  1. Creating their own EV network is smart, just like it was for fuel stations. 1) it’s can be a loss leader to bring people to your stores 2) or you might make some money off it 3) people will likely do a big shop not a grab an item and fuel. 4) They don’t have to pay the third party so can afford to be cheaper. 5) They already have a bigger estate than any charging company. 6) Maintenance teams regularly visit the sites for store equipment so they should be maintained . 7) Bigger users get better commercial unit pricing. They already have a comprehensive set of sites over the whole country, many with cafe/restaurants. These sites have huge roofs and car parks, perfect for solar/battery to bring down the costs and offset the refrigeration costs of the stores too. Wouldn’t be bad to get some sites wind turbines too. Add 6 high 150kW/350kW to all large sites and a series of 7/11/22kW posts in the car parks and the can clean up. Police the high speed on idle time and charge after 15 minutes and both on being ICE’d and there’s an extra short term revenue stream. Offer a lower price per kWh if you buy something in store, scan your voucher before disconnect. So many stores near the main roads and motorways too, so I’m very pleased to see this. The big players have got too comfortable with some charging silly prices. https://smartcharge.co.uk
  2. Thanks the the OT EU posts… They can stop now on this thread thanks.
  3. if you’re happy for me to edit the first post, then put an updated post in the thread and PM me with a link/reminder and I’ll do it when next here. Freedom members get the ability to edit their own posts (See the freedom pages for details)
  4. I know the types, as a pedestrian the blind you too. Oddly most of them here loose their **** if you turn on your mountaineering torch and point it at the same angle they have their lights. Fundamentally the rules are there for all vehicles and actually the problem come from nobody bothering to enforce them. When they’re not actively enforced they might as well not be there as people ignore them. Selling halogen sized LED for off-road use only is a swizz. Bikes with lights up at 5 degrees upwards are not allowed, but common. Rather than new rules straight off, it might be useful to enforce those we have already.
  5. If you look at the first video in the article the flames appear to be coming from a reasonable way up the rear of the bus. Batteries usually are as low as possible and so I wouldn’t be certain they are the initial cause. circle back though, and whilst there a limited fires where that battery starts the fire there are probably more where something else does and could engulf the battery. As with all things there is a period of time until technology in one area catches up with another. In this case fire fighting tech and regulation will catch up and will need to. i now await hindenburg newspaper headlines for hydrogen powered freight.
  6. With all the wars fought over oil combined with politics, pollution and other issues around fuel… I’d rather they stuck up wind/tidal and base load generation and removed the input cost from everyone’s lives.
  7. The most glaring lights for me are police/emergency service blues in LED form. Fine in the day, but when it starts getting dark, they’re blinding to the point you can’t see. All they need to do is fit an ambient light sensor that enables/disables a dimming circuit or just run them at half brightness all the time. They’re so much brighter than older systems. Number of other vehicles have very bright lights, but again this could be improved by changing the light colour. Far too many high K lights, very blue in colour light out there. If they removed some blue and added some yellow (warm white not cool white) that would help. Personally I’m happy with pure yellow too, but I used to use them in winter so am used to them. Saying that self levelling was required for Xenon lights, but not for all LED. That’s something I would change too and also I’d probably ban the sale of LED bulbs in Halogen sizes.
  8. Fire quickly extinguished…Suggests not an EV. Silver car park = way away, and not multi story. Edit: that first comment from a Graeme on the links comments section suggests a tin foil hat is required by the poster. EV are a conspiracy to reduce the population and let country x take over the world. The government are in cahoots and it is one big cover up conspiracy man!
  9. Guessing it was stainless and not quite standard. Either way, I wouldn’t scrap it, but I would look to repair it. We’ve had a 20 year old “banger” on the drive that cost £25 to service, one expensive MOT at £700, a full service with every filter, HT sparks the lot for £100 and most MOT costing zero with a couple of sub £200. So 7 years £1100 for MOT/fixes plus £300 in services, or £200 a year average. That’s very cheap in my books and far cheaper than a replacement car on finance. If you’re looking to EV and get get one cheaply sure, but I still would get a price to fix.
  10. There are also parts for sale and breaking cars for sale sections available to freedom and freedom lite members.
  11. Please don’t post the same question in multiple areas.
  12. Yes… but it was only just starting to show the tiniest bit of damage at over 100k miles and 5 years old.
  13. Your car is a mk2 and you already created a thread there. Please don’t create multiple threads in different sections.
  14. Check the earth to the starter. not seen it on a mk3, but seen other cars where a rusted earth bond (negative) to the starter meant it wouldn’t turn over. it was cold today, are the glow plugs working?
  15. I’m ok with the offering a smaller battery as an option, but without a 400+ mile version than can do a real 330+ in winter on the motorway it’s not going to be enough to bring me back to the fold. Efficiency improvements would mean a 60 and an 80kWh would both have respectable ranges for winter motorway. Chargers are not good enough at the moment, particularly when busy/broken down due to age. Being comfortable that you can do it in one hit both ways is what I need along with a load lugging estate and 800V charging/batteries.
  16. I’ve moved it for you 👍 On the turbo check the actuator works properly and you may have a dirty/sticky VNT mechanism. What sort of mileage/driving style does the car get?
  17. So essentially we’re probably limited to around 120kW, but for occasional stop off it should give a decent charge in 30 minutes. When the do support 800v, we would be on an 15 minute charge to compete with ionity etc. I do agree i just need the silly money vendors with 350kW chargers to feel the competition and get back down to sub 50p and ideally even lower. It is a shame that Tesla have made some interior design choices I just couldn’t live with (touchscreen and lack of stalks now)
  18. They’re far from the only ones. InstaVolt are pretty expensive too. I’ve now added Tesla for non Tesla charging as a backup option.
  19. Fine by me as long as they properly support 800V charging up to around 300kW. I have an 800V car, and the next one will be 800V as well, because it makes such a huge difference to the time at chargers.
  20. If they had not removed wiper /indicator stalks I might have considered one.
  21. Shame some companies are hacking the prices through the roof. We got an update from shell that prices are now north of 80p /kWh, which means she’ll (and others) are now emergencies only. At this rate they’ll price themselves out of the market or if they all do it, substantially shrink that market.
  22. Should be covered by warranty IMHO, as they essentially sold a defective car to you. Is the warranty a skoda warranty as if so I’d be tempted to talk to other dealers in the background if this lot are refusing. I wouldn’t be driving the car anywhere though with a split bag.
  23. Is it the dealer you purchased it from?
  24. It might be worth popping a new pair of bulbs in just to rule out a cracked filament causing it. If this only happened post LED, then the old bulbs are probably fine.
  25. If it isn’t a fault there was a coding where: Off = everything off Auto = DRL on and dimmed+ others as needed. Others = Dimmed DRL + corresponding lights. I’m too am surprised they need to be turned off, but different countries have different laws, so not sure that I would be in a position to question it.
