right i got my clutch to replace my fecked parts, problem is nobody except skoda themselves has an officail time for a 1.8t 4x4, but a lot of people have the time for the TDi 4x4. the average for the tdi is about 3.5 hours and skoda quote 8.5 hours to change my clutch, in my mind the tdi and 1.8t should take the same time but i ain't no mechanic. are skoda trying to rip me off??

1.8t 4x4 would be he same as a Golf four motion which we usually charge 5 hours labour.

On a 4x4 the front subframe usually has to come off so it will require allignment check afterwards.

Depends how quick the techie is and how many they have done.

Personal Best for an 02M Six speeder in a S3 is 2 hours myself but that was going as it, theres a fair bit of work envolved.

Also that didnt include 4WA, managed to convince the apprentice to do that bit

so me getting qoutes on 8 hours labour is not needed then, and 1 garage today qouting me

Service , maintenance and repair , ..........basically it is the time allowed , or chargeable for each job ...............if they say a clutch is 3.5 hours , then that is the max the garage should charge , for labour .

Normally , it would be clutch plate , pressure plate and release bearing ......most surprised if it needed a flywheel

What they are trying to charge you is for clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing ..............

Bengie has got the parts himself I believe from IP and is looking for someone to fit said components, so its only the labour he interested in.

3 points to manny for a perfect answer, i do indeed have sat on my back seat a single mass lightened balanced flywheel and a sachs uprated clutch with all associated bits excluding bearing-guide-sleeve thingy and some oil.

its a shame about the dealer quoting me so much cos they been absolutely marvelous about everything else. no i can actually quote a time for getting done when everyone says they cant find the 4x4 in their book

Bengie, isnt there somewhere near you. perhaps an independant clutch specialist (not the likes of mr clutch) who could fit your parts. I would guess the labour rates will be much less.

Call Awesome GTi. I use Dealer for servicing only. They are about 20 mins from Trafford.

IIRC your of these parts so it's not far. They know the VAG stuff well enough. I'd use them for this job, or PM skodaspanner.

uh colin, i think your memory might be failing you right now. i'm in oxford and according to the AA its about 3 hours and nearly 170 miles from me so i think i'll give that one a miss
