  1. right, who thought about this out loud recently to allow the collective unconscious drag this thread up again....
  2. yesterday morning.. same start point, same finish point, same route. 10m variance... strava has my vote! the mapping is also alot more accurate, i can see see where i drift wide to make the turn at the lamp post at the farthest point of the run, and the line is on the footpath (aerial layer turned on) for the vast vast bulk of the way. much happier than fitbit..
  3. well... stuoid question... is the new cv joint definitely the correct one? if it isnt, it may be creating a different ratio of drive to the wheel?
  4. hello, and yes. the engine from a mk1 fabia vrs diesel will fit in a mk1 octavia. or.... you can get all the bits for the 1.9 pd from an octy or a mkiv golf gttdi and a massive remap to get it up to where you want.
  5. strava... measures during run to 2 decimals, fitbit only does to 1. exact same route.... 5.01km about 100m earlier than fitbit had been telling me... screenshot below. under 25mins. behind thrilled..
  6. its the fitbit app, on my phone, in my pocket while running. you can use it without a wearable. and, no, its not my phones gps, as that has always had me pretty much exactly where im standing. and, as i have said in the other thread... fitbit not recording distance properly has been an issue for a couple of yrs now - on literally the same run giving vastly different measurements to other apps... using strava tomorrow, so will see what it does
  7. dubious result last as fitbit made me run about 150m further than the last 3 weeks on the same route... fk you fitbit..
  8. not going by the online communities i was reading last night... one guy ran a 10km road race that fitbit said was 8.7km.. another guy ran nike+ simultaneously with fitbit on a known route and there was almost 2km of variance in fitbit over 3 runs where strava was about 20m..
  9. luckily im only using the app, havnt purchased a wearable yet, so a i think ill be avoiding the fitbits!
  10. update... from searching and reading some of the fitbit community forums, the gps tracking is crap. some people have reported it losing kilometers off their run... one guy did a 10k fun run event that his fitbit tracked as only being 8.7km. another guy ran the same route 3times with 2 apps running - samsung health and fitbit. samsung health varied about +/- .06km. fit bit lost almost 1km from 1st 2nd run, and another 1km on his 3rd run... so, fitbit seems to be crap. going to try strava instead..
  11. i had a jelly comb bluetooth thingy in my insignia that plugged into the aux port. could do calls, and stream music to the headunit. it about 40-50mm diameter, round single button job. worked fine, layout of the cabin in the in****nia (where the aux port and 12v sockets are) meant i couldnt really hide the cables as much as i wouldve wanted. and night driving the little blue light flashing was a tad distracting unless i put it on the side of the centre console, so thats where it lived. audio quality was good, but due to where i had to put it, i did have to shout a bit during conversations to be heard. edit... i got it on amazon, i just checked and its not currently available. but it cost 15quid sterling, plus postage, so your not going to spend a fortune trying something out.
  12. im using fit bit app for trackin my runs the last few weeks. and its great, except... the last 2 runs ive done, just now and Wed morning, its not so great. its making run nearly 200m farther to cover my 5k, on the exact same route ive been runing for 3 weeks. and whats sickening is that both runs wouldve been under my target time if the finish point was in the same place as previously! anybody else use it and have the same problem?
  13. could be the alternator starting to go? when was the auxillary belt (alternator etc) and tensioner done?
  14. oh yeah, bonus .. apple tree spud sr planted a few weeks ago in the park i go through on my route. i can see it in the morning light now, and i remembered to take snap on my way through today
  15. this morning, 655am start... annoyed, as im not sure its correct.. i ws passing my end point at 24m56 but.... fit bit app didnt go to 5km for another 100m!
  16. right, i cant run at night. i dont sleep. dont even feel tired until after 1am. and when small people have a habit of waking you around 630am and you dont even have caffeine to keep you going... its just unpleasant and makes me narky. so its gonna just have to be mornings, and hope swmbo gets used to me sneaking out and can go back asleep. anyway, 15 Oct, second fastest all time at 25m 18secs. ended up missing a run due to the floor removal weekend.. 19th oct. 21st oct. this one was hard for some reason. 24th Oct, back to mornings.. and today 26th oct im happily keeping under 26mins, and i know i can crack 25. todays headwind on the return leg definitely cost me time.
  17. i think you should get the bumper chairs. they are so unnecessary they are epic.
  18. contact a local scrote who will open it faster and doing less damage than a locksmith?? probably cheaper too...
  19. its the health hib, this is a health question. As some may know, following the arrival of Spud jr in Feb (feels like a couple of weeks but a different timeline ago!) my wife has been through a medical **** storm that still isnt fully resolved. we made the very real decision during the worst of it in March that we cannot have another pregnancy, as the thoughts and fears of repeating the events of thos first 2months is traumatising. straight up as a result of this decision, along with the being knackered from young baby and ongoing symptomatic fallout my wife suffered, and our own paranoias about potential pregnancy have led to our sex life being pretty non existent - letting the fears get in the away of anything else and worrying about failure rates of contraceptive methods... so, i have rung a clinic to enquire about getting a vasectomy. no needle anesthetic and keyhole entry, very short recovery time of a couole of days and costs less than than 500quid. has anyone else had this done? what are the feelings about it post event?
  20. ok, so this i hope may act as encouragement for others who, like me up to a couple of weeks ago, manage to psyche themselves out of tying their laces and going for a run. But also as a way for me to track progress made. so, a quick bio.... im nearly 37, weigh about 68-70kg, im 5' 6(.5)" tall. i have always hated running with a total and complete passion. in school i would get cramps after a half lap of a track, and feel like being sick after 2. but, at 16/17 i still couldnt run, i weighed about 55-58kg and according to the funky scales in the gym i had 6% body fat. i would happily stomp my way up a mountain at at a half jog and not be out of breathe at the top, or throw me in a swimming pool id go non stop for 7km until i need a pee. then... college happened. then workin full time happened. all the gyming, martial arts training and swimming fell away. i never got fat, though i gained weight ( not much mind) eventually about 8 yrs ago i went back to the gym. i never really made mych progress, there no target that i could say i want to hit which meant i struggled. i then went HIIT circuit training, in a small group class, in a gym thats in the upstairs of a pub - rough and a bit industrial i love it, with guy who is a complete headcase of fitness. the group made the difference, i stuck it out and pushed myself in every session, could only manage 1 night a week, but it made a difference i gained muscle mass, and fitness over 3 yrs that i never managed on my own. roll on to 2019.. work was ridiculous in terms of nights - i wasnt sleeping or eating properly, i was exhausted to the point of being unwell by christmas. i had to stop training, and over christmas gave up caffeine due to withdrawals and sensitivity having developed. i was also convinced (anyone who gives up caffeine may understand the panic/paranoia) that i had a heart issue as i felt so crap. git the all clear end of Jan, just before spud jr arrived. then my wife was unwell (still is) then lock down. and now we are here. im gone awfully unfit, still not sleeping and not exercising.... a new post will explain my change shortly, have to get sorted for bed now.
  21. im ordering some tint for the rear windows of the octy, to try and keep the sun off spud jr and sr coming into the better weather. But as ive done this previoisly, im really not sure how tinted to go.. is 35% enough, or would 20% be better? spud sr is still gona want to see out...
  22. Had car serviced, but my indy mech forgot to reset the service/insp indicator. So, how the heck do i reset it? Or does it need VCDS?
  23. So, between my own car imploding, work being a tad manic, and whole load of other ****e going on... i forgot to play the game before we left for our traditional Easter Holiers! So.... treviso, Italy. Interrent via autoeurope. 500L or Similar... What could it be??? I picked it up an hour ago, so guesses quick please... Ill reveal at 2100hrs GMT 2200hes local.
