  1. On my Karoq I discovered this week that the engine will restart when the car in front of me moves away! Chris
  2. I understand the fuel tank to be "about 50 litres for FWD cars, and about 55 litres for 4x4 cars, with about 6 litres left when the red light comes on. Looking at my records, and usually filling the tank when it's down to around 50 or 60 miles range, over its first year the miles covered for each refill have gradually increased from 330 to 350 and the fuel needed to refill it gradually decreasing from 48.6 down to 43.5 litres. That's for lots of short shopping trips and few longer journeys each time, and for a 2.0TSI 4x4. But at present I've just had two 100 miles trips and have covered 374 miles on the last tank full with a remaining range of 40 miles left in the tank. My calculated fuel consumption has gradually improved from 31 to 36.5 mpg. (Note that the MySkoda App would have me believe I'm getting 38.6 mpg!! And when I refill the tank the car tells me I've got a range of 450 miles!!) Chris
  3. An interesting thread, of only peripheral interest to me until EVs have a range of 450 miles and can be recharged in 5 minutes even when I'm staying with friends or away on holiday in the country. For those who remember videotape recorders... EVs are like Betamax recorders, (and don't laugh but I had a V2000 recorder!) while I'm backing hydrogen cars to be like VHS recorders that came in late and then cornered the market. They also must be the only cars which get lighter as you fill the fuel tank Chris
  4. It's the same in recent Karoqs, so seems to be an MIB3 'feature'!
  5. You get LED headlights now (depending on trim level) and having driven my car from Yorkshire to Staffordshire last night I can confirm they work very well. The auto-dip worked well, and the lights had a good spread to the sides on dipped beam. Yes, the dynamic light assist I had with the Bi-Xenons on my previous Golf SV (which had mechanical masks that swung around to keep the lights on main beam but shield other vehicles) was better, and Matrix LEDs would be nice, but mine will be fine for the amount of night driving I do nowadays. Chris
  6. When I ordered my MY20 Karoq in June 2020, the MY21 spec was announced in July, and I just tweaked my spec to get the new options I wanted. I didn't have a build date at the time, but I don't think it impacted my place in the queue. My dealer also honoured our agreed deal so I didn't have to pay any more for it. So I would expect the factory to just shift existing orders over to the facelifted model once production starts. At present they are talking about holding a digital launch event on the 30th, and I have asked when the factory changeover will happen. Chris PS: I suspect there will be pros and cons about the facelift, with it having a slightly different grill and headlights, probably less physical buttons inside as it shifts to more touchscreen controls like the Octavia, but added options like matrix led headlights and dynamic indicators.
  7. For anyone waiting for the Karoq to be built, Skoda UK Media have announced: "The #SKODA Karoq has fast-cemented its place in our line-up. we've sold 500,000 of the popular SUV since its launch in 2017 and last year it was our second best-seller worldwide. "The wait is almost over to see the face-lifted model, which makes its debut on 30th Nov!" Chris
  8. Thanks Bryfly, Did you copy the PACKAGE.SLIST file onto the USB stick as well? My maps are still back at 21.2 at the moment, so it'll be good if this will update them. And even better if software version 0270 will accept the updates Chris
  9. OK, so trying to download the zipped file with MS Edge brought up a security check saying the file was unsafe! Was this the empty file you found? Bypassing the security warning by telling it to 'keep' the file downloaded the zipped file OK (In about 20 minutes for my home broadband connection). It then extracted to a myriad of folders (in about 40 minutes on my PC). The manual then says to copy the contents of the already unpacked file (not the entire folder) to a USB Memory stick which has been formatted as Ex-FAT and is at least 64GB in size. (I used one with USB and USB-C connectors at each end to avoid needing a USB-C adaptor.) Now the illustration shows just one sub-folder selected, but I'm sure you need more than just the one sub-folder! So I'm assuming that what they meant to say was to copy the unpacked contents excluding the PACKAGE.SLIST file. So this is what I copied. Now I'll plug it into the car for a while and see if my map version number changes! Chris
  10. Hi Stewartv, I've seen some suggestions that you need the 0276 software to update files from a USB stick rather than the 0270 software I have in my car. You can check which you have by pressing Menu / System Settings / System Information. Again I've seen suggestions that this software update can only be installed by the factory or a dealer, and won't arrive via the online updates. Can you confirm which software you have in your car(s)? Chris
  11. I've accessed the Skoda Update portal with my VIN after reading your post, and can confirm that there is now a manual detailing how to update the maps on MIB3 systems. This states that you have to download the 25GB file to a USB memory stick, and then leave the updated map file plugged into the USB-C port while you're driving. So this suggests that it will still only update the maps you need when you actually drive into a new area, rather than update the whole database, and so works in the same way as updating the maps online as far as I can see. There is a 25GB update file that you can download, but when I tried this using MS Edge it reported that it was an unsafe file, and I had to bypass the security check to start it downloading. However I am away from home at present and it was taking far too long to download the whole file so I'll have to abandon that attempt until Monday. Chris
  12. I also favour all-season tyres, but suggest that you need to read the test reports carefully as the German-based ones can place a strong emphasis on their performance on snow, while in the UK (south of the Scottish Highlands at least) I'd place more emphasis on their performance in the wet at low temperatures. Continental tyres for instance get good reviews but Michelins may well be more suited to UK conditions.
  13. Cheers, I used to have one of those, but it didn't have a satnav. If it's a 1st generation infotainment system, I think the SD card is only used to update the mapping database on the hard disk, and the operating software is all stored internally. If it won't reset, I think it may well need professional attention. But with a system that old, can you still get updated maps for it anyway? Chris
  14. What age is your car, and which generation Infotainment system do you have? Presumably your sat nav system is stored on a hard disk rather than an SD card? Chris
  15. Not sure if it's been reported on this forum, but it has at SOS Error: Emergency Call Workshop! - Skoda Karoq Forums I've never experienced it on my car though, so although other owners are also experiencing the problem, I'm not sure how common it is. Chrus
  16. Well I do, and he's also in the IAM like me! As far as I am aware, it's only taxi drivers who are exempt from the law requiring car passengers to wear seat belts when they are fitted to a car. And if taxi drivers can ban smoking in the cabs, I don't see why they can't explain that passengers not wearing seatbelts are liable for a £500 fine. (Pitbull4x4 hasn't said where he lives, so I'm assuming he's in the UK. If not then other laws will apply. Chris
  17. Can't you insist they belt up? I wouldn't want their heavy bodies thumping into the back of my seat in a crash!!
  18. You'll find the maps will update themselves online when updates are available, but there will always be some odd glitches. I suspect the map tiles in mine every now and again don't have the UK flag set as speed limits suddenly show as 45 or 90 (ie the UK limit in Kph). And coming home on Wednesday it suddenly showed a new car dealership where there wasn't one. Chris
  19. I didn't get any USB-C adapters with my car, but they're readily available elsewhere (Tesco, Amazon etc) and then you can choose the size and type you want. I think the Telephone menu in the car will let you delete the other phone pairing, and you may need to ensure that the Car menu has the dipping mirror setting enabled. Chris
  20. There have been other problems reported here: I think your best bet is to start with your local dealer, as if you've been using him to service your car you'll have built up a relationship with him. He may well need to get Skoda UK approval to treat it as a design fault but if he's on your side it will make it easier to get them to agree to pay for it. Any other evidence you can gather to show that this is a common fault and/or an acknowledgement from Skoda that it is a design fault will also help your cause. There's another thread here too: Unable to open fuel filler flap - Skoda Karoq Forums Best of luck... Chris
  21. CJJE replied to pragmatix's topic in Skoda Karoq
Very true, and after having a dipping mirror on all my recent Golfs (without powered seats) it seems like the Skoda accountants won out by fitting the cheaper mirror unless you paid for powered seats. Luckily, my Area View cameras make the dipping mirror redundant though Chris
  22. CJJE replied to pragmatix's topic in Skoda Karoq
Only if you have the right kind of left-hand mirror I believe... such as the ones fitted to Editions with powered seats as they need the hardware to remember the settings for the saved seat positions. There have been other threads where people have found that even after coding the software to provide the dipping function it doesn't work without changing the actual mirror. Chris
  23. Interesting! The Turkish Lira price is a lot cheaper than the AliExpress but doesn't include shipping. Who's going to be the guinea pig to see how much UK Customs add?? Chris
  24. I understand that instead of simply pulling a plug through the puncture, a vulcanised repair applies a reinforced patch to the inside of the tyre and the vulcanisation process effectively 'welds' the old and new rubber together. My repairer has a massive oven which they use overnight to heat the tyres they are repairing. It is said to be a safe and durable way of fixing a puncture repair, and There is no other permanent way of repairing an industrial or commercial tyre. Tyre vulcanising repair can be implemented on any tyre including side walls, shoulder and tyre tread surface. Tyres are fully examined for extent of damage to decide if safe repair is possible. My slow puncture was on the 'corner' of the tyre just down from the edge of the tread, and to my mind seemed to have been a blackthorn spike penetrating the tyre as it seemed to have a fibrous end on the outside. I picked the repaired tyre up this afternoon, and the wheel was balanced and refitted to my car for £30.
  25. Yeh... they've done them before for me. A puncture in the tread is just plugged for about £10 or so, but if it's in the sidewall or edge of the tread and hasn't damaged the interior at all they vulcanise the repair for £30. I've used them for years, and the repairs have always lasted for the rest of the tyre's life. I was wondering whether it was worth while replacing the tyre with another Bridgestone Dueler, or replacing the lot with all-season tyres, but am glad I can put that off until later
