Some Fabia vRS Questions

Featured Replies

Hello :) ,

Been looking at getting a Fabia vRS. I currently have a Civic Type R, but I want something a bit cheaper to run for a while. (buying a house). So heres my questions.

1) Wheres the best place to buy? Drive the deal are doing one with xenons for

Welcome Smartie.

Nice choice of car you have there :)

1) I don't think there's a place that's systematically the "best" one to buy. It's worth phoning around to see what local dealers can do too. Pricing was fairly high a couple of months ago due to lack of availability, or rather over-polularity of the smog monster rollerskate as we like to affectionally call it :P Now, you may be able to get a good deal.

2) 100et35 I think. No doubt the techies will correct / confirm

3) I don't think so. Ross (Ross Clarke) tried some time ago, and couldn't avoid rubbing the arches when turning. 205/40/17 tyres will fit though.

4) Can't tell - I haven't been (yet :D), but from the amount of grins, I'd say very ;)

Any more questions, just fire away :)

There was a post recently about a yellow one seen on 18"s - I think they will just go on with 35 profile tyres but I wouldnt fancy it myself - the ride on my 40 profile is hard enough thanks

Mine has been revo'd and apart from standing starts and 100mph plus it will at least match a CTR..........

However IMO the handling on a standard Furby vRS is abysmal - if you like a sporty set up then budget

Welcome mate

18's could be done but its a fair bit of work and they dont handle aswell as 17's.

You would need to arch trimming/rolling and 215/35 18 tyres. They would also have to be 7.5 inches wide or less. PCD is 5 x 100 and ET around 35 on this size wheel. Mine are ET32 TT wheels with 205/40 17 tyres as Xavier mentioned.

Been out in one Jabba'd Fabia which was very impressive, but not quite enough for me ;)

I too had a look on Drive the deal and for all the options, ie

Xenon headlights + headlight washers

ESP

Sunroof

Side air bags

Front airbag de activation switch

Cruise control

Pearlescent paint (I presume Black Magic is Perlescent?)

i used Drive the deal and they were excellent. paid

17" wheels offer the best compromise between looks and not wreking handling. there are several options to tune these beasts ranging from a tuning box... a selection of remaps to hybrid turbos.. atho youll start having clutch and flywheel problems above 190bhp.

Diesels aint quick off the line.. and dont feel quick coz of the long gearing... but all it takes is a glance at the speedo to see over a ton in 4th gear :D

i couldnt think of a more extreme opposite of a car to come from.. you aint used to the torque

As mob says.. budget for suspension, especially if your planning to remap it. also brakes wouldnt go amiss (ive got 312mm and racing pads on the front of mine, ross has brembos)

I bought my car 2 days after the Fabia vRS went on general sale.. got it for

I also used drive the deal and have no complaints whatsoever :)

Ok guys thanks for the feedback on 'Drive the deal' i'm just about ready to order but I have one more question

Since i'm saving some dosh on the list price and filling my machine with options should I get the Symphony CD autochanger. I'm not very practical and if this unit can be used when I upgrade the head unit would it be prudent for me to get it factory fitted? I will be upgrading to the Pioneer DEH-P77MP as soon as I get the car. I can't stress enough how I would not want to be running wires myself in a new car I really am pants. :boing:

So as long as the Symphony unit can be used with other head units, ie the Pioneer my gut feeling is to get it fitted at the factory.

IIRC the Symphony autochanger cannot be used with any other H/U, so save the cash and put it towards modifying the Furbie when you get it :D

Cheers for the replys :)

Yeah the Civic is a bit of a different beast to the vRS, have test driven a Ibiza Tdi FR and was quite impressed(although changing gear below 8000rpm will take getting used to ;))

Le Car Centre in Finchley is just up the road, ill pop down and see what they can do for me.

(Am I mad, the yellow one is tempting me!!!!)

Update:

I must say, Drive the Deal are very good so far, they called me 9am this morning to confirm and the dealer who will be supplying my car just called at 11.00am, still have to wait for delivery date though. Watch this space. :D

Is there any info on basic upgrades of this type' date=' ie I read about a brace to tighten up the front end and I don't have any idea what this is and what it does but i'm willing to learn. [/quote']

Very worthwhile even if you have a standard setup - it tightens the front up a fair bit and the steering feels sharper

Thanks again for the info. I think that will be the 1st thing I add once i've got used to the car a little.

I read your comments re your suspension with interest, being someone who would have work done rather than fiddle with the car myself (at first at least) is there a suspension upgrade route to take that does not require so much tweaking. Kind of fit and forget but still an upgrade and more sporty feel than the standard kit or am I worrying over nothing and it's as simple as turning a screw to adjust :P

Do these changes void your warrenty in any way?

It depends on the dealer. IIRC devonutopia's dealer (since gone) told him that suspension/wheel mods would invalidate the warranty completely. Other dealers may take the much more reasonable view that only the suspension (or even just the parts replaced) is not covered. But if the suspension changes are major to the extent that the car's ride is much harder, for instance, the dealer might say that could lead to other parts failing. Sound out your dealer and, if you don't like what you hear, sound out another.

Have a read of the warranty which you can find here.
