  1. Love them myself, but then we live in the dark, dark, wood where animals live in the hidden corners of the roadside. Cornering lights show where they are.
  2. Run the heater at full for five minutes or so to really warm the plastic up and it's easier (but may not be a problem in summer weather...!). I've done mine (fitted a media cable) and my wife's (changed a yeti Bolero for a Columbus) and in both cases started on the top right corner next to the steering wheel.
  3. I have just got a 'Bip and Go' RFI (radio) tag for Autoroutes in France. Small box is attached to the windscreen and gets read by the auto toll gates which means no queuing to pay - just one monthly Direct Debit. However heated windscreens can interfere with the signal and the company say most manufacturers leave a clear space (without wires in the screen) for this purpose. Anyone know if this is true for Superb?
  4. May not help but I download hours of R4 podcasts onto SD card for long continental journeys. The BBC website is a goldmine.
  5. Major problem on Friday. Mrs' Yeti had a flat tyre, changed it for the spare, and went to the tyre dealer. When I got there, no locking nut to get the spare off. Nor when I got back home where I'd made the first swap. Conclusion - I must have driven off with it on the wheel and lost it. It was now 1610 on a Friday - and I flew at 0800 yesterday to Houston, and Mrs needed her car fixed before I went. But, rang Meadens garage, they said to bring it in and they'd unlock the spare with their security set, identify which key nut and order it. Tip Top, off we went. Even better though, having identified the key nut, service manager had a 'spare' spare of the right design on his bench, provenance unknown (what are the chances of that...and no, it wasn't my original someone had handed in). He donated it for free to Mrs' Yeti, and I made a good donation to the charity box. Simply wonderful, what good proper service, with a bit of luck thrown in to be fair, should be about. When we bought Mrs' Yeti in January (2nd Skoda now in the stable, I have Superb L&K) there was a buyer in Meadens who'd travelled from Cornwall to buy on reputation and price. Now that's a bloomin' long way. But I am not surprised..they're simply excellent.
  6. Here's a new one. Got stopped three months ago in Strasbourg with a rear number plate hanging off my '62 Superb Combi at 10 in the night. Plate originally stuck on by UK dealer. Gendarmes were really friendly, escorted me to my hotel and asked me to get it fixed the next morning. They said law in France is plates need to be screwed on. I got a tyre place to do it. Then today (as I drove from home to Muenster, Germany) spotted a Gendarme in the petrol station just off the Chunnel in Calais checking plates of UK cars as I refuelled...I walked him why...it's now a €60 fine for stuck-on plates. Not such a nice Gendarme. First time I've felt glad I was 'screwed'...
  7. Interesting related issue, which I'm still thinking through. I've been unable to lock my Kessy combi several times. Maxidot says 'key not found' even though it's been in my pocket or hand. Occasionally unable to start for same reason. Random hitting key buttons, door touch points, start button have eventually sorted it...but no logical pattern. On one time in Germany took half an hour to lock it. And then, it happened at my dealers (while visiting to discuss wife's car) and I got the techs to have a look, then even took a picture of maxidot. They said 'we'll sort it at service'. So this week it went for service. I reminded them of problem when I booked it in...and asked at end. 'We couldn't find a fault' they said. I pointed out that it had one, they'd even pictured it...but was told to 'monitor the situation'. Not sure what this will achieve...it has an identified problem, and they've witnessed it whether or not it's showing onntheir computer. When I asked what to do if it gets worse...or abroad...and the advice was 'call the AA' and wait. Am I being hoodwinked? Car is one yr old, under waranty and this was its first 20,000 mile service. I feel I'm being left out in the rain...
  8. My L&K combi just back from service this morning. They did a software update to the air con - apparently the motor position and baffles were wrong, hence a service update. Which may the the answer to the recirculation issue.
  9. I've seen OEM alloys go through eBay for £500 for folks swapping to a winter tyre. May offer a route which ultimately will cost £250. Bit of a risk...but they always make good money esp. brand new.
  10. Old credit card does the trick. I started on a top corner and worked round. Other tip is run the heater and warm the car up...makes the plastic less brittle. Or wait to summer.
  11. You know some people say 'I stepped out after 500 miles and felt as fresh as when I started'? Well, they were talking about my car. Love it as you'll love yours.
  12. They're model dependent and standard on Elegance and L&K.
  13. Fitted a Columbus in my wife's Yeti. Assume it previously had one (bought s/h ten days ago from dealer) as when I removed the Bolero, I found GPS lead already in and dangling. Also VCDS recognised it, including nav in multi display. BUT, Columbus map and nav is consistently showing about 100 metres out of position -South and East. Didn't know this was possible. As we live near a rail line, it tries to start routes (from home) on the other side of the rail - which is over a mile by road. And when driving spends a lot of its time saying 'Off Road' when I am clearly on one. Anyone else? Any ideas? Is there an offset adjustment?
  14. We bought a s/h Yeti Elegance 2012 (Skoda pre-owned) from Meadens, Sway (New Forest) this week for 'er indoors. Good service, and good residual on 5 y.o. i10. Collecting in front of us was a customer from Cornwall. They must be doing well!
  15. If the installers damaged the part, then they should replace it? Otherwise there are several Yeti's in scrappage if you do a Google search.
  16. I have it on my car, and am currently in Bydgoszcz, Poland where it is minus 10. I hit the stop/start and the car starts in about three seconds. There isn't normally this delay so I assume that is the pre-heater working. Very quick though. All I need is a snow plough attachment for the bonnet!
  17. Mrs Brockysuperb asks why the clock on the Columbus (when turned off) can't be a nicer, larger, possibly analogue with a sweep second hand, in keeping with the car and not a 1980's clock radio which is far smaller than the screen allows?
  18. Try for a reduction (12750?) but do the deal. First you also have to factor in what you do if this deal doesn't happen - searching for another car, paying for transport interim, finding one, it may, may not be more expensive, getting it to your home. Then factor in if you do get another (and assuming it's pre-owned)...who owned it, how was it driven, can you trust the narrative, will it have new tyres (doubtful), will it not just have FSH but recently serviced (doubtful, even if it's got the stamp in the book as dealers routinely do this for their forecourt). Bird in the hand... esp if you can get something extra off...
  19. Removable and washable insert in bottom of drinks holders...
  20. As I'm close to a service they'll look then and I'll let you know. I've found them very helpful.
  21. Hi Hedgecutter, Happened to me also...middle of the one way system in Cologne was a panicked moment. And several other occasions. No rhyme, reason, pattern. Like you 62 plate Combi (l&k standard fit) so there may be a batch issue. Mentioned it my dealer Meadens (may be the same as you) and they'll pick it up at first service in a couple of months.
  22. So, as Christmas approaches, a bit of time to reflect. And to think how next year may be further improved. Now 2013 saw the arrival of my Superb...so thoughts turn to that and...what Santa could bring for my car... On very long drives I long for a cup of tea - especially abroad. I can take my PG Tips and milk...but what about the water. Then I notice the engine oil is circulating at 105 degrees...wouldn't it be clever to use that heat to make my tea? Or, a fold away hook in the front passenger foot well by the gear stick so bags of quickly grabbed takeaway or shopping don't slide about? Or, an auxiliary power socket hidden behind the cover by the fuses, so things like a road camera can be plugged in and the wire taken behind the A pillar cover to the top of the windscreen. Or an indentation on the driver seat back so my back trouser doesn't always snag it getting in. Grrrrr... Any more? Happy Christmas!
  23. Guess you'll be stopping your 4 year old's pocket money for the next ten years... Good luck!
  24. Yup, that would dandy in Morrison's car park on a Saturday morning.
