Testing a new lens - some shots

Featured Replies

What cracking shots!

I've just bought a Nikon D200 which seems to have dropped in price lately. I'll add a long zoom lens when I can. At least I can use my existing Nikon lens with the body.

Excellent Andy, a nice bit of kit, get out there and enjoy it - post them here so we can enjoy.

Awesome pictures Scuff :thumbup::thumbup:

Scuff, first off, fantastic photos. You are obviously pretty knowledgeable, can I pick

your brains? My brother turns 40 later this month, his partner is buying him an

olympus e510 DSLR, good choice?

Also want to myself get him a lense, who would you recommend as a reliable and

reasonable retailer (online or otherwise)

Again, great pics. Cheers:)

I'm going to Norfolk in a couple of weeks time, so will be able to try it out on some of the wildlife. I'll probably pay warehouse express in Norwich a call, end up spending £££'s on gear. Just don't tell my wife!

Hi Lee

Thanks for your comments.

Forgetting the personal preferences of 'feel'. I would rate the Olympus cameras as very good. I have owned the old e10 and e20's. The Olympus brand lenses are excellent but quite expensive.

Se a comprehensive test here

I have had good experiences with warehouse express. Reasonable prices and generally next day delivery.

I hope that helps.

Seconded on Warehouse express. Good place to deal with.

Andy

:) Thanks guys. Only problem I have is that I don't know if his girlfriend

got a 'bundle deal', so don't know what lenses he may already have.

Perhaps a decent tripod may be a better present. Will try your recommended store:thumbup:

Thanks again, for your time.:)

I couldn't resist.... one more 'animal piccy' - my personal 'pet'.

Apologies to those who have seen it before.

OCTAVIA VRS CAMERA BAG

What's the price difference?

18x sounds good , but you'll definitely need to use it with a decent tripod to get the results you want - it's bad enough trying to hold it still at 12

18x is 250ish

just found out the 12x fz8 is on offer @ 149 in comet ... given i dont own a tripod nor really want to lug one round i think the 100quid difference answered my question..... sometimes its hard being a cheap ***.

thus have been down and snapped one up.... will post results but of course they will be not where near the quality on show in this thread.... rockingham this weekend should be a good test..

Hi

Thanks for the comments..... It was a kestrel.

I caught it just coming into land on a fence post. I had been watching it for quite a while and it would land on that post frequently. So I just waited..... and waited.... and waited.... etc.:)

Kestrel was my first thought but then I changed my mind for some reason!

You must have been waiting a fair old while! - I assumed it was tethered so the fcat that it wasn't makes the shot even more impressive! (I could come to hate you very quickly )

You really know what your doing with your kit, those shots are awsome

Brilliant photos

And you know you're in trouble when its the lens that has to attach to the tripod :D

Would love some L lenses - maybe one day.....

I took the VRS camera bag to Woburn this Friday.....

The first shot was taken with the Canon 1DmkIII and a 300mm f2.8L is - and the rest with the Canon 600mm f4L is.

Difficult to get shots without including signs of captivity - The animals were plenty wild enough though !!!!!

Hope you like them:)

Thanks, he is cute. But even at only a year old, he is the size of a very large dog.... and I wouldn't really recommend going and giving him a cuddle

You could teach us all quite a bit about framing and cropping, I would have left in all of the animals heads and lost the impact you are able to deliver.

Great photo's

As with the first pics...............superb!!!!

Favourite of the 2nd lot was the squirrel and loved the Tiger, however there was what I perceived as an animal in captivity look in its face, don't know why, it's just what I saw.

Any beaver shots?

Keep on posting the pics, they are excellent:thumbup:
