  1. My early build L&K got a recall in Feb for the connector behind the glove box. No problem found. But got a full valet for the inconveneience. Car was in for 90 minutes and most of that was the wash and blow dry! Was a specific Skoda letter/recall though.
  2. My second leather seated Superb. Never done more than a damp cloth as advised to clean from time to time. Current car has beige which should show up dirt and even the only once in nine months. I do have some leather wipes which impregnate something and will use them once a year or so. A dealer (for another prestige brand) once told me that's all that is needed, pointing out that unlike shoes (for example) you're on the outside of the leather and constantly rubbing and polishing it. Beware sharp items such as metal jeans badges which may scratch though.
  3. DSG every time. Mine on a deisel, and performance, esp with kick down is excellent. More though I am fresh as a daisy after long journeys and as stated with ACC, it makes things really easy. MPG is still around 45 - 50 for mixed driving. Falls to arohnd 38 if I spend hours at 100 mph on an Autobahn. It's not an kld man thjng (I'm 56) it is about driving efficiency and pleasure. No one has the age debate about Lane Control or ACC for example! On paddles, it's personal choice but you can get an idea by flicking the lever left and using the gearbox manually.
  4. Yes, combi, never had it before, now won't want a car without. Especially for parking in spaces, or white lines to check you're inside the box and not hanging over the back. Also in supermarkets etc with peolle walking behind to check they are out of the way and not in a blind spot.
  5. Blackvue user. Leave in and leave on. Has a power sensor which turns off if battery falls too low (from memory 11.2v). But that means it runs for two or three days if parked and some pesky varmint tries to interfere, or a poor parker cluncks me.
  6. Winter about three miles. Right now about two...measured on the same journey, 40mph speed limit, some small hills (make the engine work harder and heat up quicker). That's temp guage to 90.
  7. Ditto LV. Full Europe cover too...but £320 not £189 as above. Friendly, helpful, clear in their comms.
  8. Wanted to measure my tyres the old fashioned way - as philsmith said. He's right. On the 16 inch wheels, the tyre diameter is 25 inches (measured the hard way) so the circumference is 78.5 inches. On the alloy wheels the circumference of the tyres is 83.25 inches (diameter 26.5 inches). The difference is around eight per cent. Bear in mind both wheels and tyres come from Skoda themselves - one alloy original with the car, the other steel supplied for winter use. Reference GaSelle; I'm sorry, may have just been the L&K combi or even a UK mod, but you definitely used to be able to adjust for this change in size on the Maxidot under the winter tyres setting. But not it appears on the Mk 3. (Or rather, I can't find it in the manual or on the in-car menu..and Skoda UK technical brains 'suspect' that's the case...). Any ideas anyone? Either how to compensate for different rolling wheel sizes...or about the remarkable ability of Skoda UK to RFM (as I can also do...).
  9. Just changed back from winter tyres (on 16 inch wheels) to the supplied alloys (18 inch) for the spring and summer. Immediately I've noticed the speedometer become more accurate...judged against my GPS. I remembered that with my Mk 2 Combi under the winter tyres setting on Maxidot, I could change the wheel size plus and minus (up to 15 per cent from memory). So went a-hunting... The only winter tyre setting I could find was to set a speed limit warning. So I checked the manual...it (page 221) says the same. So I rang Skoda customer services...and their genius suggestion is to...'read the manual'. I pointed out that I had done that already, so was put again on hold while the technician was contacted again. They came back and said the technician had also read the manual and 'suspects' there is no longer a size setting on the Mk3. 1) Can anyone confirm that the wheel size setting which used to be on the Mk2 Maxidot has now gone. That seems totally daft given the car comes with different size wheels, or in my case swaps wheel size depending on season (the winter wheels having been supplied by Skoda also...)? Is there a way round it to ensure the speedo remains correct (and the mileage is also correct - I now realise I'm showing about 5k mileage now, but have probably only done about 4.5k due to the 16 inch wheels revolving quicker!) 2) Has anyone else use Skoda customer services...and been told to 'read the manual'. Then when pressing been told 'the technical expert has also now read the manual'. Is there any 'expert' available at Skoda who actually knows about the technical aspects of these cars beyond the manual...which surely is the whole point? I have still not got beyond 'We suspect it's been deleted from this model', which is not clear cut at all. For what it's worth I 'suspect' it also! What I'd like is a definitive answer from the suppliers, and hopefully an explanation of both why and how to remit the issue. Hrrumphhh.
  10. Meadens, New Forest. First class, quick, friendly, professional.
  11. I had them on my II from SuperSkoda...came to the conclusion they added noise for little benefit.
  12. Out of interest...on my Mk II L&K I could see the heated windscreen wires in some lighting conditions. On the Mk III L&K I cannot see wires at all...but it works well none the less. Does it use new heated windscreen tehcnology?
  13. I love the smile this car gives me so often...and the 'Wow didn't expect that' from sceptics...
  14. Hi BillyJim, mine don't change automatically, but oddly I expected issues with ACC in France, Germany, such as overtaking. There were none but whether this is because it's detected different country, I don't know. Interesting comment above about 'bodge'. No, this is simply a (Skoda supplied) setting in the car menu...like return home lights, or dash illumination level.
  15. Ditto...live in New Forest, regularly drive to London and Channel Ports. Also been down to Cornwall twice which used to be notorious in my Mk 2 for radio on FM and self installed DAB (both the A35 and North Cornwall itself). Now really faultless reception. Worth getting dealer to check aerial connections?
  16. Swap right hand driver to left hand driver in the lighting menu. Done, no need to afix anything to mthe light. You will get a warning on maxidot from time to time to remind you.
  17. Used a Brodit proclip from my Mk 2 (which fits neatly beside the gearstick, used to be beside the radio where everyone's leg hit it)) and added a wireless charger pad for my Samsung. About half an hour of DIY, removing the back of the Samsung charger and mating it (drilled two small screw holes) to the Brodit. All I have to do is drop the phone on, and it's charging. USB is permanent from the socket and lead goes in front of the sliding phone box cover. Advantages are that it's simples to use, just drop the phone on (but I can also squeeze the clip tight if I want), much easier to press buttons etc with hand balances on DSG lever, doesn't get knocked. Disadvantages are that it's not in eyeline (but then again not so obvious to thieves), and it hides the auto park button (but I know it's there...).

  19. As comments above - LV= have looked after me/us for the last eight or nine years since MoreThan did a hike. Renewal through the door today, £281.63, for a 190 L&K, 4x4, DSG, fully comp, one other named driver (SWMBO - whose own Yeti is also LV=), £300 xs, and up to 15000 miles a year work and business in UK and Europe (I'm a company director). That includes Legal Insurance (£23.65), G'teed Courtesy Car (£18.90) and Foreign Use for the year fully comp (£18.90), so I could shave another £61.45 off if I didn't want frills. I've never needed to make a claim (maybe why it's so low - no claims is 9 years/79.5% max), but Which? recommend them highly. And at that price, I don't bother to look around believing in a long term relationship...seems to pay off for me. (Other than car insurance which renews automatically no relationship with LV=).
  20. Best car I've ever had. 3000 miles done, engine loosening and even mpg is fine.
  21. Bins, black and beige are on Fleabay...Skoda originals from Czech Republic. Search 'Skoda Bin'.
  22. Frankly I find it a flippin nuisance, slow to restart primarily, and can't wait to get to VCDS to turn it off (raise the trigger voltage). Works only too well and frequently in my opinion, from cold start.
  23. To add...drove to deepest, darkest Wales yesterday (kidding...to the beautiful valleys of West Wales). Regular route, kid to Uni. Radio used to fade in and out on FM. Now with MkIII DAB, it was faultless throughout. Not a drop out. So, TV reception is not as good as Mk2, radio is much better. Curate's egg, anyone?
  24. My DAB switches regularly to FM...or wont tune. But more, this is the second L&K I've had with a TV tuner. Lots of places where TV was fine in my last Mk2, the new car won't get a signal. Either stationary for example when waiting for kids (so in places where I know I used to be able to watch TV), or sound only when driving. In cities, high ground, low ground. Only thinking about it today...and concluded its an aerial issue which ties it to the DAB comment.
