the truth about electric cars
I am lost now, as you seem to be. You really need to understand that regardless of the horror stories and those that see all the problems second hand or compile all the issues and negative things there are many that have no issues. Plenty with EV,s that have issues will tell others, and if they have had enough of them will drive something else as their own personal transport.

the truth about electric cars
I was talking about Supermarket tills. Not fuel pumps. You quoted me. did you not think. TILLS. Then for fuel £99 precharge went long ago up here for fuel at the pumps.. There was £45 pre charge pending at an Osprey EV charger. @Graham Butcher You worry too much about things that you need not worry about as far as charging an EV, or running one.

the truth about electric cars
No but it is how it is right now, and can be in the future. Like all the horror stories of the End in nigh. We are all going to burn to death because of EV,s. You are in the wrong section for going on about ICE Vehicles and how the work and you fuel them & how quick it is. (and how the Cashier tells those that want AdBlue from the Goods vehicle pump they can not have it, buy the containers. . We never all came up the Clyde in a banana boat. Anyone that has bothered to drive and charge an EV has a clue what it is like, but then there is location location location.

the truth about electric cars
There are supermarkets putting tills back in as the Self Service schemes have been failures theft wise and customer satisfaction wise. But more and more Self Pay and Pack now have AI identifying the item as you move it from the trolley or basket before you scan it. Also it has your picture. So Facial recognition will be simple to implement. As can happen at Fuel Pumps or EV Chargers, car arrives, charger knows the car type, charging type, Reg Number or even the VIN, Registered Keeper, bill whoever. Pay per Mile. But then the UK still has no compulsory ID, easy swap Reg Plates, and the ANPR system and IT, Receptions for Communications, Phones, WIFI, Radio that can be crap. Then crap security of data...

the truth about electric cars
Things are changing. Time takes time. Filling up vehicles was not as simple as being made out just 30 years ago in many areas / countries of the UK. There used to be garages / filling stations with OPENING HOURS. There were places without SUPERMARKET FILLING STATIONS. Supermarket Filling stations without Out of Hours pay at pumps, there still are. There were the Likes of Green Shield Stamps back decades ago. I used Tesco Rewards, i used ASDA CRedit Card to get 2 pence a litre off, and used ASDA,s with LPG where i bought twice as many litres of LPG compared to if running petrol and ther LPG was 1/2 the price, 50 pence a litre compared to £1 for unleaded & then the 2 pence a litre off. LPG was widely available in Scotland and cheaper than south of the border in England. My dad used to pay a Monthly amount and he ran his Diesels which he had for going caravanning using Bunkered Fuel. The UK is not all about Cities, or England and what is common there, but there is rural mainland England as Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland and also Islands.

Driving Style, choices vs manufacturer advice ....
There are various DSG,s and engines, early and simple petrol or diesels. 6 speed wet or 7 speed dry, engines with no Stop / Start or Coasting, and manual parking brakes and no Autohold. The 7 speed wet or dry and all the stuff. and different cars with Modes or not. So generalising about a DSG is just that. They can be used in various ways. Putting any of them onto N when moving is not something i have ever done with any drivetrain / DSG in the pat 15 years. @lol-lol does use N when moving.

Eon next gave me the first 2 25 kW. I will check who offered last night. EVfree I think. Edit. ZoomEV.

the truth about electric cars
Plenty with caravans were charging free or cheap once where they were going while it was free and then running the caravan electrics from the car. PITA where the greedy barstewards hogged chargers to do this while out and about during the day. Some charging of the car to then use in the caravan is cheaper than the kWh tariff at sites.

the truth about electric cars
Today in the last 120 miles mostly BMW EV,s into and out of Glasgow. 2nd time getting 25 kW of a charge free. There was a site yesterday that offered the same with Osprey but you can only have one promotion running at a time. So I will sign up later. Plenty Enyaq about and from Motability, as with MG,s, and other EV,s. Low or nil advance payments. PS I do like a Polestar.

the truth about electric cars
Maybe, for some in the past, but there were many with issues who jumped ship, Polestar aplenty, jags, Porshe and all the rest. I see the figure for EV,s in Scotland was under 50,000 last August. Just had 21X up my jacksy. No idea why they thought their Porsche needed to be behind the car I was rather than me.

the truth about electric cars
Tesla are everywhere around Scotland, driving, parked, charging, out and about and of all ages, and being near a TESLA Dealer / Center / Service place matter not a jot really. Travellers / reps travel and what matters is Tesla Super hubs or charging facilities. 11 Supercharger Hubs in Scotland. 3 Dealer Centres. 140 in the UK.

the truth about electric cars
Nail on head, exactly, we do not have these figures, so going by what you see or bother to see means nothing. Point being, car parks, street out side, personal plates, and plates from anyplace in the UK and not even half First Registered in Scotland that are on original plates. You do not know how many EV,s there are in Scotland on a permanent basis, or how many Scottish registered are elsewhere. Really @Graham Butcher what you buy matters not one bit really, there are plenty, there are what ever there are, and there are areas with not many, and areas with lots. There are areas pathetic for public charging, and where home charging does not suit the type of housing there is. Councils / Local Authorities and the Police spend public money on buying and leasing EV,s that are not used and they have been doing it for a good few years now. They even replace at 3 years ones that have not been used.

the truth about electric cars
Ps. The DVLA know where VED is being renewed at. There will be fleet renewals, lease vehicles, exempt VED renewed by Motability etc, but maybe 1/2 or under that are privately owned and renewals, especially over 3 years old ones. The DVLA will know more once there is VED to be paid on EV,s where they are with private owners. I am just someone that looks at reg plates and to see what and maybe from where or where first registered Especially with BEV,s. I also remember what and where I see personal plates.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher there are fleets of EV,s in Scottish local authorities without Scottish Licencing area registrations. Hundreds were in car parks in Glasgow during COVID never getting used, the same in Angus and many other places around the country. Fleets of Polestars and others at Airports registered just anyplace but not Scotland identifiers. My point to you was no shortage of EV,s to be seen. And there might well be a bought percentage considering that just cars registered in Scotland there seems to be 1 for every 2 people yet how many of the population are children or too old to drive or just do not drive. The car supermarkets compounds and dealerships are overflowing with cars that are In Trade. As will be the case many places around the UK.

My 2023 MINI Cooper S Level 3 Electric leased from Motability which will be with me for 3 years & now a 2021 MG5 as a dog wagon.
Having to finish charging from 80% to 100% again at a charger not part of Charge Place Scotland or the council as that only rapid charger out of order as usual and yet again the 43kW AC tethered I was using and getting 11 kW at cut out at 80%. I will be charged £5 for £3 worth of electric and will now pay £3.50 here to get the 20% charge rather than risking charging there anymore and being charged £5 minimum.

the truth about electric cars
Thanks. I just asked where that picture was from. I think we all know that vehicles are stored, awaiting export, been imported, awaiting distribution etc etc. While the WLTP certification was not done they bunkered cars abroad because they could not bring them in untill the Tests were done and passed. Then during COVID cars again stood not moving in or out of the countries it around the UK. It is nice to know where pics are from and which year..

Fuel consumption tripled after service.
If your were putting in 50 litres or even just 45 litres so need 10 gallons it is very very unlikely you are getting 5 mpg. ? What does your garage or you consider is a major service. Is that spark plugs replaced, when were they changed, replaced, air filter replaced, brakes serviced etc etc.

the truth about electric cars
But the subject was and is Electric cars and today @Graham Butcher not seeing many electric cars so hence he gathered there are not many on the roads. Just the ones they there are that he sees. But it matters not. There will be 22% at least extra ones registered someplace in the UK and that number will grow even if it means they are punted cheaply until the financial establishments can take the hit no more.
