ULEZ and other similar schemes we are being told are all about clean air for everybody but are they really just a means of making money from motorists?
How many Newspaper Articles / Headlines do you need examples of. I know about Scotland which is quite big and has local papers and National papers and then the likes of The Express which will let people know what is not vary Tory and ging to happen. Get out and about more maybe from Essex. Pay more attention to what happens in your area of the England 20. That must be the kind of place where people do not speak, do not know each other, do not have local newspapers just facebook pages etc. Local towns or villages for local people and also incomers & visitors. There was always roads through them, maybe a chip shop open during the evening, a butchers, a grocers a newsagents, a garage and a filling station, now just houses, a village hall, maybe still a primary school and a shop or 2. Nothing wrong with people needing to drop the speed to 20 mph for a few hundred yards or so. This is a modern world with modern vehicles and very big HGV,s. They can truck up the road at 50 mph once out of the habitation, and cars at 60 mph. Some places already have a 40 MPH limit before you get in or out of the 30 mph. Recently i see some where you enter the 40 limit then right into the 20 mph. They never changed the 40 mph down to 30 mph.

Spare Wheel conformity?
@VRSx3dave There is a Universal wheel for models, like the Fabia, Scala / Kamiq with 5 x100, like a Polo , Ibiza etc. But that can be a 15" or 16" steel wheel, but the tyres need to be difference because the smaller class model have less circumference tyres. Then you have 4 x 112 Steel Wheels in sizes for bigger, but then that might be Octavia to Karoq, Kodiaq.

@Graham ButcherYou are where you are and believe what suits you. There are communities that want reduced speeds in their areas. That is what matters, they might get Community and Local Councillors on their side and the Committee, road convener and council leader. That is all it takes, the MAJORITY of the population might not agree but that does not stop things happening.

Rear ended....
Spare a thought for the 20 year old from Glasgow with a Mk3 Fabia that posted in the Insurance section that they are being quoted £6,000 for insurance. Which puts that article in perspective and shows that 'Averages' mean nothing if you have very high highs and maybe some lower lows.

There will always be people who think in residential and built up areas that thing 'Speed Limits on roads' should be reduced. As to Confusing the majority, that might be those talking about people, when they mean 'Drivers' Is it the majority of those that drive that are against the reduction in speed limits? Maybe so, maybe they have no children, or could not care less about children, or children in areas they drive through and only children where they actually live. Maybe it is users of Public Transport like busses complaining that they can only go at 20 mph, or maybe they are happy they can do 20 mph. Location location location, Villages, towns and areas with main roads passing through might be very different from in a city, or a housing scheme or even places with Public Transport. Lets get back to teaching the Green Cross Code. after all it was a good thing 54 years ago when introduced. & I might still be in the Tufty Club.

If an area has no issues or needs for a lower speed limit then there might be no support for a reduced speed limit. That is not the same as the Conservatives & Unionists pre GE trying to make out they would stop councils and local authorities from introducing them. We are years past in the British Isles from when the Local Authorities were supposed to be making adjustments to speed limits based on the location and other circumstances. Many just never bothered doing that in England, Wales or Scotland in a timely manner.

July 2019 Karoq 1.5 SEL DSG - DSG very occasional whirring/whine in 1st
The Automatic Specialists that deal with DSG,s & the companies / businesses that have replacement parts and software to resolve the failings with Clutches & MCU,s know what the issues are. As to main dealerships and repairing DSG,s or replacing clutch packs some farm that jobs out to Automatic Gearbox Specialists, that is people with all the gear and more than ideas, and that do not say 'Never heard of that before' or they all do that. If you get a Main Dealership Master Tech or Tech or Fitter to tell you what the issue is then it is the percentage of the millions of DQ200,s that Skoda produce for different VW Group brands and models are a bit duff.

Of course 30 mph has been a problem. Hence people have on their refuse bins speed signs and they support reduced speed limits through their towns and villages or streets / roads in cities. Hence cut out figures erected of a Police Officer with a hand held speed gun. What is the issue with having to knock 10 mph off your speed when going through areas where other live or shop and want to walk along pavements or cross roads. Some of the places with 20 MPH limits are to have traffic / goods vehicles use other routes like trunk route rather than take the routes they do.. Perth to Forfar and the A90 being an example of that where there are now 20 mph speed limits in villages and there will be more coming.

There is nothing new about DQ200 DSG Clutch issues. Forgetting anything about 2009-2012 and that issues, Synthetic oil, campaign 34F7, then 2013-2015, Oil, Heat, Pressure, campaign 34H5. You get to 2014/15 and Fabia Mk3 with a 1.2 TSI or 1.4 TDI and there are issues, a tpi, clutch upgrades and software. Not just for the Fabias though. Nothing special happened to DQ200,s when they were being used from 2015, or from 2018. Same old same old, some have issues and some have not and getting VW Group / Skoda to admit to them is something they do not do. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/439395-the-story-of-the-famous-dq200-clutch-slip

Lots of main streets and not just housing areas in Scotland have 20 mph limits and some villages or towns have a 20 mph on the main road the full length of them. No big deal IMO other than those that will be right up your jacksy as you comply to the signs.. Pre School children alone might not know how to cross a road safely, but generally school children can cross roads quickly by 20 mph limits can help it be safer. It is not just the dottery, infirm, maybe elderly or disabled that might benefit from traffic being slower, children with adults, adults with buggies / prams. Drivers seeing them and even slowing if they are attempting to cross roads as they have the right to.

the truth about electric cars
Like DPD and Royal Mail, Open Reach etc are doing around Scotland and elsewhere now then. Open Reach EV,s to be trialling the Street Green Box to EV charger conversions in Scotland. ........... Dundee 2019 and facilities get better and better for public charging, but sadly now the cost for public charging exceeds running a petrol vehicle for non business users, eg just a normal motorist using a car for Domestic, leisure /pleasure or even commuting.

the truth about electric cars
- the truth about electric cars
An Autocar article ust popped up on my phone. Toyota has no immediate plans for a Small EV / Electric Aygo. Batteries too expensive. It says the cheapest car will be the £32,000 the New Urban Crossover. VW Group are pretty much in the same boat, or just no small EV cars already on a boat or even on the horizon. It looks like it will be the French that are going to have to be getting small and affordable EV,s into cities. Maybe small last mile electric delivery vehicles as well. @PetrolDaveIn Scotland we have the A9 & the A90 running hundreds of miles south to north, north to south and some charging hubs just a few hundred yards off of them but not visible and it is the Councils & their roads departments that could have signage. As to planning and regulations on signage on the Trunk Routes and non trunk routes that does come down to the Scottish Government. Transport Scotland is a total joke. There are all at the Emergency Centre today though because the possible Snowmageddon hitting the Central Belt and South. As it is Local Councils might not even have those they use to clear roads or pavements of snow or grit clear the Chargers Bays, they can actual cause issues by pilling snow stopping you getting to them. That can be Contractors or the Direct Labour Contractor. ie, their staff by another name.- the truth about electric cars
They might be better organising themselves. Much more efficiency and profitability. Less vehicles sitting not being hired & less of those that are not what the customers want. As to EV,s there seems little point hiring them unless they are going to suit your requirements and budget and the cost of Public Charging might well be the issue. All hire firms could be more involved in the infrastructure of their regions and where the vehicles will be getting used. They might well have cards in the cars for charging at EV hubs and have negotiated good rates for them. Those i have meet at Chargers so far in Scotland have been ones having issues, but then there will be those that might not have and the cars are charging and they are off someplace. Understanding chargers in Scotland must be a mystery for many. The Councils / Government could help by Sign Posting to Public Charger Hubs.- the truth about electric cars
My first question would be. What is the turn over of Hertz fleet of hire cars normally? In the USA, & in Canada and Globally. Many many manufacturers use Fleet / Hire Companies to have vehicles First Registered. They supply them cheap. In the EU & UK they are doing that to meet Average C02 emissions. There are so many Polestar Hire Cars in Scotland and really they seem to be not doing much where i see them parked up / stored.- Jonny Smith Late Brake Show youtube vids, some are Interviews and many will be on other stuff transport related.
- The hybrid war 1.4 TSI vs 1.5 TSI PHEV
There are no 1.5 TSI PHEV Octavia yet. You will need to get a VW or Audi to get one of those. There are 1.5 TSI Mild Hybrids.- the truth about electric cars
? Why drive that van unless you want to or need to for work. If he collects & delivers them it is not him paying the charging, same as he would not pay the fuel. 140 miles range suits many for local town work. Running them suits businesses who get incentives to do that. It might jut be the employees that have to suffer. Maths not his strong point if home chargers do get electric at 7 pence a kWh. 10 x 7 would get you to 70 pence. But it is 79 pence there.- When your car is being serviced etc, would you expect your car to be covered by your insurance or the garages/dealers?
I fully expect when a vehicle is in the care of a main dealers that they are responsible for the cars safety and care & storage. Something that the Motoring Journals should maybe cover. Autocar, Auro Express etc. rather than the regular rubbish about what some manufacturers plan to launch in 2 years or more time and how cheap they will be then.- Low Coolant Error
If it was just a false warning because of the battery and the Coolant was at between Min & Max and you filled to MAX then it might go back to where it was. Setting it,s on level. There is no FILL TO THIS LINE level, handy if there was, Just MIN & MAX and at a service it might get filled to MAX and when you get home it is back where it was before they FILLED it.- Spare Wheel conformity?
The Kamiq PCD is 5 x 100.- When your car is being serviced etc, would you expect your car to be covered by your insurance or the garages/dealers?
Touting for business. As others might and customers of Inchcape might well go down the route of taking legal advice and then civil actions. Inchcape will have taken legal advice you would imagine, and the advice of their insurers. It will all come down to the T&C,s in the end. What you sign when you hand the keys of your vehicle to them to then take care or not of it. Also what your insurers believe and what they do.- Scratched gearbox - how to replace it?
Yes there are video guides on how to do it. In Youtube if you look, and linked in threads in this forum where people ask how to replace the DSG gearshifter.- When your car is being serviced etc, would you expect your car to be covered by your insurance or the garages/dealers?
It is not over until the fat lady sings, or maybe until customer get the dealerships owner into court. - the truth about electric cars
