the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher I think you have made so error as to @domhnalls neighbourhood. PS. EDIT. @Graham Butcher I used to use Dreghorn because i got LPG there are i used to stay in the Travelodge as it was the cheapest in the area. Otherwise i do not go to Shell Filling Stations for petrol or diesel. The Little Chef was wonderful for a breakfast, and the last time i was there we never got breakfast. The Manager had absconded with thousands of quid i later found out. ................... They were running out of gasoline trying to flee Florida. If their homes are not under water some might be running electric in their homes from the vehicle. Or from the Power wall. Like some were doing in floods and storms in Scotland and elsewhere in the last few major storms and power outages or floods. As it is if the roads are flooded then unless trucks or boats they might be going no place.

the truth about electric cars
^^^ What you need is Wind Turbines onshore & solar and battery storage and pylons, and pay a fair price for energy if it has to come from others area. What i see is that Private buyers are being put off by the cost of Public Charging if that is what they will need to do. There is a Social Divide, and that is not just an income one, it is tool for your work & transport, or just a car you buy / lease and pay to run.

the truth about electric cars
@PetrolDave Nail on the head. In Scotland where there were early adopters and free public charging there were drivers using public chargers rather than charging at home. Then tariffs came in and where cars used to get abandoned for hours or even days on chargers they started being quite empty. Then tariffs got higher again and there were time limits and penalties and previously busy chargers, even AC ones became a lot quieter. Now even though prices are not that high really but there are mostly just 50 kW DC max speeds people, business users and private users are going to Commercial Ultra Rapid chargers. Bugger cars with biggger batteries and wanting 100 / 100+ charging speeds. Often those with work vehicles could not care about the price of charging. Actually some in vans or cars do not care about £1 a minute over 40 or 50 minutes on a 50kW charger as they just want charged and to get on with work. PS There was a dearth of Public Charging around and in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and now in the City and on the By-pass there are lots of chargers to choose from. Very much underused now though, damn expensive and those that can workplace charge or home charge might now be doing that as and when at a quarter or less of the Commercial chargers, or even half on a standard tariff what the Council chargers are. Edinburgh and Glasgow are much better now for Ultra Rapid Chargers, Dundee has so much choice and chargers are used because of people passing through and the Taxi & Couriers and local BEV & PHEV,s. Many that ask me if an EV is worth getting are told only if you can charge at home or work or do not do long journeys and want to pay more than you do running your petrol or diesel.

Mod Help
Real world and not a parallel universe any Octavia goes into and around a 60 mph corner & out of it facing forward still if it can be cornered at 60 mph or slower if a slower corner. A vRS will do that pretty damn standard as long as the tyres grip & you are in control...

the truth about electric cars
I fully expect there are more considering the population of Scotland is 5.5 million then visitors and just London is near 9 million and visitors and the Englandshire population is 56 million or what ever. Is the difference as much as 10 times more EV,s in England & how many are there knocking around in the South &Southwest? It is hardly rocket science, or even a matter of statistics, it is what @PetrolDave sees. @Graham Butcher just the other week you were saying there were not so many, then that around you or your son there were lots. Strange old world. PS All these drivers of vehicles that are not BEV,s looking into see how the Charging Hubs are doing is a good thing. They can report on them, like they can how many Red Squirrels they see, or Badgers dead or alive. The public are so useful for stuff like this.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher I know it well as my Grandchildren live in Penicuick and i skied at Hillend from the 1970,s. Really best stop looking at maps without understanding locations and junctions. Dreghorn is an easier filling station for on and off the Bypass. Maybe visit here sometime. Plenty EV charging in the area..

I missed that posts. If it is the one near the Hillend Ski Centre and the road to Biggar or Pencuik then many do not unless going that way. There is a reason for more to go that way, the new attraction. The Alpine Coaster.- the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher Do you really think that @domhnall does not know where every filling station is in his area? I am 85 miles away and know everyone.- Crazy car design
They will no doubt sell.- the truth about electric cars
This is planned only a stones throw away from the Charging Hub and would no doubt have charging, likely for electric coaches.- the truth about electric cars
If more Councils around the regions were to see how it is done in Dundee they might get on a bit quicker. Work more with partners and allow the investment. The Energy Company getting the planning approval, the Battery Storage Company getting the planning passed, the Substations and Transmission Pylons being approved. The Councils getting their vehicle fleets over to BEV,s as they get replaced. http://tiktok.com/@dundeecitycouncil/video/7226756253958016282 Dundee Council Vehicle Charging Hub and Public Charging, Clepington Road.- the truth about electric cars
I call it a charging hub or station even if 1 rapid and 1 fast chargers. Stirling park and ride with 60 chargers has only 4 Rapids & those are 50 kW. Edinburgh Airport Park and ride 6 rapids, Aberdeen Airport Park & Ride 3 with only 2 working.- Tyre specs 94h / 98V
Not in my experience of every tyre i ever put on being XL, usually because they are low profile tyres, but even with smaller rims and more sidewall i go XL for the reinforced sidewalls. Someone will be along then to confirm if 94 is OK as the load rating. ? What European roads are those, UK or Continental Europe.?- Swansong for SIII 280: Sleeper Edition ... sic transit gloria mundi?
- Tyre specs 94h / 98V
@Carlston will give you all the info, but just get the higher Load Rated tyres, even if All Seasons.- Tyre specs 94h / 98V
@xess worry more about a loss adjuster looking at the tyres and the Speed / Load rating than a MOT Examiner in the UK. ? What Octavia have you / engine=gearbox?- the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher Skoda were they just went with the simple system that really came about to warn idiots with run flat tyres that they had a puncture & never went Sensors Valves. Fair enough, that is what happened with the budget brand even with their HALO models. You can set your pressures to anything you like, 4 different pressures / circumferences and it could not care less really other than the likes of a Superb with haldex and where is disables functions like the ACC. Or ends up putting the brakes on because too small a circumference tyre is on even though the TPMS was reset. But then you get a guide to pressures & an Ice Scraper in the Fuel Filler flap that is known to freeze closed, & an Umbrella to shelter under as you change the spare, possibly or usually of a different size. VW Group can do efficiency & Hyundai did with the Ioniq so really for 2025 both of them should be able to have small cars that do not use much electricity snd at low purchase prices. Maybe not the £17,000 that VW where going on about a few years ago for the Fabia, Polo, A1 sized EV,s that would on sale. Never happened other than the MI Electric they were already doing or a Citigo iV. Now it is 2027 that they can predict how the world will be and costs of materials and production which i assume was or is to be in China. The 28kW battery Ioniq is even more efficient than the 38kw.- the truth about electric cars
Again discussed on Wake Up to Money Radio 5 from 5am. I was listening while charging. http://bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0023pt8- the truth about electric cars
@Dieselgate Actually you can do Motorway in the UK speed and in the right ambient temp get close to the WLTP figure of some EV,s. So as much as many might not be able to then fair enough. As far as AC on or which driving mode selected or regen levels, or CC used, that is what makes big differences.- the truth about electric cars
I have BP Subscription so cheaper. still expensive, as is 73 pence @ MFG. As is 59 pence at Stirling, or South Ayrshire a minimum £5 charge. Tesla up in price but to save paying the Stirling Tariff i am topping up @ Tesla Perth and then charging in Kilmarknock but staying to get £5,s worth. Tesla making the difference for me for Aberdeen going north, and Aviemore or Perth going South.- the truth about electric cars
I know the price of everything because i pay and no one is helping pay for charging and i am not driving as a commercial / business user. Funnily they should know as there are Accountants / HMRS involved.- the truth about electric cars
MFG charging costs 79 pence a kWh. So 60 kWh @ 79 pence, £47.40 for 4.5 miles a kWh. 270 miles. 30kWh for me, £23.70 for 110 miles.- the truth about electric cars
@domhnall What tariff are you paying or are you generating electric? Or really it is that you get very good efficiency and the length of the trip. 330 miles if you get 4.5 miles a kWh is 73 kWh. 500 pence divided by 73 kWh is 6.84 pence. 26.6 kWh i would have used and @ 6.9 pence a kWh that would have cost me £1.84 But to then recharge at 60 pence a kWh to get back doing the same efficiency i would be paying £16.00 ............... So is the 6.9 pence a kWh expensive or just the MINI not that efficient doing 5 x 2 miles a day? 50 pence divided by 6.9 pence = 7.2 kWh. 20 miles divided by 7.2 = 2.7 miles per kWh. But really more like 3 miles as losses charging on the 3 pin cable.. £5 would be 200 miles. But if i was tailing you and getting 4.5 miles a kWh i would have had to stop to charge at 110-120 miles. I do not get 4.5 miles a kWh though. just 3.7 miles or so. 330 miles at 6.9 pence would be 89 kWh so @6.9 pence that is £6.15. Sort of Petrol price for a gallon of petrol and maybe 50 miles.- the truth about electric cars
@Dieselgate Maybe not for you. Me & @lol-lol and others might just do as we often do and pick the correct vehicle travelling at the Motorway or Dual Carriageway speed as no Motorways north of Perth and then get very good efficiency. As it is with these TESLA Model 3 or Y or what ever there is only a driver in them. If you are really going to do 5 hours or more driving in a Tesla there is a pretty good chance if you have not enough range a 30 minute stop at a supercharger will be all that is needed. 5 x 65 mph is 325 miles. 5 x 70 mph is 350 miles. - the truth about electric cars
