  1. Respect to Marilyn Carr from Dundee. Born in 1941 without arms and not because of thalidomide. She lived life to the full using her feet and was a typist, drove a standard Mini using her feet before years later she had adaptions on vehicles. She married a pilot and also flew planes. She was a supporter of Douglas Bader and his and other charities. BLESMA among them. Helping people get adaptions. But then many drive with disabilities, and some systems on cars when built can be set to assist. Steering assistance or brake assistance increased or decreased being pretty usual. Years back it was maybe Mechanical pedal and steering adaptions or the lights / stalks where now it can be electrical / software that makes the difference.
  2. The drums do not need replaced often unless very poor condition inside from lack of maintenance. Shoes that might of been binding when parked up. But they really should be removed periodically and cleaned out as part of servicing and maintenance. That used to show as part of servicing up to about 2012 when it was minor and major services time about. I used to wonder at the service tick for brake drums cleaned when the wheels had not even been off a car. A broken spring in a drum was common on Mk 2 Fabia and there was a TPI and still the rear brakes when drums were never touched..
  3. The Spark Plug gap if too much means the engine is not running at it,s best. (Plugs reaching end of life.) A Full Service History is good if everything ever done is on it, and what is not done to the Schedule, Recommendations or Guidelines. ? When does the rear drums show as being removed when the brakes were serviced. That is only done if paid extra for, not part of Skoda Oil & Inspection Services or the Extended Scope. A Full Service History means very little if it is just inspections and oil and filters and report.
  4. If anyone bothers to look at what so called experts recommend for in the wet or very wet they might recommend increasing tyre pressures to reduce the risk of aqua planing. Others will suggest reducing the pressure to have more tread on the roads. Well that might be again about tyre type and profiles. It is amazing how location location location and temperatures can be what matters. Under inflated tyres might well get to hot. If it is crap ECo bias tyres which have poor grip / traction in the first place in the wet I would not want to put the pressure up more than they are normally run at.
  5. Welcome. Hopefully a mechanic roadtesting the car can identify the source of the noise. How is the cars service record,? When were the spark plugs last changed and was that maybe the 2nd time replaced. If not then maybe due replacing.
  6. Yes Scotland can. Wales & Northern Ireland as well, but England is up a creak and failed to act quickly in ordering paddles. But then there are objectors to more Pumped Storage in Scotland just this week, another stoochy then to the Pylons, the battery storage and more solar farms. I say first and foremost cut energy to those who object and are more concerned by their view than the cost of living / energy. What makes me laugh about many in new builds in the countryside is their property is built on what used to be agricultural land / countryside. a few short years and Scotland's only Nuclear Power Station will close & there is no new one on the horizon. As it is we are paying for the clean up of what there was for hundreds of years to come and that is in the energy bills we pay now, as well as for green projects not yet approved and objected to and delayed for decades.
  7. We will also see if the EU and UK stop new ice vehicles being first registered from 2035. We will see how things go when Petroineos closes the biggest part of Grangemouth and when any other Refineries or Cracking plants close in the UK. Energy Security for road and transport fuels & other products might very rise greatly with the UK Government having no control other than taxing them, or taxing at lower rates. .......... I was asking my young lad just this week about what they are being told and what they know about the North Sea Oil / Gas and they near and more distant future. His mates work there and around the world and plans are changing all the time over exploration and the various regions and what might happen. It is changing all the time and their employers and owners of licences and rigs can change at the drop of a hat.

The £17,000 not at the end of the advert as i see it. It is half way down the left hand side on the second picture. Font size not the issue. Easily missed i had to search even after being told it was in the advert.
  9. The truth is emissions are too high from everywhere. The reason North Sea oil wells are being decommissioned is not that there is no oil, or the difficulty recovering it, it is the actual emissions flaming on the rigs. Then at refineries & at cracking plants, and at power stations burning oil & gas. The big oil producing countries have their cartel and they decide the global pricing. It is a very complicated world but nobody producing energy or selling it is losing money.
  10. It was sarcasm. We already pay for lots for insurance or some do. Every reason under the sun, or no sun but flooding, wars around the world and energy costs / gas prices, chip or component shortages and any excuse that can be found is used because insurers want the profits and do have costs, wasted expenses. & basically everyone all along the line wants to make money out of insurance. If the additional costs of BEV,s being in accidents is really as high as is being made out then fair enough to load the insurance on BEV,s. If it is Battery Damage including flood damage and dealing with that or general repairs then maybe they can divulge which actual models have the highest claims on battery replacements from external objects of batteries that does not involve body damage.
  11. The systems are supposed to evolve into Self Driving Vehicles & the problems is EU & UK Commissioners without a clue ans allowing manufacturers and experts to decide what they want. VW Group were the ones taking Software In-house an ballsing that up, as they have over decades with many systems that they procure or try to drive costs down and sometimes end up buying into the companies or taking over, or even driving into the wall. Like some of their vehicles might drive you into a wall, ditch or oncoming vehicles. They are so far behind thew curve just as Ford are who are now a partner. They had Suzuki as a partner by trying to take them over and all that happened was Toyota lent Suzuki money to buy back the shares and then someone blew the whistle on VW & VW blamed minions for Defeat Devises & Bosch said, not us Gov we just design stuff and VW use it even if illegal or not fit for purpose. Then the EU just srug and do as the German Government want. Let the tail wag the dog. Or ESP keep them on the way to the future.
  12. Surely UK insurers are not going to have a class where cars can not be sold for spares or repairs if there is damage that means because they deem an electrified vehicle, BEV, PHEV or Mild Hybrid an uneconomic repair. There is going to be enough business with Electrified vehicles in accidents and incidents in the British Isles for Businesses Specialising in the Recovery, Storage, Assesment and repair or disposal / recycling of parts / vehicles. Well there are these Businesses already. Maybe it is the Government Agencies and the Insurers that need to be involved more on insuring the safe repair of vehicles and returning them to the roads. So far for decades they have never bothered much with who gets what, or if damaged vehicles even get reported as such to the Insurers. As to getting dodgy vehicles back on the road the UK has a system that makes it dead easy.
  13. Shirley might bring in a new category where not any part of a BEV or PHEV or Mild Hybrid can be used or repaired and not just because someone died in that vehicle. Do not hold your breath on that. The UK government need not do what the EU does. They can make the UK the safest place in the World, make EV insurance the highest in the world and all other insurance. Tax those Bl00dy Zero Emission cars off the road. Have manufacturers required to have 22% Zero Emissions cars first registered just in 2024 and rising in percentage until it is 80% then 100%. Write to your MP, the DfT and the DVSA and the Secretary of State for Transport Mark Harper MP. The Prime Minister and anyone else. I am sure they will not give a damn.
  14. Welcome. There are some threads on these in the General Automotive chat section. I will flag your post for Colin or a Mod to see.
  15. Take their shoes off once you strap them in and tell them not computer devices for 1 day every time they kick the car seat.
  16. Some people need help because they have not the common sense they were born with. They do not know a run flat tyre has blown out so in comes TPMS. They moan has no low screen wash warning. They ask why the low oil warning came on when the car had a service only 10,000 miles ago. Ask why the coolant warning came on. They ask why the Service indicator is telling them so many days til an Inspection and the car was only bought months ago and it had. Service. They walk and drive among us and some stuff now on cars is to protect us from the not very bright or interested. Keep them a bit safer might keep us. But then they never bother reading the Owners manual. Checking tyre pressures or if the lights work. They expect a warning. Like a red car showing they are too close. Or a beep that they are reversing into something. Or a warning the passengers seat belts are not on.
  17. But you might not need a new tyre. The sealant can be cleaned out, but a fitter might not want to be bothered. Repairs can sometimes be done. So do not just get landed with the cost of a replacement tyre because someone is being lazy.
  18. A main dealers might take about £115 + for changing spark plugs. So about £65 more than buying them. Brake fluid around £65. The thing is, a Full history can be a history of what was not done when it should be. Maybe not even checked. You want a history of servicing and maintenance actually carried out.
  19. Welcome. What is the History other than the Cambelt and Water pump? Was it variable servicing so 18,000-20,000 miles between oil changes. Is there a record of when the spark plugs, air filter, pollen filter and brake fluid was changed and anything on the AC being serviced? ? Is it a manual or a DSG, 7 speed DQ200?
  20. They are near 170 g/km though.
  21. Ask Skoda John Clark Aberdeen at least about what they can get and when, best not cut off your nose to spite your face. ? How were you ripped off at the service?
  22. Yes. Was it the dealer or a salesperson in the dealership? They work in the Dealership 5 or 6 days a week and their job is selling cars, Skoda cars, if they will not say or do not know and neither will the Dealer Principal or Finance Director then anyone else is taking a guess as to your order. Different Dealers are in different circumstances as to orders, allocations. Skoda / VW Group now have to first register in the UK 22% of Zero Emissions cars in 2024 and this will be interesting because they now need to ensure they can have enough ordered, built and sold / delivered in the year or they face big financial penalties. Also the Fleet Average C02 to meet in the UK.
  23. ^^^ Go with that then. & not with VW508 00 /509 00, 0w 20 FS IV.
  24. @Geox978Welcome to the forum. Which engine does your car have that manages to stall when in D? What RPM is the engine at when started and in P, and what is it at with your foot on the Brake and moved to D before touch the accelerator? It is not the same in all weathers is it, and if the AC is on, or cold and lots of load on the battery is it? How many miles / km on the car and when were the brakes last serviced?
  25. A 'Full Manufacturers Warranty' should and usually means 'Not yet first registered' and a Full Manufacturers Warranty of 3 years, 5 years or what ever'. Starting from when First Registered. Not just the Remainder of a Manufacturers warranty if the car has been First Registered, had one Registered Keeper and maybe a few week of the warranty all ready used up. Anyone getting a New Skoda still get a New Skoda even though it was not built in the UK and has arrived from Overseas and is at a Dealership here. Latest Model is a whole different thing.
