ULEZ and other similar schemes we are being told are all about clean air for everybody but are they really just a means of making money from motorists?
Yes there are places that GPS does not work in the UK. As long as it works in England and especially London where the Government in Westminster for the UK has plans & ideas and it would be good to actually know who was in the country, going where and doing what. Starting with those that are part of Think Tanks & then Politicians and their advisors. Then the Peers of the Realm. Let us all know when they are in or out of the country. They should be all for that i am sure in Parliament and the House of Lords,

The UK does not even have compulsory ID cards. Lets get the Registration Numbers on Vehicles registered to people and bar codes or more modern chips on vehicles and the ANPR fit for function and at filling stations and charge hubs and then the ability to Disable Vehicles without MOTs, Insurance or VED. Use the available tech over the whole of the UK. Problem being the whole of the UK does not have Mobile Phone Reception, Wi-Fi, Broadband or councils or governments that can organise a p!55 up during a lockdown without being nabbed. They do not like that big brothers can know where everyone is because it is just meant for plebs.

Lets get the Poll Tax / Community charge back and have everyone pay for services and get it away from who owns a house of what value / size. They pay utilities, How many or few live in the house should be irrelevant. Have the opposite with Passenger Cars. Charge on weight and size and if charging per mile charge more if there is just a driver and for each empty seat.

1.2 TSI Hissing
Simple really, you go with their diagnosis and quoted costs and possible final bill or get a 2nd opinion from a Auto / DSG specialist with all the gear and maybe more than ideas. The Specialist in Diagnosis on German Vehicles might be right on the money. It is for you to decide.

1.0 fabias.. Any good???
Hopefully someone with experience of those will be along. That seems about as KISS as you can get and not basic spec. No idea about the pricing of them, others might have. How is the servicing look. Spark plugs changed maybe, brake fluid changed, pollen filter, maybe even the air filter. Is it FMDSH and actually a Full History of what was done and not just Servicing and not showing what serving?

1.2 TSI Hissing
How many miles has your Yeti covered? I would go see an Auto Gearbox specialist that works on DSG, not just DSG,s but DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG,s.

1.2 TSI Hissing
@Sasquatch1971 Who or what sort of place put your car on the diagnostics, a Maindealer's Tech or Fitter, or a Garage / Mechanic or an Auto Gearbox Specialist? How many miles has your Yeti covered? I have heard of the likes before, things can be this sort of price or even more, also heard of the wrong diagnosis, wrong quotes for replacements etc. PS. Maybe wading with a DQ200 DSG could be an issue, but seriously i doubt it in a Yeti or many other vehicles with a DQ200.

1.0 fabias.. Any good???
Maybe this is best in the Mk3 Fabia section. You really would need to say which engine. A 1.0 MPI, non turbo or a 1.0 TSI of whichever power output. There should be no downside, but best check which engine so which gearbox as not all the same even as a manual. Not all have disc brakes front and rear. Trim will make a difference. Best check the insurance and do not assume a MK3 Fabia so cheap to insure.

the truth about electric cars
I had a Transit Medium Roof / MWB Transit converted to a Metal Tent / Camper. Non lined roof so that i could wipe it out, i had a dog vent on the roof. Walls lined and floor, blacked out windows and a bunk bed fitted in with storage under. (The disabled lady that i bought it from had dog crates in it for her husky sledge dogs for going to race events. The Wheeled Sledge was carried on the rear. She slept on top of the dog crates and the food was stored above the cab.)

Karoq 1.5 TSI air filter change interval
Yes they give it as @ 6 years / 60,000 miles. 'They' do not know where you live, drive or park the car. Countryside, near a quarry, near the seaside, in a town next to a bus route. In the days of Minor / Major Service year about it was at the 2nd Major Service the same as the Spark Plugs. 4 years / 40,000 miles. It should have been checked at each service though.... Simply Clever, a couple of minutes when Air Filter boxes were simple to access. So really at least once a year or at a service that might be 2 years apart, so between services look at the air filter. Is it Clean / Dry. This is winter in the UK, maybe you need to go through deep puddles, fords, floods. Long and short, check an air filter. Edinburgh City Centre and around there are still dirty taxis and busses and other vehicles putting out high emissions and vehicles sitting day in day out in traffic can have a dirty black air filter. Pollen filter as well sooner than 2 years / 20,000 miles. Live or drive in the countryside and it can be Stoor, Chaf & other crap that has air filter or pollen filter needing a Shake Out, a vacuum or blow through or just replaced.

Windscreen washer empty in a few days
Interested to hear from the OP if it is just a leak. If the washer liquid is not suitable for the temperatures in cold weather to avoid freezing then it might well burst the bottle or pipes part etc. Just like the Anti freeze needs the ratio / mix with a strength suitable to the winter lowest temperatures. Welcome to the forum @Garrth111111

the truth about electric cars
Condensation dripping from a glass roof was my problem. But only because i was taking a dog out 4 or 5 times in a day and no further than 1.5 miles each time and heating on and back in to a cold car with a wet dog and the windows cracked open when i go into the shop and eventually condensation and me not wiping and then ice and next time melting. So the circumstances likely to have icing up inside of any small car or maybe even an ICE Mini used the same way, or a bigger car with a dog or 3 or people. Location location location. All my previous cars with a sun roof had a solid sliding cover and not just a net sliding black out screen. My Shogun did get a bit of mould starting on the headliner because it sat lots but the wind deflectors meant i could leave the windows down a little. My Jimnys were the same as in i had them many years and they were always aired or a heater in them when parked, only one was a bit damp because not used for 3 years. @Leeasked about me putting insulation between the glass and a screen and i had already done that with pieces of closed cell camping mat. I will see how that has done because not used the car since.

the truth about electric cars
PS. I did 80 miles in the BMW the other day starting with the snow swept off the bonnet and the bonnet covered in ice. The ice did not thaw until I was sitting in the sun and it was still around freezing outside. 150 miles later when it was above freezing I picked chunks of ice out of the front scuttle and let the dog lick it.

the truth about electric cars
The MINI electric turned on and with ambient temps from above freezing to minus 8 which is the lowest I have been in and the heater turned to set at 18•oC is showing as using 0.6 kWh. And it gets to 18 degrees c inside within about 10 minutes and stays showing using 0.6 kWh. And if I turn it to wanting 21degrees C still shows using the same energy. It is actually more efficient using the energy and heating when the car is unplugged or when pre heating is turned on. If sitting in the car charging the heater is limited on heating the car. In the Corsa Electric I could sit charging and put the heater to 28 degrees, fan on full and swelter in the car.

I see on the telly that the Prince of Wales was driving an Audi e-tron carbon vorsprung. About as near a British EV as the Royals can get.

the truth about electric cars
The issue really is being able to open windows a bit and stopping vehicles of any kind steaming up. This being an issue in blizzard like conditions. Wind deflectors can help there. Also EV,s not in the very coldest conditions but in traffic slow or convoys and no windscreen wash available. Frozen windscreens and wipers from lack of heated screens or interior heat. Maybe that is more a UK thing with Island nations and temperatures and few and far between times like any winter conditions in less populated areas and high level roads. Like where EV charging is at it,s least reliable and fewer.

the truth about electric cars
Personally as far as Tesla, big battery cars on UK roads, maybe even oop north in Scotland any of the drivers can cope even getting stopped at Snow Gates for several hours as long as they did plan ahead as far as charging fully before entering the high risk areas. It is the likes of me with a 50 kWh battery or much less like 30 kWh that really needs to decide how bad it can get if roads close or you need to take a diversion. Only maybe 75 to 90 miles range if moving. Bad enough around the A9 or A90 but in Deeside and the Cairngorms getting turned back or stuck on the A93, or A939 or the roads there take you too can be horrible. Instead of going maybe 30 miles a diversion can be more than 100 miles and still in horrible road conditions.

the truth about electric cars
Battery sealing paste shortages now an issue I read on Autocar. Cupra Born recalled cars waiting weeks for recall work to be completed after checks carried out. If VW or Audi EV,s get the job completed before any Skoda or Cupra might do that will not be unusual with the VW group and Audi,s. PS. My Wild Bean hot drink at 1/2 price when charging at BP stations with BP Pulse is pretty much needed after getting soaked or frozen trying to get a charge started. Still expensive for a hot drink. The other day when stopping in an ICE vehicles to use the toilet the card got me the discount as it is just a matter of showing it.

2018 Karoq - is this a good deal?
Up until July 2023 Skoda UK and main dealers were still using the guideline , recommendation , advice to change cam belts and water pumps on TSI,s even 1.0 TSI,s. Even though the water pump did not need changed if a Cambelt was at 5 years, 50,000 miles. So was it Cambelt and water pump replaced? Drive a 1.0 TSI and decide. Also a 1.5tsi ACT. A whole different can of worms with them. I would not want a 9 year old 1.5 TSI ACT. Or a 1.0tsi.

Well BYD will get on with building cars in Hungary and VW will hope to keep building and selling in China with any partner that is stupid enough to work with them.

the truth about electric cars
@J.R.you know what summer or warmer weather for any fitting tyres are and that they are fitted to almost every passenger car in the EU and UK unless the buyer makes an option for All Season of All weather or Winter tyres of All Terrains that might or might not be 3 Peak but if they are might still have M+S on them. So unless they are being called or classed as for anything else it is tyres suppliers that refer to the. As Summer and now so do people. Unless trying to make out there are no summer tyres. ECO bias as well. Often crap in many conditions even summer if cold or just wet. A few cars crashed at the side of the road and also the motorway might still have crashed even if they had the right tyres for the conditions. Or maybe not had to apply the brakes. Today at minus 7 to the warmer minus 3 it got to in the last 109 miles I did the issue is the brilliant sunshine and the dirt thrown onto windscreens. Frozen nipples my issue and like others I was stopping to use water or spray to see out. Minus 20 windscreen wash being no use when the nozzles are freezing.

the truth about electric cars
What are the OEM your tyres the car still has fitted? The 'All weathers' That Skoda put on. -6*oC and i am away to get the drivers door of the Estate car open and get it fired up and the ice under the snow melted and then drive with great care on the 275 wide rear 'All year round tyres' that it has fitted. (RWD) I have been driving lots for many winters on very bad roads, but very very seldom ever on sh1tE tyres for winter roads. (I should have had the Greenhouse heater in it before the snow started.) EDIT. Doors were not frozen shut. Hurry up and slow down. Flight from Norway i am going to meet might be delayed as a big storm there overnight.

the truth about electric cars
^^^ I think on a Skoda forum especially this forum we know what you get in some countries and what people ask on this forum regularly about can i fit this'. @Graham ButcherWhat 'All Weather Tyres did your Superb Come from the Factory with, are these 3PMSF / 3 Peak / Snow Flake tyres? They all come on All Season / All Year / All Wether tyres, Just that these tyres for 12 months of the year that most come with are not Winter Certified. As to OEM tyres, the forum is full of those wanting to change them because yes they are suitable for importing cars into the UK on right up till some people do not feel they are safe enough for them to be getting about on. PS. EDIT i see now that @Graham Butchercovered this. @wyx087 There are pre-heaters for ICE engines that Pre-Heat the coolant & oil, because starting the Engine from cold to Pre-Heat it is not Pre-heating is it ?, it is maybe getting the engine ready for you to drive off or heating the interior.

the truth about electric cars
There will be plenty EV,s doing that on OEM tyres. What about ICE BMW,s were there any of those about spinning there wheels regardless of RWD, FWD or AWD? Appropriate tyres, appropriate use of the accelerator even with the wrong tyres, regen if you want and one pedal driving and TC / ASR or not selected and off you go and stop when you want. Pre heating / de-icing is lovely.
