSKZBZW6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
  24. A week or 2 I was happily driving along. After about an hour (rainy, used the wipers) my rear wiper stopped halfway. Retried a couple of times, managed to get it back into the starting position after +/- 10 clicks. Found out it would probably be the rear wiper motor. Went to an independent garage, he said the same. He unplugged the motor and checked the current, he said there was nothing wrong with the electrics, so he said the motor was done for. Got a new motor, and installed it today. I broke off a piece of the rear wiper arm almost a year ago when I removed the cover I use against ice forming in winter. When removing the wiper arm today, the other overstressed side finally gave way. Anyway, installed the new motor. And low and behold, it still doesn't work. Tried it with the boot closed, engine running, and nothing. I now think the boot sensor might be faulty, can anyone tell me if this could be the case on an estate Octavia II? Would the "boot lid open" light be flashing intermittently? Because it hasn't been so far. My plan so far is going back to the independent garage and have him check it out. Meanwhile, I'm trying to source a new wiper arm. Not alot of Skoda Octavia parts to be found online, however, I do find a boatload of VW Passat and Fabia parts. There doesn't appear to be a part number on the wiper arm, so can anybody help me out there? Also, would any of these work as a replacement arm? http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/SKODA-FABIA-2-HB-Bras-essuie-glace-arriere-Neuf-/180718594859?pt=JG_FR_Auto_Pi%C3%A8ces&hash=item2a13aaeb2b http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-PASSAT-B6-3C-05-REAR-WIPER-ARM-BLADE-WINDSCREEN-/170693706487?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27be2342f7 Many thanks, Jan
