  1. Good. I thought the Greenline rear springs would be the same as was used as OEM on a Mk2 vRS, but i see they are not.

There is an issue with that as being reported on the telly today. Larger and heavier vehicles and manufacturers calling vehicles SUV's even when they are not. There is a campaign to stop SUV's being advertised as lifestyle vehicles when they are not 4x4's or Offroaders and not required to be by many just wanting big cars. Those 2 vids have a major error that many EV vids have. They talk about them being Family Cars, even talk about a business trip. So a business trip might be 1 person in the big heavy car or maybe more. All those cars need at least an extra 300 kg, maybe even 400kg put in them and then tell the range in the best of UK conditions. One person in large heavy cars will need to come to an end eventually in cities and congested areas and the VED should very much be on the weight & length of vehicles, even EV's. Well IMO.
  3. Does a little bit of oil taken from the bottom of the dipstick wiped where the top fits in the tube not resolve the hard to pull out issue?
  4. @caddyman26 Someone will know but that does not mean they use Briskoda or even social media. ? Did it have a Briskoda sticker on it?
  5. I heard an explosion outside and had no idea what it was. It was winter and the Jimny had been sitting a long time over winter not doing much. I found the broken part on the ground the next day and discovered the front spring broken. They are very long springs though and sit compressed when just parked. On Fabia vRS it is the driver's side front spring that commonly breaks and you can be unaware and maybe just hear grinding when you reverse.
  6. Thankfully at long last a sensible comparison between EV's for efficiency, range and charging speed. None of the ridiculous Pro Reviewer teleporting from vehicle to vehicle.

@TheWandererNot for you then unless you are going to be buying or driving an EV that can do very fast charging and there being very fast chargers available to you on your journeys. I think it is you that does not know from maybe not looking into what is known. The Battery and car manufacturers know and those running EV's long term and to high mileages like Taxi Fleets know perfectly well about charging and battery conditions and life and loss of capacity after time. Sometimes from a cell or 3 needing replaced.
  8. Not really ridiculous as there are failures happening with MCU's on Wet Clutch DSG's not even @ 40,000 miles or even 5 years old. Skoda / VW Group have had enough years for development to be having this as very rare event, but then it will be 5 years until you can tell how something built 5 years previously get on for reliability... Not that they can have 100% of any product not failing. VW Group are the ones that know how many MCU's need supplied as a part and for what ages of vehicles and they are not telling anyone other than maybe the Management Board.
  9. Put a little rust inhibitor or etch primer on chips and then a little paint, or even nail varnish. The broken spring was once like the nice new wrapped ones.
  10. There are millions of good DQ200's obviously. But in 2012 there was a World Wide Recall excluding Europe that got a Service Campaign.2009-2012 DQ200's In some world regions VW gave a 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty on them. Then 2017 there was a Service Campaign on some from 2013-2015. Then 2019 another recall in Australia on some from 2009-2015/16. There are TPI's on ones from 2015 -2017 for software update and there are uprated clutches. See Fabia Mk3 section on the 'Famous DQ200 Clutch Slip Thread'. Then there is the DQ200 issue with some 1.5TSI's from around 2018 on. So basically VW never remembered 'Vorsprung Durch Technik.' Well they have really as soon the DQ200's will only be in 1.0 & 1.5TSI's when they have Mild Hybrid. That is after they release the Mk4 Fabia with a 1.5 TSI with DSG only.
  11. Skoda manufacture 2,200 or more DQ200's a day and that used to be for 48 applications. If only 22 a day have premature failures, or failure in the warranty period than Skoda admitting to that would be good. What a shame that Skoda /VW have not the faith in their engineering that these DQ200's which have no Service Schedule /Guidelines or recommendations for services do not get a 120,000 mile / 10 year warranty & then wet clutch DSG's at least covered for 5 years / 60,000 miles and that being as a minimum of a warranty. Skoda do 5 year warranties in Australia and i assume that is when serviced to the manufacturers recommendation, or maybe they call it 'schedules'. 3 million DQ200's produced just by Skoda by 2019.
  12. So the question is, have they painted it, had it dipped or coloured in some way?

I understand about range but it was your comment on battery life I asked about. There are batteries with good life's now from EV manufacturers having 10 years experience. When VW have the new tech batteries we will be years from now before we know their life span. Currently a 3 hour journey of 150 miles takes me 3 hours setting off with a 98% battery. But a 150 miles in 2 hours 30 driving will take me 3 hours as I have to get a quick 20 minute charge to complete the last 20 miles. Obviously then at my destination or wherever I need to get the battery charged someplace, so that is about 70 minutes . But then I have not a big battery and there are no free chargers with more than 50kW speed. I have done 6,500 miles now with less than £13 paid for charging. I quite like that I can do 300 mile trips with charging being free and spend the £30 odd quid not spent on fuel on food. If I take my diesel I would be £60 on fuel.
  14. It was the thread one below this one you just replied on. The member who posted the picture is there. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/432269-air-filter @yankarinRG They last signed into the forum last October.
  15. There has been bad weather, also a pandemic. Those telling you where your car is now should be telling you the truth for this month.
  16. ? When were the spark plugs last replaced? Maybe new coils will be needed by the time you get them out and new plugs.
  17. You can do all that with a cut down Jimny, sit with a good heater on and also nip up and down the road and into town. Worth checking out the likes of a 2nd hand KAP Suzuki Jimny Pickup. http://kapsuzuki4x4.co.uk The new owner of my old one fitted a new bigger rear to it.
  18. No experience of them, but I saw them @Inverurie Garden Machinery. Looked OK. At least you have a Dealership near. I take it you are not going to buy online from further afield. It would not of been man (woman) enough for my needs when i used quads to tow offroad. I used to run bigger quads but went to using a Suzuki Jimny pickup instead.
  19. Welcome to the forum. I bumped the Air filter thread with the picture of the Red Airbox in it for you.

@TheWanderer what is the issue in 2021 with the battery life of cars now available?
  21. Bump for new member asking about a Red airbox.

@TheWandererThis will be just great on Continental Europe, even there you find those with Range Anxiety who might just not have checked out the infrastucture. The thing is that if you do not want or need an EV, there is no need to be driving one. Well that is mostly true, there are going to be more places where you might well need to be in a low emissions or zero emissions vehicle to enter. A Tesla & free supercharging would appeal to me if crossing the Channel for a road trip.
  23. I find that as diesel running correctly and a clean air filter is enough. Additives not required as it is Derv you are running anyway.
  24. @Cole. It is not a surprise how many criticise a vehicles handling having never checked tyre pressures. Even talking about modding a vehicle. That is not only new owners it is professional roadtesters like motoring journalists, bloggers, vloggers and floggers like car salespeople. Bloody dangerous risking you and others safety to someone you have never met setting tyre pressures on vehicles you are going to drive. The TPMS will need resetting if tyres pressures are changed. Needs checking anyway.
  25. EDIT people with Mk 3 Fabia 1.4TDI,s would have been very grateful for temp gauges as Skoda /VW managed to mess them up. Blaming the coolant and not VW. Eventually dealing with some lemons they built. Sadly they have left many buying used cars or cars out of warranty in the lurch. See top of MK3 section. ,...... Surely you know that unless in the coldest of air temps 10 miles of a drive even using all the gears will have the coolant at a normal operating temp. Then the car being MOT,d as soon as being handed in is a nice thing. At least if a re-test is required because of failing on emissions at a test. It has never been an issue that bothered me with older diesels and UK MOTs though.
