Red Dot Racing Remap, Furby vRS -

Featured Replies

morning

spotted this on Friday, emailed them and they reckon on 185bhp @ the fly but couldn't spec a torque figure, only 232 on the graph (see auction).

they say it's a custom remap for the Fabia vRS (plus others - see the link)

they 'seem' to be a reputable-ish company, they supply brake products for loads of cars.... and whenever I drive past them (they are walking distance from my office) they have all manner of drift kitted Skylines and 200SXs etc etc

Red Dot Racing Remap

worth investigation or not?

seems cheap......anyone brave enough? :D

dubious re the torques. and a SILLY bhp figure. haha.

I've not heard good things about their maps on some RenaultSport Meganes, and the fact they sell through eBay and at that price - I'd go somewhere else.

A classic case of getting what you pay for. They might be fine, but I'd not take the chance myself....

Steve

Red Dot racing are an ok company I think, they used to be pretty well respected in the SMART car world. They sell via franchises and pretty much anyone can setup as a franchisee, so much so that IIRC they offer a sign up bonus to existing franchisee's.

You buy the kit from them and then buy the maps on and as & when basis.

I've heard that they like to slag off other companies as well.

See this thread. Be aware: anyone offering a custom remap without access to a rolling road is having you on... :thumbdwn:

A custom map can be done on the road as well as on a rolling road.

It's not uncommon for X mapper to discredit Y mapper.

Google Revo vs APR if you have a spare hour to kill.

I really don't like red dot racing... if only because of their "we are better than everyone else, and every other remapper is crap" attitude on the fiat forums... right up their own **** if you ask me.... they really do slag of angel tuning... but I like my angel map, nige is a top bloke, the company has a good attitude, but according to red dot, my map is a crap map! ffftttt.

their maps may be ok, but I certainly wouldn't buy from them...

I also don't trust their RR figures regardless of what they say... they say ALL fiat 1.4t-jet (grande punto sportings) are putting out circa 140bhp.... which has to be ******** seeing as fiat say its 120bhp.......

I'm sure they may say 185 bhp at the fly... just get it done, get them to prove it on their RR (or one that they "use" as they don't have their own) then take your car to awsomes RR day (NW section) so we can see the real figures... then I can go on the fiat forums, and rip them about it.....

Red Dot have a rolling road in Watford and i have seen good things from them on both petrol and diesel cars. Nice people from what ive seen

hhmmm... each to their own... mine is just an "opinion" I'm not saying they can't map cars..... I just don't like their attitude.......

edit: and they said they used other peoples RR's.... maybe we're talking about two different franschises.....

Yes it's a mobile RR ;)

I have been to them to watch a RR day where as normal some were happy and some were not

were the happy ones the ones with red dot maps, and the unhappy ones the ones with maps from other tuners?

This was when the first moved in there and had a few RR days!

I think they had some issues setting the mobile RR up?

As mentioned a lot of the Fiat guys use Red Dot but they are really good at throwing poo at other tuners.

There is a bit more info over at the Fiat forum (The punto section is full of kids who want to know the best place to by neons) if you feel inclind to look.

Mind you, 185bhp  No matter how good the map it aint gonna get that and if it does it won't be running for long.

Hang on.... peak torque 232lbft??? That's about 315nm....

Bottom right hand corner says 145.7bhp.... is the WHP or FHP, whats the correction on it?

Hmm, Angel Tuning (great bunch of guys by the way) used to be Red Dot agents but interestingly they are no longer selling Red Dot stuff, see this archived webpage where Angel used to sell Red Dot brakes.

What does this say, bit of a fall out maybe, but still no excuse for Red Dot slagging off other tuners. :(

What about your clutch Dave? :P

I'd go to jabba or someone who specialises in these engines if i were to get a remap ;)

Ps, send my damn photo cd :D

I've just had a Red Dot remap, on their rollers in Enfield & my thoughts are that they are really decent people & the most professional tuners I have yet come across. I've dealt with a number of VAG & Smart tuners (don't ask lol!) & IMHO this company are the best I've ever dealt with. Four times on the rollers, with a Map as bespoke as you want it. The smoothest, strongest VAG map I've ever encountered, with constant reminders from Augusto of the limits with regard to the running gear, ie turbo, clutch etc. They're not in the habit of mapping cars that go bang after a thousand miles! All in all I'm very happy with my Fab now, its never run as smooth, eager to rev & to be honest it feels like a different engine, almost like a large petrol 6cyl, or maybe a new 2.0T. It really is THAT GOOD! Honestly guys, don't knock them 'till you've tried them, it's easily the best £199 (!) I've ever spent. When word gets out how good their work is, it won't be that price for long. Hope this makes one or two of you consider them, as I'm very very pleased! Cheers, Jim.

Sounds like your happy with your remap mate... one bit of advice tho go down to a reputable Rolling Road and see what your results are!!

Thats what i did & i wasnt to happy with the results, so i decided to get a another remap from a reputable company with a proven record & i couldnt beleive the difference... it was like driving a different car.

You seem to have a lot to say about them considering it is only your first post.... at least make it credible! If I get one of your (sorry I mean Red Dots!) maps and say nice things about it, can I be on the company payroll too?

In fairness, CFS did join up late last year, so if he is related to Red Rot then he been very patience in posting a reply to this thread ;):D

:+1:

Thanks for the abuse guys.

I'd just like to say that I'm nothing to do with Red Dot whatsoever, if I were on their payroll I'd be more than happy! Sadly I'm not & I must say I'm a little disappointed with some people's attitudes on here, regarding casting ridicule on something they have never tried.

I HAVE tried Red Dot & found their product & service to be very satisfactory. I do believe that all I did was to answer the question asked by the original poster. Did I not?????

I think some people on here should get off the 'I love XYZ tuning' bandwagon & actually be open to trying out other companies. I knew of Red Dot from the SMART world also & of their good reputation there. These guys are just trying to earn a living, just like every other tuner out there.

The reason why I left it so long to post was that I've only just got the Fabia back as my day to day driver, having previously owned it, sold it & re-acquired it.

Hope this puts things straight. Nice to meet you all.

BTW cheers Tim!
