Some Fabia vRS Questions

Featured Replies

I'd follow Denis's advice and speak to your dealer as a few people have had problems with their warranty after doing mods.

I read your comments re your suspension with interest' date=' being someone who would have work done rather than fiddle with the car myself (at first at least) is there a suspension upgrade route to take that does not require so much tweaking. Kind of fit and forget but still an upgrade and more sporty feel than the standard kit or am I worrying over nothing and it's as simple as turning a screw to adjust :P

[/quote']

With the Koni set up, the rears have to be set before you fit them - I have them on softest and it feels about right. Adjusting them is just done by pushing the rod all the way in and turning it 180 degrees at a time - very simple, but if you change your mind when they are on the car (too hard or too soft) then they'll have to come off again for adjustment.

The fronts are top adjustable - just use the gadget provided to turn the adjuster on the top of the shock, there is no need to remove them from the car :D

You can get non-adjustables (not sure if Koni do them) and they are cheaper...........but I am so impressed by the Konis that I'm glad I got them

Thanks again for the info guys, will have a read up about all these thinngs, 38 years young and just starting to learn about cars...

I suppose/hope that is one good reason to buy new, if i trade in every 3 years (finances permitting) I should never have to worry too much.

I think for starters I will stick to the brace and then upgrading the sound system and worry about the more complicated stuff when I have got used to the car and the way it handles then I can learn more about which bit does what. Slightly lower and stuck to the road does appeal to me though...

I'm glad I kept my garage on, it's been used for storage for the last 20 years and it's taken me a year to sort it out just to make enough room for a car, we just managed to get my fathers Fabia in there so hurrah!

It's amazing how much junk you can collect over the years, stuff that you won't ever use, but when it comes to getting rid of it you just can't.... drastic measures are needed, hand me that flame thrower.... :P

What you save in fuel you are surely going to lose in changeover and depreciation costs. I have a jabba'd furby and love it but given a chance would far rather be uprading to a type r than doing what u are going to.

Tiff Needel has been round a racing circuit in both flat out and only one was a serious drivers car - not mine. Think of it as a fairly fast cruiser and things will be fine. If you see you'r old car on the road (esp twisty one) think twice before giving chase!

Good luck

Hmm, I thought the general trend was diesel engined cars depreciate less than petrol ones

I will be saving on fuel and insurance. Already lost the money on the Civic had it over 2 years, 16k new, selling for 10.5ish. And ideally I dont want to get rid of it as its a bloody fantastic little car. But im spending circa

And everyone rates the vRS as a good drive.

The vRS is indeed a good drive, but I think a lot of people either may expect too much or have the wrong idea about this car. Firstly, it will not be as focused a drivers car as a Civic Type R, and no amount of mods will ever make this be, IMO, or at least for a reasonable cost.

Not only that, but the Type R is a 15-16k car the Fabia is a 12k car, so not really in the same class.

The vRS is not the fastest or best handling car for

Im not expecting it to compete with the Civic. I know what it is and its capabilities (Ive driven a Ibiza TDi FR, which is similar)

I very much doubt I will mod it either, was just curious as to its potential :)

To be honest its a stop gap, to try to save a little cash on petrol, while I get sorted and move house, etc etc :). But it does look a cracking all round car and reasonably priced to boot.

Hi Bud

Drive deal use a UK dealer who obviously supply big discount because of the bulk orders they receive. Im gonna order mine with Drive the deal in Sept . Waitng for facelift, not me but the car. I need it too. Doubt if dealers will take your part ex ! Dabs usually are upfront as well after 1k deposite. He who dares ! makes the savings !

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread before!

I got mine from Paul at Le Car Centre in Finchley and he really knows his stuff. He has sold me 2 Fabia's now and I would go back again in the future without a doubt. I drive past there on my way home almost every evening, so if you spot a yellow Furby with black wheels around there, give us a flash! ;)

So how would you compare the three (CTR, vRS, FR TDI/petrol)?

Am interested in a CTR as a second motor for myself or the missus, especially now that the vRS Fab was canned in Holland. I know the Civic should be much better in many respects, but by how much? And are there any downsides/pitfalls?

You can always trust Jeff and Alex to make something out of a simple comment like mine! :D;)

Life would be boring otherwise. ;)

Bit like comparing chalk and cheese really.

Im quite gutted I have to chop in the CTR as I have loved every minute of owning it.

Civic has excellent handling, if a little numb steering. Vtec is great fun, sweet engine note, loads of power. Its relatively easy to drive fast once you get used to the gearing and having to rev it a lot :). Probably one of the best gearboxes on the market and the strange at first positioning of the gearstick turns out to be amazingly well placed. (you wont want to go back to a "normal" gear stick position afterwards).

A few dont like it as an everyday car as the suspension and setup gives it a hard ride, but personally I can put up with it because as soon as you hit a nice twisty road its a joy to drive :).

Its not a perfect car but its definately a hot hatch in every sense of the word. Plenty of reviews around to get a more in depth idea.

(New CTR out in 2006/2007 ;))

Why do you want to get rid (sorry if you've already said)? I wouldnt swap a CTR for a vRS to be honest. I would have had a CTR if I could have afforded the fuel bills/insurance.

I think you've answered your own question!!!!

Same reason why I got rid of my Corrado.

Yeah, need to save a bit of cash on fuel really. (House purchase)

Furry muff! ;)

Thanks, much appreciated! I know there's lot of reviews about, but they are usually by people interested or fussy about other things than me... Better ask someone who's actually bought one because they liked it after the test drive and then hear how it performed month after month in real life.

New CTR in '06/'07? Hmm, that might be just the time...

Cheers for the replys :)

Yeah the Civic is a bit of a different beast to the vRS' date=' have test driven a Ibiza Tdi FR and was quite impressed(although changing gear below 8000rpm will take getting used to ;))

Le Car Centre in Finchley is just up the road, ill pop down and see what they can do for me.

(Am I mad, the yellow one is tempting me!!!!)[/quote']

Le Car Centre in Finchley!

You mean N3?

Thats where I live mate! What colour is your CTR and what road is it on?

I curently have a ford ka :( but getting a new car soon 99.9% a Fabia Vrs. :)

It's cheap to run and huge amounts of bang for buk!!!

Have done some research on the best prices around and Drive the deal is the best I've found so far.

There is a good guide on tuning the Fabia Vrs here: http://www.aocf43.dsl.pipex.com/Skodasite/tuning.htm

Hmmm- another 18 month old thread bought out from the archive...
